WHAT DID THEY DO TO HALO 3 MATCHMAKING?

Had a bit of nostalgia for Halo 3 so I decided to go back and play it. Been trying to get in a match with this broken matchmaking for well over an hour now. My internet speed is 25mbps with a 6ms ping. My NAT is set to open. I am playing using the Halo 3 multiplayer disc that came with ODST. What happens is I’ll get into the game lobby, where everyone is talking. The match will be loading then in about 20 seconds I just appear back at the matchmaking selection menu. No error messages or anything. How could they do this to one of my all time favorite games? Why 343i WHY? Is it because you didn’t make it and it is better than Halo 4 (Halo 4 is still a decent game though)?

I’m not sure what you’re saying “this” is but 343 hasn’t really done anything to Halo 3 at all. Everything is still the same as when Bungie had control.

If you’re dropping out of games it’s likely a network incompatibility somewhere.

Certainly not a network incompatability. This is the only game that does this. Meaning there is something wrong with the game. If it was happening to other games then it would likely be a network incompatability but that is not the case when it is just the one game.

On top of that like i said, I get into a game. I get into the game lobby where all the players are selected and everyone is talking. The loading bar moves and fills to about a fifth, then it resets and very slowly fills about half way then the screen just goes back to the matchmaking menu where you select which game mode you want to play without any error messages. Usually if it is a networking issue it will say “restarting Search” but it doesn’t do that.

The game is fine on my end. Takes a little longer that it used to to find games, but I find them just fine, and have barely any connection problems. I’ve never had the problem you’re describing, so I’m not sure how to fix it.

I use an H3 disc to get to MM and have no problems at all.
However, after reading your post I tried my ODST Multiplayer disc and…
Nada, I can’t even get a connection.
Still, that might just be because of the disc coz it used to work ok.

My Mythic disc works just fine. It’s what I use to play Halo 3 MM as a whole.

One day not long time ago the servers where down for Halo 3. That hasn’t happened as far as I know since Bungie had them.

The servers went down quite a few times when Bungie controlled Halo 3 matchmaking. It just that it happened sporadically over the space of 3 years that it wasn’t noticeable. But it did happen. 343 were probably doing a bit of routine checking to make sure things were still ok. Its the same with any game really, servers need to be temporarily taken offline for some maintenance or if there is a problem. Its usually only for a short time and the game is up and running again

op i beleive your exagerating sir, ive been playing and i find games fast in lone wolves team slayer, snipes, social and big team

I’ve had this error plenty of times before, and it happened on odd occasions, but it was always caused by the same problem, which was the disc. In halo 3, I’m almost certain the only reason it could kick you from matchmaking at that point (after searching), was if you failed to load a map. Anyone whose had a scratched copy of the game knows that if some maps (or all maps) don’t load, it’ll let you search MM, but when the map attempts to load, it will kick you without notice or warning. There’s a HUGE range of things that could be “wrong” with your ODST disc, believe it or not, one of which of course would be that it’s scratched, so check that first. As far as other reasons, there are too many to mention, so I would just try loading a custom match first, and checking all the maps to see if they work.
