now ive played a few betas, most maybe say a month or two before the release of a game. but halo 5 guardians beta is A YEAR before the game, thats incredible. there could be huge changes made to the game. whereas in most games a disliked feature in a beta would probably still be there come launch due to time issues (the betas being more of a bug tester) this beta has the potential to really change the final game with feed back. but the question is, would 343? say sprint is back, or the new spartan abilities are just awful (i think they look really cool but that remains to be seen), do you think 343 would remove them/completely alter them with this ammount of time?
more to the point should they? would you prefer they stuck to their guns and made the game they want and hope it impresses us, just balancing it better and things along those lines, or should they re mould it into what the community wants?
note: this may be seen as a non-constructive post, but i like speculation and discussion. i am not presenting an argument or even a worst case scenario, but asking the community what they think this early beta should be; a bug test or an overhaul in case of bad features.
343 are awaiting our future feedback on Halo Channel.
This beta will give them enough room to make bigger changes before launch of the game, instead of a later TU.
This is great and all, but I am just a little worried about how much 343 will be listening. I just hope they don’t do anything too rash, based off of certain feedback. I can honestly see a lot of heads butting down the road, on the forums. Plenty will feel it is there own responsibility to convince 343 of how nice or awful something is.
I know that’s what the forums are for, but this will be on a different level, because 343 are actually making a beta on purpose for early feedback. Any other day on the forums is normal, as if you’d think that 343 never existed here.
haha thats true! cant argue there. i hope theyre being super vigilant and looking at the forums and stuff. from what theyve done so far its seems they have been. im just thinking to the future when they release the next beta trailer that shows a spartan sprinting or something and seeing how that goes, should be fun to watch! but say that did happen, and everyone freaked out, do you think they would remove sprint all together? thats the kind of radical change im thinking of. i think what will happen is instead of removing sprint (i know this topic isnt about sprint but im rambling) they will try to better integrate it into the game
Grain of Salt? Yeah, they should always do that. With so many strong emotions on these forums, it’s hard to conclude any sort of feedback with all the things you’ve described lol. People do a lot of overreacting, bold caps and !!!
Best bet would have someone organize a few official threads, with polls that are clear and concise. I’d personally would hate to look at a -Yoink- storm of unorganized posts.
yeah i was thinking, surely if they did restructure the game or even mess with it a tiny bit, theyd need to test it again especially with an extra year between the beta and launch
All I know is if sprint is still in, I’m gonna make a conscious effort to get it removed before launch. I’ll also remind them of the poll GH0S7ayame made.

This, 100%.
We gotta get this sprint nonsense out of Halo… we can’t give up, ever.

In a perfect game, sure, but that’s a stretch. 343 designed all Halo 4 multiplayer maps with sprint in mind and it still flopped. Besides, map design is only half the problem. I’d rather have them design maps with creativity and freedom, not around one ability.

I reluctantly accepted Sprint as soon as I realized it was going to be in Halo 4. I figured it would always be there from now on. However, with the scrapping of AAs, there is hope. Even if Sprint can fit into Spartan Abilities as well as Arena Gameplay fits into Halo itself.
They want to make it sound like we get to have a say in what’s good and bad, should be added and removed. But I don’t really buy that.
If for instance, there’s prone in, just an example, and the maps have been designed so that prone works well on the maps, and other aspects of the maps have taken a negative twist to them because of that map design around prone.
So the community wants prone gone, and i343 removes prone. They’d have to redesign their maps or we’re left with maps that have been gotten negative aspects because of a feature that’s not present anymore. Kind of like designing a map around sprint without actually having sprint in.
At the most I’d guess some weapon balances, perhaps some scenery added to existing maps to alter potential bad map flow/pacing.

Counter question.
Why are we trying to shoehorn sprint into Halo in the first place?
I think that’s a pretty important question to answer.
And what would the perfect sprint map in Halo look like? You’ve got plenty of things that are affected by sprint.
-Map size gets increased to keep the travel times, pacing and flow more consistent with older maps
-Grenade throwing distance gets affected as map size is increased
-Explosive radius gets affected as the map size is increased and it’s easier to escape a well placed grenade with sprint, or alteast escape an effective blast radius
-Gaps for jumping over gets affected as you have two default speeds, either they’re short and you can easily do them with sprint or they’re long so you can’t do them when not sprinting.
So, why are we trying to shoehorn sprint in? From a gameplay perspective.

While perfectly designed maps can minimize the impact, they cannot eliminate it. I would counter that it can’t be incorporated even with perfectly designed maps. A given space has to be designed with cover for a certain, specific movement speed. That speed can be (a) the base speed, (b) the sprint speed, or (c) something in between. If (a), then it is suboptimal while sprinting. If (b), then it is suboptimal while engaging in combat. If (c), then it is suboptimal for both.
