What (former) Covenant race, that aren’t confirmed to be in Halo 5 yet, would you love to see in some capacity in Halo 5 Guardians? This doesn’t necessarily mean as an enemy unit you can fight in-game, but could also be as a character you meet as Locke or Chief.
If you’ve never heard of the Yonhet, they’re a race that was part of the Covenant Fringe. The Covenant fringe was basically a group of races that weren’t completely integrated in the Covenant yet. They weren’t active in actual combat during the human-covenant war, but they did provide other ‘services’ to the Covenant cause.
The Yonhet would be a very interesting species to see in-game. They are only really with the covenant because the forerunner studies. With the fall of the covenant I wouldn’t be surprised if they go rogue and possibly be a new faction.
My opinion for the poll is not officially Covenant species or another… perhaps add an option, “Other, please explain in thread.” in the poll.
I for one would love all the species of the Covenant, however with a different iteration, to that of their former empire…
San 'Shyuum - Jiralhanae - Sangheili - Mgalekgolo - Kig-Yar
Ruuhtian - T’voaon - Ibie’shan - Yanme’e - Unggoy - Huragok - YonhetEach species would have their own personality, depicted through their nature, appearance, interactions with environments and other characters…
Keep in mind there are two San Shyuum. Stoics and Reformists. The Reformists made the Covenant and lived on High Charity while the Stoics live on the San Shyuum homeworld (Beautiful jungle Janjar Qom). The Stoics had NOTHING to do with the Covenant and do not even know what the Covenant is, nor do they care about the Covenant.
The Reformist San Shyum (Truth, Regret, Mercy, and ministers), have lost the Human-Covenant war and have either been killed or gone into hiding. There species (the Reformists not the Stoics) is now endangered as probaly less than 10 remain alive. Zo is a reformist, but he is probably human friendly as he is BFF’s with the Sanghelli.
While the Reformist San Shyuum are borderline extinct, the Stoic San Shyuum are still great in population… BUT
They would never join the Covenant Remnant as since the creation of the Covenant they had absolutely nothing to do with the Covenant and didn’t really like it as it was created by the Reformist San Shyuum, their enemies.
The Stoics would probably not attack man kind as they care little for humans, covenant, what have you as they had been absent from the Human Covenant war, or anything Covenant related.
So it would not make sense for the San Shyuum to return. Except for maybe Zo who is friendly to the Elites.
Brutes, because of their unique weapons and vehicles, and also just being a cool species.
Second choice would be Skirmishers, cause I’m apparently one of the few people who actually thought they were fun to fight, and they’re cool-looking.
The Drones third. Reach made Drones much more entertaining to fight, and even then, they were barely even in that game (3 encounters in the Campaign, none in Firefight).
The Prophets would be cool from a lore/story perspective, but not really much in terms of gameplay.
Engineers were a hassle in ODST, and a minor inconvenience in Reach. I’m not all that interested in them.
The Yonhet. . . Are just boring and aesthetically unappealing. I wouldn’t mind if they never showed up in the games.
The Jiralhanae, really interesting species. I want to see what’s going on with them as we haven’t heard since many issues ago in Escalation. I do wonder how many San 'Shyuum are still alive.
I would love to see Skirmishers return. I had an idea how they were going to fight before Reach and their end result blew me out of the water. At the same time, I’m certain there’s more they can do.
For instance, a group of 4 or 5 Skirmishers in certain instances forsake evading and proceed to charge the player straight on firing off their weaponry like a trigger-happy cowboy. Rushing your position and hunting you down adamantly should you try to take cover or fall back.
the Yonhet seem interesting in terms of story, but I despise that they look like a typical Star Trek race. I get it, humans, forerunners, and probably them too all descend from Precursors, but still look really weak to me.

According to Halopedia, there’s less than a 1000 left and they all dissapeared mysteriously.
> With their population at dangerously low levels following the loss of High Charity, and now having to contend with the wrath of their former guardians, the San’Shyuum gave their new Jiralhanae protectors access to all the technology they had. Immediately following the collapse of the Covenant and the end of the Human-Covenant War, however, the remaining San’Shyuum apparently vanished. The Sangheili had heard rumors that the San’Shyuum went on the Great Journey, but most disregarded them. As this coincided with the disappearance of most Huragok, others believed that the San’Shyuum may have taken the Huragok with them when they fled. By 2558, limited numbers of San’Shyuum continued to be encountered within the Unified Earth Government’s and the former Covenant’s sphere of influence in the galaxy.
C’mon people! You really want the Brutes? They are really generic and basically the same as Elites (gameplay wise). I want the Drones! How awesome would it be to shoulder charge into a swarm of the 'buggers?
