What could this ancient evil be?

Most people suspect that it is the Forerunners, but after reading the description about how this evil wants vengeance, I’ve come up with two different theories:

They are the Precursurs. This would make since because they would want vengeance on the Forerunners, and at the end of the demo, Chief gets knocked out, probably so they could take him to the Didact or something like that.

The other theory is that this ancient evil could possibly be some species that has never been mentioned, or maybe has been hinted at in the books.

I’d like to hear what some other people are saying about it.

It’s the Didact, an ancient Forerunner badass. In a terminal in Anniversary it’s revealed that since Chief blew up Halo, it awoken the Didact from stasis and made him very angry. Watch Halo Origins to learn who he is. He’e whose voice and symbol you see at the end of the most recent Halo trailer. You see his symbol in terminals in Halo 3 as well.

They will most likely see past that if they have a common enemy

Forerunner stuff is blue and the crawlers, Knights and Watchers were red in the demo, and i have the feeling that they work for the ancient evil.

Maybe. It wouldn’t be Halo without Flood, and it’s safe to say they aren’t all dead. But still, he isn’t happy about Chief destroying one of his toys.

You know, personally I have a hard time imagining the Forerunners as the ancient evil because wasn’t the Halo Array their way of saving the galaxy from the flood.

> Forerunner stuff is blue and the crawlers, Knights and Watchers were red in the demo, and i have the feeling that they work for the ancient evil.

Wrong. They are Promethean robots. Prometheans are badass Forerunner commandos. The Didact is a Forerunner Promethean.

If by save you mean kill all life then yes.

You are likely right about it being Precursors although it is mere speculation if they will make an appearance ( hope they do , wanna see what these mother fu… bad guys look like ).

Plus the Didact hasn’t held a grudge against Humanity , even when the Human-Forerunner conflict killed his children. If anything I think the Didact wants to warn Chief about a thread.

Remember back in CEA ?The covies didn’t know about the flood , Spark could’ve warned them had he known they were trying to access the research facility. This time round Chief will learn about this ancient evil , just remember Forerunners believed in the Mantle ( protecting all life ) so it would make no sense for them to wage war on Humanity again even though they blew up a Halo , they had good reasoning behind it.

But it wasn’t his Toy , it was Fabers , the Master Builders and those 2 didn’t like sharing.

They are PROMETHEANS. FORERUNNER WEAPONS. Geez, 343 already confirmed this.

> They are PROMETHEANS. FORERUNNER WEAPONS. Geez, 343 already confirmed this.

if by “they” you mean the enemies encountered in the E3 demo: yes, you are right.
but does this mean that the forerunners are the ancient evil: nope.

OK granted in a warped and twisted way but they still had some things that went around and put all life forms back on their home planets to re-evolve. (I think)

How do you explain the Didact, who controls these enemies, and is confirmed to be relaly mad about Chief destroying Halo.

> They are PROMETHEANS. FORERUNNER WEAPONS. Geez, 343 already confirmed this.

And I didn’t know that the Crawler , Promethean Knights and Watchers were all Forerunner made already ?Sigh

Look from some other post’s I’ve made , I’ve tried to do quite abit of research on Forerunners because I like to know alot about them.

Cortana said they were a defence AI , my guess is that the covies triggered their response because Forerunners have no reason ( this includes the Didact who has more reason than any other Forerunner after losing his wife this has not been confirmed if shes dead but he thinks she is and all of his children dying in the ancient Human-Forerunner war ) to attack humanity.

Something has corrupted the AI’s and a similar thing happened on installation 07 back before the Array was fired , that had Precursor influence.

So yes , I already knew that the AI’s were Forerunner made , it does not mean that they are being controlled by them.

It also does not mean that the Forerunners , sorry , the Didact is controlling them.Btw thanks :).

WRONG.It was confirmed that the Didact was p***ed at something we don’t know if it was because he destroyed a Halo or because his wife has ‘died’ but this does not mean that he is controlling the AI’s that attack MC.

> You know, personally I have a hard time imagining the Forerunners as the ancient evil because wasn’t the Halo Array their way of saving the galaxy from the flood.

The Humans and Forerunners had a war that sent humans back to the stone age.

> How do you explain the Didact, who controls these enemies, and is confirmed to be relaly mad about Chief destroying Halo.

that is not true, no terminal ever mentions the didact waking up.

However, Guilty Spark implies (in the 10th CEA terminal) that the Didact would turn on humanity if the Librarian wasn’t around to “temper his rage”.
Guilty Spark-2, in Primordium, says that between the Didact and humanity, there’s “combat eternal” and again: only the Librarian can solve that conflict peacefully.
the librarian most likely isn’t around when MC/Infinity arrive at Requiem, but the Didact is. hence he kicks some UNSC -Yoink-, pretty hard.

i do hope that the Precursors are involved (and i take the upside down symbol in the trailer as a hint), but they are not necessary for the Didact to turn on us.
