I played 3 games last night and stayed with the default controls, but upped my sensitivity to 5.
I found myself wanting the B button to be melee but was hitting thruster. I remembered about 50% of the time during those three games to use the thruster when needed.
ill probably switch it up and see how I like other settings, and since I didn’t get into them too much and wasn’t aware that stabilization enabled the hover when jump/scoped that took a bit of adjusting. I cant say I don’t like that, but it was a bit of a mechanical difference for my play style.
I like default with the exception of the right thumbstick crouching. I can’t crouch and aim at the same time now. I’ve always been a hold-to-crouch guy, but I might have to swap it to toggle to use crouch effectively.
Fistick - I started using it in Halo 4, and right now it feels like the best compromise between H5’s new features and my own reflexes (based on most first person shooters played in last few years).
If I have one complaint about the Beta so far. It’s that the controls are just whack, with so much -Yoink- you’d think they’d implement a custom control scheme so you could make a layout that you’d be comfortable with, like with Street Fighter. I’ve gotten accustomed to Halo 4 controls I think, or maybe I’m using Default, can’t remember. But I do remember struggling hard to remember the controls during my first 2 games. After that I only threw grenades or scoped when trying to melee a few times.

yeah, I use that too.
maybe its me but it seems like they(343/esports) want a faster pace
I personally liked best, the stalker pace of halo 1 and 2
seems like fishsticks and recon, so far. im going to play with several settings this weekend and see how I like the each, unless one just has that natural feel for me.
default is still going against what ive learned in every other halo ive played.

this would be awesome.
especially when I get my scuf and have the ability to use them from the back of my controller…
I’m currently using the Halo 4 scheme but may switch to recon or bumper jumper. My muscle memory is really screwing me up when playing the beta, especially when it comes to reload and melee. Lucky for me I have a Scuf and can remap my paddles to whatever best suits me. I typically melee with my right paddle but with the current control schemes it makes me crouch instead. An easy fix for a Scuf owner that can remap, not so easy for those who don’t have that option.
I would really love to see custom controller layouts in the final release so players can set it up for whatever suits them. I will say that 343 gives us a lot of options for controller layouts though. I’m going to keep trying out different control schemes during the beta to see if I can find one that I like.

I get my scuf soon. ordered a few weeks ago, but holidays I assume are slowing it down a bit. it’d be nice to get it in within the next week
Southpaw sticks with bumper jumper buttons, this means I can’t use sprint or boost/dash with out performing thumb gymnastics, I have posted on here asking 343 to use up and down on the D-pad for boost/dash and sprint for us southpaw players in conjunction with the buttons, but because I’m not whinging, moaning or complaining my post is slipping down the forums fast.
Bumper Jumper, because it’s the only way to play. It’s the only way to be able to jump, shoot, throw grenades, melee, move, and aim without moving your fingers around.
I use the default. Ever since Destiny I have liked the melee being on the bumper. I haven’t experimented with other control schemes but I will look at others.
I used Bumper Jumper in Titanfall so I will try it in Halo 5

Same here. It is such a widely used control scheme (I play mainly BF4 and FC4 lately) that I decided to start using it very late in Halo 4. Took me a bit to adapt and I still make silly mistakes like throwing a grenade on a vehicle when I try to enter it. Sorry if I ever blew up some ones warthog recently, it wasn’t on purpose. I am always playing a wide variety of games at the same time and it makes the transition so much easier from game to game. I am much more comfortable with the new fish stick layout now.
Sensitivity around 7.
Using the ‘Halo 4’ control scheme. Since this scheme’s implementation in Halo: Reach, it has always felt the most natural evolution from Halo 1 & 2 (Halo 3’s default was so weird). It took me a bit to get used to the ground pound being on ‘B’, but I am starting to get the hang of it.
I use the Bumper Jumper setup . Used this in other halo’s Also the controls are very good once you get used to them. ( KDA spread = 9.3+ increasing) Sensitivity = 7 The reasoning behind this is because the sprint and strafe abilities mean you cant play on low sensitivitys and keep up with the opponent. Sensitivity of 7-6 seems to perform this task without losing too much accuracy.
