Look. I can not stand Halo 4. There isn’t anything about it I can say that hasn’t already been said. It’s destroyed the community.
That aside, why don’t people like Reach?
I understand some complaints like the addition of the DMR. (Although in retrospect it wasn’t nearly as much of a problem in Reach as it is in 4)But what about the game was bad?
The campaign was good, and the multiplayer was great. There were a good variety of small enclosed maps and large open ones. (4’s maps are just claustrophobic and terrible) The community was as strong as ever mainly due to the introduction of forge world and we had great custom game options for customs and firefight. Forgers were making amazing maps constantly wowing us with new things to do. Despite some faults in the core multiplayer (which still in no way hurt it to the point where I still did not love it) there were endless things to do. I’ve never had more fun in any other Halo Game.
You see now the community is dead. There are very few forgers still active and custom game types suck. I used to be able to search for a map of anything and get multiple good maps. Now I’m lucky if I get one half decent result. With core multiplayer now totally destroyed what is there to do?
I actually found a custom game type and map that looked amazing. A battlefront 2 space battle remake with the Tantive IV and a star destroyer. The game type was made using dominion. But guess what? I have no one to play it with.
I’d play Reach but no one plays reach because they either just want to play the inferior new game even though they hate it or they don’t play Halo anymore.
> halo4 is better then reach which isnt saying much
Ok why? I wholeheartedly disagree. Halo Reach is absolutely my favorite of all of the Halo games (Not to say it is the most well made or innovative, I just enjoyed it the most.) while Halo 4 is a steaming pile of -Yoink-.
> One thing i hate about them both:

> nowadays, if a gunning team gets into a warthog, they just posted a “FREE DOUBLE KILL, RIGHT HERE” sign above them
Really? I agree with that about Halo 4. Vehicles are irrelevant and boring. In reach I thought they were great. The best was on open custom forge world maps. When there’s a big team game going on and it’s chaos. A bunch of firey falcon parts falling from the sky around you, diving to avoid them and wraith shots, crazy driving in mongooses and warthogs full of people, needing your whole team to band together to take out a tank/banshee. That was the best.
But since Halo 4 is so claustrophobic there’s none of this.
Halo Reach gave the Halo series access to rechargeable Armor Abilities that drastically changed the pace and style of combat. While in many high leveled games in Halo 3 would consist of solid team pushes, Halo Reach allowed entire teams to basically walk into rooms full of enemies and then Armor Lock, allowing their friends to clean up the weakened players. Then came Jetpacks, which reduced many open maps to base standoffs between Snipers and caused many boring 10 kill games. (as in there were only 10 kills in the game.)
Halo 4 didn’t do much to change that. One could argue that through the introduction of personal ordinance, they exacerbated the problem by allowing campers to gain powerful weapons without moving from their positions or even getting kills. There are also many irritating features such as the lack of flag drop, the ability to throw Oddballs and other assorted problems and you have a game that many would consider to be on par, if not below Halo Reach.
Reach’s campaign was boring and annoying. If I had to pick a favorite part of the campaign, it would be flying the Saber. If I had to pick a favorite level, I couldn’t because they’re all repetitive. That said, I really enjoyed seeing my Spartan in the cutscenes, but the plot wasn’t as good as the other games and it just wasn’t as fun.
AAs were unbalanced.
Vehicles were paper.
Custom games lost some great options (gained others, but lost some key features).
Movement Speed and jump height were comparable to that of a snail.
The DMR was and continues to be an attrocious weapon that absolutely destroys the Halo sandbox as we know it. It simply has too much range.
The color palatte was boring and just looked dumb. Not Halo at all.
Honestly, there’s not a single thing about Reach that makes me want to play it ever again.
Halo 4, not so much. It doesn’t have the same life to it. It has no moments where i’m like, ‘Woah’.
Every Halo had that moment.
Ce: Flood intro. Johnson/Elite Hug. Ending. Beginning.
Halo 2: Arbiter mark of shame. Bomb jump. Gravemind intro. Cortana and Gravemind end. Battle of the High Charity. Arrival of Fleet over Regrets location. (Probably more, but I don’t remember too much of it at the moment.)
Halo 3: Elite Fleet making fun of the Brutes. Johnson and Arbiter giving weapons to other’s species. (Work together you pansies.) The beginning crash and MC still being alive.
Halo Reach: First and foremost, Kat’s death. That was good execution. When I was playing through again at a friends house, had everyone just go, “WOAH” and stop what they were doing. (Even if character death by that point was becoming expected since it was later half of game.) Carter’s last moments. NOBLE 6 GOING OUT LIKE A CHAMP! First encounter with Zealot Elites. (I also loved the guitar in that moment.)
Halo ODST: Dropping in. (Probably more, but again, don’t remember it that much.)
Halo Wars: The very opening talking about the war was good. (Showed both sides with good and bad times.) I would say the ending, but I don’t remember any elites with a gun.
The Reach Campaign was far superior to the boring, turgid grind that was H4, but both lacked the intensity and atmosphere of ODST (short though it was).
As for multiplayer, I find H4’s to be marginally better than Reach’s - again, though, both are poor when compared to the CE Anniversary.
I quite liked reach,Halo 4? Not so much, I still play because I want to give it sometime before I decide to go cold turkey or start enjoying it. Imo instant re-spawns should never be in a Halo game and the ordinance drop is a cool idea, but the power weapons dropped should be limitied I.E. no rockets, fuel rod, incineration cannon and binary rifle. All those weapons should be map drop only so that the teams have to actually fight for control of them, plus it will cut down on the entire enemy team all toting rockets at the same time. Which seems to happen a lot.
Two things make me hate 4. For one, they moved away from everything that defined Halo and changed the type of shooter it was.
Two, they removed a crazy amount of features and content. A CRAZY amount. Countless classic gametypes (Race, Single Flag, Assault, VIP, Invasion, Infection, Headhunter, Stockpile and Territories) , search options, theater support for Campaign/Spartan Ops, Armor Effects, Campaign Scoring, Firefight, etc.
I have no problems with Reach but in Halo 4 I DON’T LIKE:
The overall amount 343i is ignoring the Flood playlist
The overall amount 343i is ignoring the community and custom things
No Covey maps or palettes for it
DMR v BR
No UNSC flying vehicles
No desert themed maps (specifically for forging)
No maps on a Halo installation I miss playing on a halo
Could do more maps and another DLC, like the surprise Forge World release yesterday
I really don’t dislike Reach that much, some of the AAs get annoying at times but other times people find clever ways to use them. Compare that to 4, than game is not Halo and got rid of the skill gap all together.
