What Controller/Sensitivity Do You Use?

I use Razer Onza, Bumper Jumper, 7 Sensitivity.

All of the other Halos, I had max Sensitivity, but in Halo 4, it seems quite a bit faster & inaccurate.

Default, 7. SWAT and Regicide , 8.

Standard controller, Recon, sensitivity of 1.

Regular black controller, Recon, 3 (default) sensitivity.

Can you get banned from XBL for using a modded controller?? I don’t want to buy one and then find out i’m banned for using it. It would be used for a customised button configuration!!

No, there is no way that anyone would know you were using a modded controller.

Stevie, simply owning a modded controller should not get you banned from xbox live. For instance, if you had a macro button on a third party controller and used it in single player, you’d be fine. You would also be fine using that controller for online play, as long as you used it only like a normal controller. That means no modded features can be activated while you are playing with other in something similar to the matchmaking service. (I would assume you would be fine for custom games, as it is all user to user with no “offical” competitive aspect)

If, however, you used those modded features during an online match, then you’d definitely be looking at ban, and possibly a perma-ban. The ban would likely be your account or IP address (or both) and on a game level, at least at first. If you continued to do this, (or participated in network manipulation, Microsoft might bring their own banhammer to bear.)

Basically, most banhammers have automated processes that scan for mod-like behavior. So if your xbox is sending a button input far more frequently than us normal mortals, it will notice. Do it enough times, and it will simply autoban you. They usually don’t scan for hardware (the flash drive exploit in Halo: Reach), but Microsoft usually checks your xbox. Long story short, you can probably own a modded controller as long as you don’t cheat. But if you’re playing online, you should use a normal one, just to be on the safe side.

Keep in mind that this is my personal knowledge, and doesn’t represent any official positions of any official people.

Reach Controller
Bumper Jumper

Standard controller, recon, 6.

Halo 4 LE Controller, Default settings, Sensitivity 10.

Suggesting, and telling someone its fine to buy a modded controller should earn you a ban.

Discussing the existence of such things on a Developers Forums where cheating is strictly against the rules should earn you both a ban.

I have wrote both your names down, and if I do get into a match with either of you and feel you are using a Modded Controller, and yes I will know then I will happily report you both to Microsoft via telephone.

Recon, 6.

Halo 4 LE controller, Boxer, 10.

HAHAHA! This made my day!

On topic: Standard of standards, wired Microsoft controller black. Sensitivity 4 with the southpaw button layout.

razer onza, seriously you cannot go back to standard controller for fpss once you’ve tried one (unless you choose to claw)

I guess the real question is, are you purchasing a controller that allows you to set up your buttons how you wish, or one that has the “rapid fire” feature on it? Or are you physically modifying a controller or purchasing a standard controller that has been physically modified by someone else beyond what its original intentions were? Now I’m not sure if there is a difference in the eyes of Microsoft, but I would assume that if you purchased one of those MadCatz brand controllers or one of the other companies then you “might” be okay. But if you are purchasing a controller that’s actually had its hardware tampered with or modified then I’d assume you could be banned (if they do track that).

I know XIM makes the adapters that allow you to use a mouse and a keyboard like your playing on a PC. I don’t believe those are actually against the policy (correct me if I’m wrong), so I’d assume you could use something like that. But I’d assume that modifying the hardware on a standard Microsoft controller might be against the rules, like modifying your xbox console.

All in all, I guess if you used a modified controller, you wouldn’t necessarily be altering the state of the game, not in the same way as if you modded your xbox console. So I guess it might not be against policy; people would call it cheating since it gives you an unfair advantage over other players with standard controllers; but in the same sense, someone on PC could have a way better mouse, keyboard, or gaming controls than someone else (with a standard mouse and keyboard) and that wouldn’t be considered cheating.

So I guess all in all after all my typing, I really have no idea if its ban worthy or cheating lol…sorry I’m no help. Guess it brings up the age old question of what is considered cheating when it comes to gaming controls.

Just to clarify, i had intended on buying a modded controller for only configuring the buttons the way i like them, i.e the default layout from Reach,

I wouldn’t be interested in using it for rapid fire or any other game changing feature,

I can’t even remember the name of the company i was looking at them from, but i do remember it stated they were MLG approved, so i wasn’t sure if they were against the rules of XBL,

once again, i only intended on buying one to be able to set the buttons up the way i like, not to cheat.

10-4, I didn’t mean any disrespect or to try and insinuate that you were looking to cheat, sorry if it came off that way. I was just trying to clarify as to what type of controller it is. But to be honest I’ve never heard of anyone getting banned for having any type of modded controller. Especially not a controller that allows you to map the buttons how you want, there are plenty of companies that make controllers that do just that; and I don’t see any reason why that would be a bannable offense. But maybe your best option is to ask someone from Microsoft/343i on Twitter or something of the such to clarify. Either that or read the whole policy they have…snore…sleep…forget that…play Halo 4 lol
