I watched the gameplay trailer of Halo Infinite yesterday and I’m just curious about everything we know so far about the story.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, theories, and research on…
- Timeline
- Location
- Villains/Enemies
- Characters
- Overall Plot
Some of these elements seem pretty apparent but other things have me confused.
Quick disclaimer: I know that there has been a highly polarized reaction to what we saw (graphics, game mechanics, etc). I’d love to keep the conversation clear of that particular feud and just focus on what we know about the story of this upcoming game :).

So I may be a horrible fan but I actually am not familiar with the Banished or Zeta halo. What are those??

You got there some things wrong.
The game plays not six months, but one and a half year after H5G.
H5G ends October '58, gameplay demo date was May '60.
Additionally, as far as we know currently the enemies and the main villain are The Banished led by War Chief Escharum,
there was no mention of neither Cortana nor Atriox.

- 28 may 2560, “167 days after we lost” (confirmed in demo)
- Definitely at least part takes place on a halo ring. Probably Zeta Halo. Also there may be parts taking place on other worlds as hinted by 343 devs.
- Brute War Chief Escharum, Cortana, the Harbinger (could be Cortana), the banished, the created, prometheans (most likely), a few rogue covenant pirates (hinted at by 343), the flood (possible)
- Master Chief, Cortana, the pilot, villains listed above, Locke (most likely), rest of Blue Team (likely), rest of Fireteam Osiris (likely), Palmer (likely), Dr Halsey (likely), Captain Lasky (likely), Infinity crew (likely), Spirit of Fire crew (possible)
- Humanity lost a major battle. The banished are allied with the Harbinger, who I think is Cortana. Much of the game will center around battles on the halo ring with chief and other humans against the banished and likely Cortana’s created, prometheans will most likely be in there at some point. Flood could come into play, but it’s hard to tell at this point. The overall plot will most likely center around chief and the rest of the humans battling the banished and the created.

Yes this demo had no mention of Cortana, but both teasers from e3 2018 and 2019 did. Also they have confirmed multiple times that it will close out the reclaimed trilogy so Cortana will definitely be in there.
As for Atriox, it’s hard to say, the demo hinted that he may be dead, but I could still see them surprising us with him making an appearance.

I mean…the last mention of master chief was on a novel (I think it was last blood), I know it happens like a year or more after H5.
And Escharum mention´s Atriox, I saw a post were it was mentioned that Escharum was a commander of Atriox.
I think we will have more than one villian, the open world gets a new bunch of things to look up.

The banished are the villians of Halo Wars 2, is a big army of brutes joined up by years leaded by Atriox.
Zeta halo is better known as the instalation 07 of the forerunner rings, it is the oldest halo ring known. Im pretty sure that the open world that we are gonna have is gonna be Zeta Halo, I wish we could play in all a ring.

To further expand on the significance of this ring, as well as the true backstory of the Forerunners etc, go and read the novels by Greg Bear; Cryptum, Primordium, Silencium.
They’re also available on audible, which gives you one audiobook free as part of their 30 day trial, and you get two if you’re with Anazon Prime and sign up via Prime (I currently have a 30day trial of Prime and did exactly that, so now have two free audio books!).
