A lot of people look at threads as a good way to put in requests to have things changed, like asking for old gametypes back or more features to the ones we have. I’m sure these threads will get read, at least briefly, so why not have a thread to say what we liked best about the last Halo and instead of requesting change, hope for a feature to stay.

Here goes mine; my favourite thing about the last Halo game was the implementation of in-built sprint. Even though a lot of people find retreat frustrating, it still opens up tons of gameplay options in offensive strikes or setting traps. The feature I’d want most to stay in the next Halo is definitely sprint.

What feature would you want to keep?

Good post, I would definitely want to have sprint kept in halo as well.

JiP: flawed implementation; great intentions and potential

Truthfully there’s not a whole lot else that has been added since Reach that I would keep without SIGNIFICANTLY changing it.

We need the Falcon back! It annoys me, to witness an enemy Banshee getting Killing Sprees in ten seconds, while my teammates are launching rocket launcher missiles, and the Banshee just loops around and flies away, almost untouched. In Halo 4, the only air vehicle in War Games, is the Banshee. One player can get 15 opponents killed before dying (if not equipped with the Survivor enchantment). With a Falcon, players in Halo Reach matchmaking, needed cooperation to take down an enemy. The pilot has to give a good angle for the gunners, while attempting to evade ground resistance by Scorpions, Rocket Warthogs, and others. With the Banshee, the pilot can get many kills before a lucky plasma grenade stuck. With the Falcon, creating effective counters and offensives, require teamwork. This isn’t Call of Duty (console), where people don’t use cooperation at all, but this is Halo, where players need to strategies to win. Yes, the Banshee should be kept, but more vulnerable and less health (in multiplayer).

Guest having the same stuff unlocked as the main player.

We need a lot of things from the past halo games. I personally think that halo 4 was good. yes they mucked up a few things in multiplayer, but it wasn’t a total fudge up. the campaign was just amazing, me and my friends were amazed.
f.y.i: iv played halo from halo on the original Xbox. just if anyone thinks im new to the franchise.

> Guest having the same stuff unlocked as the main player.

That is available just now in halo 4. Iv seen a rank one with wetwork armour on while signed in as a guest.

I understand that this thread is about features we would like to see them keep in Halo 5, but please allow me to list some things I genuinely love about what they have done.

  • Being able to throw and catch the oddball
  • The Prometheans (I might be alone on that one)
  • The graphics
  • The voice acting
  • The artwork
  • Having 3 unique Forge environments
  • The Master Chief’s armor
  • Many of the sound effects
  • Forward Unto Dawn (one of the best things to happen to Halo IMO)
  • The music
  • Exile, Meltdown, Wreckage and Daybreak
  • The Castle map pack
  • Gravity volumes
  • The search function
  • Getting rid of Armor lock
  • Bringing back the BR
  • The awesome trailers such as the Scanned trailer
  • The last few missions of Spartan Ops
  • Having a soundtrack remix contest before the game released
  • Lightning flag (so awesome)
  • Midnight (one of my favourite Halo missions of all time)
  • The CG cutscenes, especially Epilogue and Prologue
  • The Broadsword and the Mammoth
  • Putting Never Forget at the end of Halo 4 (I might have cried if my brothers weren’t in the room)
  • Giving us Forge Island for free
  • Requiem
  • The green screen in Forge Island
  • The menu music (I don’t understand the hate)
  • The design of Cortana, and I’m talking about her face before you judge
  • The Halo 4 box art

That’s just touching the surface.

As for new gameplay features that I would like them to keep with halo 5, the only thing I can think of right now is the ability to throw and catch the Oddball.

It’s a shame that there are so many things I love that 343 have done, yet so few of them are gameplay related.
My list should show that I am not against everything 343, I am simply against the core gameplay experience being replaced for the sake of “modernising” Halo.

There I edited things out that I didn’t like

The pacing of the stormy was great. Unlike Halo 3 and Reach, there were few if any missions that were irrelevant to the story (Halo 3’s plot only really kicked off half way into the game, and Reach only delved into a progressing plot in its second-to-last mission.

I love the Crawlers. Headshotting them is extremely satisfying, and I love their look. Hopefully we’ll get some new Promethean forms as awesome as they are.

Dominion is amazing. Lockdown is less exiting though and I hate how often it appears in voting options (and how often people pick it, for that matter). I also really like Ricochet.

Forge had many good ideas too, but had slightly lacking execution.

The Spartan Ops cut-scenes were nothing short of a masterpiece IMO. Great, episodic (short :frowning: ) storytelling. Hopefully the Live Action series will live up to that.

Weapon Markers, for new players its easier to understand which weapons are on the map.

The campaign was good and it lived up to halo’s story
Spartan ops Season 6-10 was also good.
And the last one is the forge map Impact. (I love making space maps)

But I was disappointent with Multiplayer.
It didn’t live up to Halo 3 and Reach for me.
Mostly because of the imbalance gameplay and lack of gametypes.

I’ll weigh in on some multiplayer things:

  1. The ability to choose (within reason) your starting weapon

  2. The return of the Battle Rifle/Carbine

  3. Sprint (I think it works!)

  4. An assault rifle that is actually competitive

  5. The mantis (my favorite vehicle from any halo, with the possible exception of the hornet)

  6. The railgun (awesome)

  7. Sticky detonator (also cool)

  8. The shotgun’s power boost

  9. Hitmarkers (good for when you have a poor connection!)

  10. The +10 that appears when you kill someone. The tiny “you killed so-and-so” that used to appear in the corner is kinda hard to see if you’re in a heated battle.

  11. The mantis (cannot overemphasize)

  12. Slightly quicker kill times

  13. The binary rifle. Astonishingly cool gun, pretty well balanced.

…Nothing else comes to mind.

  • 4sk BR
  • Fast pace of the game in general
  • Good campaign, graphics, innovative Spartan Ops
  • got rid of the whole “AR starts or BR starts?” dilemma by introducing loadouts and therefore forcing a good weapon balance
  • Very varied sandbox and cool new weapons that fill all sorts of niches
  • BTB is more action-packed than previous games (though not necessarily more fun)
  • The introduction of Join In Progress… The way it works in Throwdown, at least. (only join for pre-game quitters. And still punish quitters.)
  • Good publicity and tournaments that involve the entire community.
  • Better and faster Forge with dynamic lighting, and the implementation of good community maps into matchmaking.
  • Introduction of Hitmarkers
  • Cool swaying of the HUD for better immersion
    -…

343i did A LOT of good things and this is actually a good game now, except that it all came a bit late in my opinion. Too late for most.

The ONLY thing I think they did right in the entire game is dynamic lighting in forge.

I thought they did a brilliant job on the campaign.

Chief and Cortana.

Thanks for all the input guys! I agree with Jazzii Man, PWNBOT9000 and Daitor. Some good detail there and I’m glad that there’s more demand to keep the new features and the faster gameplay than I originally thought.

Two things I really liked were the characters in the campaign. I felt halo 1 and 3 (never played 2) lacked any real characters, taking away a lot of tension. In halo 4, Chief and Cortana became more than just basic plot devices made up of one liners. They were characters that had emotions, goals, and flaws. This made the campaign my favorite from a story standpoint. The second thing were some of the new game-types. Extraction is a ton of fun, dominion is epic, and regicide is pretty great too.
I liked a great deal more than this, but those are the things that stood out to me.

Sprint and loadouts minus boltshot. I would say the absence of quit ban but apparently Halo 4 still has it.
