After listening to the BR sample as well as seeing the devs refer to the wider spacing for cleanliness, I am thinking that many people will find it frustrating to use the BR.
In H5, the initial nerf resulted in the three bullets in each burst being less compressed, necessitating better tracking after pulling the trigger. They scaled it back slightly after the bad feedback but the BR is still considered fairly unreliable.
Not sure if the H5 sample is pre-nerf or post-nerf, but regardless the Infinite BR burst is pretty uncompressed compared to its predecessor. Maybe this is intentional for sandbox balancing (impossible to know right now) but I am doubting people will find it satisfying to use.

considering it doesn’t seem like the BR has to contend with the Magnum of Halo 5, as the sidekick is much more like the gunfighter, I think we’re going to see a BR similar to the H2BR with less aim assist because this game doesn’t seem to have the whole suite of advanced mobility. The Halo 5 BR was a laser at release, just like all the other weapons in the game, and I don’t think the way it was tuned in H5 was the way to go. The recoil is jarring and the magnum is much easier and more consistent.
I’d love to see a precision weapon with projectile bullets, which drastically increases the skill needed to do well with it, we’ll just have to wait and see!

Halo weapons have always been projectile. Some are just so fast they essentially behave like hitscan.
This legend of a Halo youtuber figured it out. He has a video somewhere showing this with Halo 5s BRs: https://youtu.be/KrhOucmZyck

Trust me I’m well aware, I’m saying I’d like to see a precision weapon with projectile bullets in Halo infinite. I’d like to see the Halo 5 video because as far as I’m aware the BR is hitscan, just like every other precision weapon in the game. In either case I’d like to see the BR use slower projectiles similar to the speed of Halo 3’s, maybe faster to make up for stretching due to sprint.
The only thing I think we can gather is that it sounds more crisp and snappy. You can clearly hear three distinct shots fired as opposed to a longer “brrrap”. We can’t read into it beyond that really since we are talking about a different game. In the same way you cant say the Halo Reach AR is better or worse than the Halo CE AR. Each game is unique and you can’t rip pieces of one to compare to pieces of another, we have to compare the balance of the whole sandbox. Certainly the Advanced Mobility of H5 makes these types of comparisons even more “apples to oranges”.

Would you agree that it would be harder to land all three shots of a burst when they are spaced out more? People have become used to swiping a bit with a tight grouping…when that grouping is expanded there are bigger gaps between each bullet resulting in players feeling like the gun is unreliable.
In this case, I am simply talking about how players perceive the “feel” of the weapon rather than its role in the sandbox.

Here you go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT4D9MaPQJM.
The velocity in the original Halo 2 BR is 400. In Halo 5 it’s 3000 … so no wonder it feels like hitscan. At that speed, it basically is.
But I get what you mean: going back to leading our shots again like in Halo 3. Putting a bit more effort & skill into our gunplay.

I never really cared for the way the BR fired and sounded in previous Halo games with the exception of Halo 5 as I have not had an opportunity to play it yet. I always got the feeling of using an over buffed M-16 without proper recoil related bullet spread out of using the BR. Even with the BR being the best all purpose weapon in Halo 2-4 I was bored and unimpressed with it. It definitely sounds a lot better in the Infinite sound clip but until we actually get to experience using it it is impossible to say how the BR actually performs in the game.

This was interesting and I learned some new stuff today. Thanks! I knew the H2BR worked this way, but I figured the H5 would be hitscan. I guess this puts the argument of hitscan being more consistent for lag compensation in the dirt considering the BR in H5 is projectile, granted Magnetism will correct for that, makes me wonder if the Reach DMR also just shoots an incredibly fast projectile similar to the H2BR, or if it is hitscan. Thanks for the information!
Im just gonna say its hard to tell anything from that audio file, plus it might not even be final. a lot of the sound is effected by where its being shot.
If the br fires slower i don’t think that a be a good thing when infinite looks to be in a much larger open area. the spread will just be annoying. either way sooo early to tell, right now its all just speculation.

I’m perfectly okay with that. Not sure about others opinions but I’m okay with having more skill and effort.
I want to think the rifle will be something like the Halo 2/3 BR as it doesnt have a direct competition like in Halo 4 and 5, which means less bullet magnetism, somewhat fast bullet speed, but not fast enough to be hitscan. As for the sound by itself, i like beefy gun sounds, like the Halo CEA asault rifle
> It makes me wonder if the Reach DMR also just shoots an incredibly fast projectile similar to the H2BR
Honestly the new BR sound sounds more like an HMG to me. Kind of off for a BR. Good sound for a heavy gun with big bullets, but not a burst shot mid range rifle.
