I’ve read from several places that Halo 5 relies on the player knowing about the extended universe. What do I need to read/play/watch prior to Halo 5 so I can understand everything. Thanks!
All you basically need to know its who the members of blue team are, what the domain is, and who the characters of osiris are. You can look up the halo wiki for all this information to save you time.

Nope.

You can probably go into H5 without knowing anything, and still be distasteful of the plot as it follows the same path of many 80s/90s sci-fi films that followed the plot of a very successful series of films.
Generally, you only need basic knowledge of Blue Team, maybe Locke, Sanghelios and the Arbiter, Forerunners, and the Domain.

and play Halo 5.
Uh, basically, play all of the games, read all of the books, and read everything in Halopedia. That for sure is the minimum to understand the story, if you can call it one, of Halo 5.
