Nickmercs tweeted today that he thinks Infinite might be hot for two weeks then fall off. If this is the case, what can save this game from falling off popularity wise or what can bring it back up? I know what some of you might be thinking here. It’s a streamer and it’s just a tweet and assumption. Also, aware that this game will be tailored to Halo fans and not anyone else. How can it grow though? What are things that can happen if it starts to lose the player base? Aside from a BR that is, as that’s been said a million times. Anyone got any ideas?
”Ima keep it a buck. It’s prolly gonna be hot for 2 weeks. Then fall the -Yoink- off. No BR, last 3 halos were low tier in comparison. We’ll see tho, honestly just excited for something new. 0 expectations.”

I disagree, with it being F2P the audience for the game is bigger than ever. It will lose player over the first few weeks as every game does (casuals who give it a go on Game Pass), but I doubt it will ‘fall off’.
I think by making infinite the best halo game it can be will go s long way towards it’s long term success. I’m of the belief that halo 4 and 5’s (and arguably reach’s) biggest issue was that they tried too much to chase trends and/or reinvent halo, and lost a lot of what made the game special in the process. There were other issues of course such as lack of content in the later titles and of course the story direction, but for a lot of people there hasn’t been a real halo game 14 years.
I don’t think the market for arena shooters is completely gone, if anything they’re starved for more at this point. MCC going to PC showed that a new halo in the same vein as old ones has potential…xao I believe if 343 puts out a good game with the look and feel of halo, it’ll do well.
As for keeping players entertained for a long time, regularly releasing new content should of fine. New campaigns, new game modes, events, etc. I think halo is unique enough from everything else nowadays that it’s not neccessarily competing as hard for the attention of players of other shooters so much as a currently underrepresented fanbase. Not to say there won’t be competition with other shooters coming out later this year, I just feel it won’t be as big a deal as cod vs battlefield.
So yeah, if 343 can deliver a great halo game, including a good halo feel and look, a memorable campaign, candy excellent variety of custom game and forge options, I think it’ll be very successful. Just have to hope all the pieces are there.
A free-to-play game with a trend-setting battlepass? Sandbox focus and arena-style, fun combat and customization unlike most other games. Fun will keep the popularity from falling, just like how Valorant, Siege, Warzone, Fortnite, and all those games have huge popularity that makes them seem like Titans. Same for Battlefield and Apex. Halo will join these games at the top of the gaming community and draw people in because of it’s legendary legacy and unique combat system. I just hope the Halo community nurtures and welcomes the newcomers instead of gatekeeping and pushing them out. Looking at you, Halo 3 fanboys. Time for new stuff and new players to take over, time to train the next generation of Spartans!
We don’t need a Br as long as the multiplayer has plenty of content that is fun and engaging and they keep supporting it. If they did a BR I fear multiplayer would suffer so its good they have dismissed a BR so far.
So Ninja, Nickmercs, Shroud so far seem to be some of the streamers interested. What big streamers are yall hoping to pop on Halo? I hope for TimTheTatMan, Tfue, Cloakzy, and Asmongold to get on.
I have NEVER liked br starts to halo’s mp games. Like teabagging, killing in halo is something that should be done up close and personal, not from halfway across the map. And yea I’ve shot someone to death with the br from across a map.

BR meaning battle royale, not battle rifle. Anyway, tons of people including me would like BR starts so maybe they will put them in a separate playlist like MCC.

I think it’s going to need updates as often as Fortnite. Say what you want about Fortnite but they keep things new every week, even if its just a new set of challenges or mini event. I think Halo would do amazing if it always has a little something new to keep people playing and coming back.
Definitely frequent updates, adding new skins, even potentially new weapons and vehicles etc.
So long as they don’t do what Call of Duty did and end up Originally looking serious before adding super goofy over the top stuff.
I am not a fan of Battle Royales but if it helps keep the game going I am all for it. Just so long as it isn’t seen as the main focus of the Multiplayer.
Pretty sure free to play already addresses this. I didn’t look at what he said, but if he thinks it’s going flop because there’s no BR that’s absolutely laughable.

He made it sound like no BR is a concern, yes. I do agree though. Game is going to be pretty big. Most of the friends I played with growing up are excited for it and if a majority of the fan base is, then this game will go very far. And it being free to play will bring in TONS of noobs. Which is so good for us. I think that like the others say above, as long as they are pumping out content every season, it has a solid esports liking, and lots of fun I just can’t see it failing. I think they should use a BR as a last resort if things get drastic but even then, BRs could be old news by that time.
Having no BR is the only reason I am still hopeful for the game. The way they avoid losing popularity is by making a damn good game that makes people want to play.
I love the single player, and its really the reason I play the games. If the MP dies I will be incredibly disappointed but as long as the SP isn’t -Yoink-, I will live.
I think nickmercs tweet is a hot take. Halo has dominated in its niche for 20 years. Sure it doesn’t have apex or cod numbers but it doesn’t have to. The fan base is here, and more people than ever are excited for infinite
If infinite is fun and satisfying to play then it will pull its own weight long term. It’s one of those one hit wonders sorta things like H3 was for it’s time.
Being concerned about what some dude says is whats going to kill it for you. I mean as someone who played halo wars 1/2 I dont think population will be that big of a deal, you’ll always find a game. Also look at the popularity MCC got on PC. Even if it drops, it’ll be something to come back to.
But then again I’m just another random dude too
It being a F2P game already helps with some of that. But really, they need to make a strong first impression. That means making a content-rich, working game right outta the box.
