What did Halo 5 do well?

Ok, I’m getting sick of all the complaining. A brief scroll over the forum topics and all I see are complaints. My only complaint at the moment is that Amazon isn’t getting me the game that I preordered back in August until next Thursday :frowning:
What do you like about Halo 5? If something can be improved, what is it? Please keep any criticism constructive and to a minimum, and PLEASE no spoilers. Again, I won’t be getting the game until next Thursday.

Warzone, everything else is pretty meh.

The gameplay mechanics.

Does that include the new Spartan abilities? I liked what I saw in Beta, but they definitely could have been improved upon. From what I’ve seen in gameplay videos, all the problems I had seemed to be fixed.

Movement, sprint, weapon sandbox, balance, story, and from the looks of it forge.

I am just going to list what I like and dislike

LIKE

  • Art Design (not graphics but general design) Unlike most people I actually really like the new weapon and vehicle designs especially the Phantom and Ghost, they look like a highly evolved version of the old models and don’t feel out of place to me, I also love a lot of the campaign level design and Sanghelios looked fantastic. I also really like the new Prometheans, I love how they look and feel so much more bulky and metallic when you hit them! the moment I ran up to a Knight and tried to assassinate him and just got a huge CLUNK and only had him to turn round and scatter shot me was fantastic. - Soundtrack + SFX I Love the soundtrack and honestly it has turned out to be probably my favourite OST from Halo yet, the mix of old and new really ties in well with the vibe of the game and at some parts of the campaign just feels right, I particularly love how they mixed the old Halo theme with a modern SciFi futuristic vibe. I have been and will continue to listen to it for ages. The sound effects are also pretty nice, some of them I am not big on but things like the sound of the a Sniper hitting you it really makes you feel like a truck has just drove straight into your face. The audio in this game brought back that feeling of awe that the original CE brought me back in 2001. - Warzone Maps Although warzone has taken a hit graphically I think the art direction is lovely, I really think they got the setting just right, sadly I cannot say the same for arena maps but I will get to that later. I love how each warzone map has a unique environment like snowy mountain or tropic island sort of vibe, I actually have been killed a few times because I was sort of standing looking at particular points of the map checking out the terrain. - Gun Balance + Gunplay I originally was unimpressed with Halo 5 but the I took my time to try each weapon out and found that no weapon is useless! this is probably the first time in a Halo game that I feel I can use any weapon without feeling handicapped, I particularly love how even things like the Suppressor and Storm rifle that once had no use are now although no BR are actually usable! I also love the rework to nades, Frags bounce really well and are very controllable and the new Splinter nade is fantastic in close quarters fights. - Spartan Abilities During the Beta I was absolutely furious about the implementation of yet another set of abilities, the very thought of it enraged me but I have now learned to love them, the way thrusters let you have more control over your movement is really nice and makes for very interesting 1v1 scenarios, I love having a pistol fight with someone while we are both zipping about trying to out manoeuvre each other. I still don’t care for sprint but because of warzone I can see how it helps an it really isn’t as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Clamber is nice for reaching those far jumps and again doesn’t cause any harm being there I don’t see any problems with it. Ground pound was a bit of a worry to me but I have seen almost nobody use it practically I used it a few times in campaign and once or twice in arena but most people don’t seem to risk floating for a prolonged time in case of being shot down. - Smart Scope This was the biggest worry to me of all of Halo 5, I really really hated the idea of implementing an ADS system into Halo but as I have used it and got used to Halo 5 I really don’t care at all about it any more it doesn’t effect the game that much and really it kind of looks cool the way the HUD rearranged to fit the zoomed functionality. - Arena + AR/Pistol Starts I have found myself really enjoying everything about arena, I know ranks are a little buggy at the minute and I know there is a lack of gamemodes but I am having fun and the new starting loadout is actually very refreshing. I know people are crying NERF but really I hope they don’t I like everything where it is and if you nerf the pistol it will become useless again and to be honest you can easily out shoot a pistol user already. - REQ System I actually really like the idea of the REQ system, it excites me to open up new packs and really I like how you can spawn with whatever you want in warzone but still have to make a proper decision of it. again people screaming about how it is pay-2-win when really I have played a few matches without even use a REQ card! you can simple scavenge weapons and vehicles of the people you kill! I wonder if they will add in any more game modes to warzone in the future? - Return of skulls + Collectables When Halo 4 came out I was so disappointed that you couldn’t find skulls in the levels, I always loved hunting for the skulls and seeing how many I get on my first run and now that they are back ( a little bit tiny this time) I can go hunt them down all over again. The new 117 intel files also make me want to replay the campaign so I can find and listen to all the intel files, I have currently done 4 missions worth of intel files and still going strong. - New Forge Yes I know it isn’t out yet but it looks great, nuff said. - Exuberant Witness!!!

DISLIKE

  • New Enemy Voices I hate what they did to the Grunts and Jackals in campaign, the new voices sound childish and down right generic, it really was a mood killer when I first heard a grunt speak and I really with they had left them alone. the same goes for the new Promethean soldiers they say really boring and weird lines that just feel out of place. - Animation Problems + Graphical Consistency In Halo 5 I noticed an awful amount of texture and object pop in during the campaign, this often breaks imersion and is extremely noticeable I really think 343I pushed the Xbox one a little too hard, Arena looks fine but when you load up warzone you notice that a lot of textures have suffered to make the game run smooth (don’t get me wrong I would rather smooth game-play over graphical wonderment) The lack of real anisotropic filtering and poor light-mapping makes this all the more apparent and the lack of shadows on foliage makes it down right distracting. I am also pretty sure the Spartan armour textures are vastly reduced in warzone. - Campaign Story + Missions (Spoiler Free) I was a bit disappointed with the general story in campaign but I wont go into detail as not to spoil it for people, I do however want to address the team AI and enemies. I found that most of the mission consisted of room clearing and had very few scripted events like in previous games, things like in Halo 3 where you go round a corner and a Brute is holding a marine by the throat or where an elite might be slicing down flood really added to the old games vibe but in Halo 5 I felt a distinct lack of that but I might just not have looked hard enough. I found a lot of the game was just about mowing down room after room and didn’t have many big moments like scarab battles. - Lobbies I don’t really like how the pre game lobby doesn’t allow names to bee seen or even to view profiles, it really makes me wonder why the stance option even exists in the first place. - Lack of Features Where is random weapons setting in custom games? campaign scoring and timer? Even the lack of gametypes is a little worrying for me, I really hope they add these features in soon enough or at least when forge launches, I would hate to see the game die due to these problems. - Armour customization + no REQ variants in custom games

and I would love to write more but I don’t really have time XD

Campaign is awesome in my opinion despite what others say. MP is the best!

Thank you for your comments! Aside from critic reviews, this is probably the most articulated review I’ve seen, and addresses both the pros and the cons in a positive, inflammatory, and non-whiney way. And a lot of what you said is what I have felt from watching videos. It’s good to hear it from a fan and not a critic though. Honestly, it seems most the problems that I had with Halo 4 are in the process of or have been resolved with Halo 5, which was my hope. I didn’t inherently dislike Halo 4, I just felt a lot of the new implementations by 343i needed more work, and hoped they would learn from their mistakes with Halo 5.
I’ve been looking forward to this game for quite a while now, and am ITCHING to play. I’m almost glad Amazon delayed the shipment, as I it is finals week this week, and if I had the game I would be spending all of my time on Halo and no time studying or writing my papers. XD.
