We all know about the Terminals in Halo 3, between Medicant Bias and 343 Guilty Spark but the last terminal was directed at Johnn 117 aka Master Chief, himself…
MB said that he regrets what he did and he would repay for his wronging by helping Master Chief out…but what did he do exactly? Did he slow down Halo’s activation timer? Did he open doors or something?
It’s something that has been bugging me for a while and I just want to know what he did; is there an official explanation yet?

He blew up the Maginot Sphere (something that protected the Forerunner’s inner colonies) and force the Forerunners to rush the Halo Array project.

That’s what he did BEFORE the Human-Covenant war and all that; I’m talking about when he went to the Ark with the Prophet of Truth and talked to Master Chief directly. He said he would help him; I always thought he was opening doors or something. Helping Cortana without her noticing…

Ah crap, you’re right, I read that wrong. In that case, I have NO clue.
Considering Mendicant Bias was constructed and programmed to combat the Flood, I suspect that he helped fight against the Flood on the Ark as Master Chief made his way through.
Maybe I misunderstood your question, but the player never directly meets Mendicant Bias in the games (as far as I know). We only hear of him or “interact” with him through the terminals.
To answer your question, though:
Mendicant Bias was programmed to organize the Forerunner defense against the Flood. However, he ended up coming to believe the Flood was the next stage in evolution for the Forerunner and sided with them. He then went about killing Forerunner. Now this is all a very brief summary.
I know you said this is what happened “before” the Human-Covenant war, but that’s what MB is referencing in the terminals.

No; my question was “what did he do to help Master chief”. He directly talks to master chief through the terminal in the last mission if you got all the previous terminals in a row. He says he will help you for doing what he did to the Forerunners but it’s never explained WHAT he does exactly.

Theory: He kept the portal open long enough so they could escape, then he went into Cortana and the portal closed halfway.

Oh, I’m sorry. My brain is mush today. erickyboo provides some insight, but the fact remains that I don’t think it’s ever been spelled out specifically.

He also left some secret messages in two songs in seperate games.

That would make sense that Cortana was influenced by a Forerunner A.I. since Halsey was feeding “knowledge” to a split off part of her when Noble showed up in Halo Reach. It’s also why the “random” jump the PoA made from Reach shot them straight to Installation 04. Anyway, it seems MB played an important role during the Halo games as the “man” behind the curtain. How he helped is uncertain, but we know he didn’t like Guilty Spark and refused him entry to a terminal, plus he recognized the Chief as a Reclaimer… so he hasn’t gone off the deep end of Rampancy. Ok, since Cortana was seemingly going rampant in Halo 3, maybe the older/more stable A.I. structure of MB helped her stay together… in order to help the Chief.
Mendicant Bias already went rampant when he betrayed the Forerunners and defected to the Flood. Self-induced rampancy, in fact. He and Cortana are the only two A.I. to come back from rampancy, becoming “metasable”. It’s described as the stage when an A.I. becomes a true “person”.
Mendicant Bias probably felt regret over what he did and tried to redeem himself by helping Master Chief. Whether or not Cortana has become truely metasasized, she shows clear indications of having human emotion (partly due to the Gravemind’s probing), love, anger, frustration, sadness, etc…

Yeah… I remember but hm my theory dosen’t fit that well anymore. For a few days I had tought that it was Mendicant’s symbol so I tought he might have saved himself into Cortana. But why would Adjutant Reflex be doing there?
I think I’ll start a thread to talk about Cortana, Iris, AdjutantReflex, Mendicant Bias, and how they all connect a little later today. This is getting off topic.
This is what Medicant Bias says in the last terminal
"You don’t know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you’re here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another? You’re going to say I’m making a habit of turning on my masters. But the one that destroyed me long ago, in the upper atmosphere of a world far distant from here, was an implement far cruder than I. My weakness was capacity - unintentional though it was! - to choose the Flood. A mistake my makers would not soon forgive. But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer.
Atonement.
And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I’m not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall be my example."
Medicant said “The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe.” Keep the path stable? This sounds like the part when the chief drives the warthog to the frigate.
I got all the information above from Ascendent Justice, they have a really good in-depth analysis of the terminals. They don’t update the site anymore, but they’ve been hired by 343 industries
Yeah, that’s a damn good site, that’s where I studied the Terminals in detail as well. Ya know, that last entry reminded me of the name of the one chapter in Halo CE, after the Library… The Two Betrayals. I wonder if that’s a reference to MB, cause there’s only one betrayal there, the one by Guilty Spark.
