What can be improved on in Halo 4?

I’d like your feedback on what you like and dislike in Halo 4 as well as what you would like to see improved so that players come back to it before Halo 5 releases. The poll above is just for a quick overview but please leave your reasoning and thought below for discussion and possibly to put a bug in someone’s ear. The fans/players make the game.

343i isn’t going to be doing anything major for this game besides playlist changes and what not. Huge things people have been wanting, and that 343i has been tortuously ambiguous over, like custom game improvements and options are NEVER going to happen no matter how often they “look into them”.

The players who have left aren’t coming back. Halo 4 has all of the changes and additions it’s going to get. From here on out, expect only minor matchmaking and playlist updates.

> The players who have left aren’t coming back. Halo 4 has all of the changes and additions it’s going to get. From here on out, expect only minor matchmaking and playlist updates.

They did say they’re going to do another weapon tuning update.

> The players who have left aren’t coming back. Halo 4 has all of the changes and additions it’s going to get. From here on out, expect only minor matchmaking and playlist updates.

This ^^^ , anymore from what I’ve seen, you get 1 chance and only 1 chance to impress gamers. If everything isn’t perfect, it’s trash. There’s no more waiting 6 months for a title update to make the game good (we saw with halo 4 many left before, then more left after the title update, while a few came back), people have moved on to the next game.

Now not everyone is that way, but it feels as though the majority are.

But the key question is, do you think 343 or microsoft actually CARE that people are not staying with halo 4? No, they get the money up front. After that, they may want to make some additional money from dlc, but let’s be honest. That dlc revenue isn’t going to cover many costs. They can get away with having a handful of people upkeep a game on the market while the majority of developers work on the new product that’s supposed to sell millions.

Well, I might as well answer this cause I haven’t in any thread before. Fair warnings, it’s gonna be long.

Spartan Ops:

Just terrible all around. The dialogue is brutal, Halo is M rated, use that to your advantage with dialogue instead of PG interactions. My favorite line from a video game, the end of Dead Space 2 when Isaac Clark yells at the marker (if you don’t know it, look it up).

The missions just aren’t enjoyable. It was bad enough to a point I didn’t even download the season 2 which is free just cause I didn’t want it wasting space on my HD.

Worst part is it wiped Firefight. I would of been fine if this was an addition, but it isn’t and is a horrible decision in my opinion. Firefight (ODST’s specifically) was phenomenal, it was skill testing and had huge replayable value. Reach’s wasn’t great but if they reverted back to ODST’s system it would of been superb. It competed against Gears Horde (which I love) and even COD Zombies and now it’s stripped.

I have 0 positives things to say about spartan ops, especially with it removing firefight. A complete waste of money and time.

Campaign:

Campaign was good, but the weakest halo for me. I liked the new race being brought in and the new variety of weapons. But the Didact felt so forced I couldn’t even understand the history behind him. Then the covenant randomly teams up? (I’m still not sure how that happened) and it was just one button to the next button.

However, Master chief’s new emotion based side was a interesting take and I did enjoy that and the story was still good, except didn’t feel like halo.

Big problem: The ending was brutal, it didn’t even feel like a challenge. You play for hours trying to reach the Didact and when you do it’s a tap “x” tap “a” sequence? Are you kidding me. What happened to the challenge like Halo 2’s Chieftain etc. My favorite part of games was to reach the final stage and have a a hell of a time finishing off that final boss but that was completely stripped from me. Then to top it off, the whole ending with the chief and cortana makes absolutely no sense to me. None of my friends understood it either, even my one friend who has read all the halo books (not a clue).

Finally, multiplayer:

I’ve basically given up on multiplayer. I don’t even know where to begin.

Positives:

  • I was happy with 343 removing armor lock, lowering jet pack etc but they brought in vision and I feel camo even more of a crutch.
  • The new mantis was a great vehicle edition
  • The throw option in oddball adds a new element
  • The idea of ordinance, in theory, is a good idea (but poorly executed). This could of been good if ordinance drops were say, (Left: Grenade Resupply, Bottom: Primary weapon Resupply, Right: Speed boost or Overshield) but the random power weapons unevenly placed is brutal.
  • New Weapon Sounds

Negatives:

  • Instant respawn
  • Basically unlimited sprint
  • Size of the maps
  • Limited amount of the maps
  • Customizable load outs
  • Still brutal armor abilities
  • The DMR plus another cross-mapping primary weapon (Light Rifle)
  • The destruction of map movement
  • Boltshot as a starter weapon
  • Plasma Pistol as a starter (destroys vehicles)
  • Plasma Grenades as a starter weapon
  • Vehicles having almost no armor levels
  • The slow recharge rate of shields
  • Playlist rotations
  • The unlikely commendation chances
  • Commendation medals that require playlist wins (that the playlist doesn’t even exist!)
  • Spartan character model
  • The removal of more vehicles (revenant)
  • Almost no incentive to win objectives
  • Weapon imbalance
  • Amount of lag due to host based servers
  • No ability to filter searches
  • No in-game CSR
  • DLC rarely comes up (I feel completely scammed again by 343 with no DLC playlist)
  • Killcam
  • Heavy aim assist
  • Heavy bullet mag.
  • Destruction of custom games
  • No Assault gametype
  • No Juggernaut
  • Infection is unplayable.

I’m pretty sure I’m missing a lot of negatives, but I can’t think of anymore.

Halo 4 did a good job on some new aspects, but absolutely destroyed everything else in the process. I most likely will not be buying halo 5, and probably passing on the Xbox One because of it.

There is a lot 343 needs to bring back to make halo feel like halo. Many of my dislikes are all new features that just aren’t necessary.

Side note: I would pay for a xbox one & Halo 5 if they added a (Halo 2 multiplayer server feature), just to play classic halo.

I have a friend who refuses to support consoles anymore and he said that’s what 343 should add to Halo 5, and he’d pay top dollar just to relive halo 2.

What do I want in halo 4…

Well, first off it’s been comfirmned that halo4 will no longer be receiving any major updates outside of forge and playlists, so it’s pointless to ask for anything at this point to be implemented, but i think we need to cater more to players like me and cobra who want something halo was originally famous for in CE…

CUSTOM GAMES…

Really, I had good memories playing custom games with my older sister back when CE came out… And the possibilities for each game type and mode were endless, there were a Multitude of variations I could do withjust me and my best friends, I e had all nighter playing warthog race, capture the flag, forge maps ( admitidly crappy ones since I’m no architect) And, just running around exploring a great map with an endless possibilities for how the game would end…

Heck I never even played a matchmaking halo game till halo 3, since I never had internet in my old home, but still. I’ve had some of my greatest halo memories from anywhere between a 3 hour infection match on sand trap to just 5. Minutes of driving around blood gulgche before school…

And now there’s halo 4, with custom games that feel barebones and lacking in several departments, including the flagnum which ruined capture the flag for me and my friends, lack of any racing options in forge, and the endless customization forge options halo reach had…

So. If 343: ever sees this post, don’t forget that people still play halo for more than just multiplayer and campaign, there’s still a crowd that just likes to get a group of friends on a Friday night and bust out some of the most outrageous game. Modes you’ll ever see with just a good Imagination and a drink or 2…

This was a post of mine a few weeks back.

> Hi Guys,
>
> Back when Halo 4 came out I was a total die hard. I got to SR 130 in like March and loved playing the game. However, I got sick of it after awhile because there was no motivation to earn points since I had reached mastery. So I popped in Halo Reach and tried to get to inheritor like the good ol’ days. And for a few months Reach was fun and brought back good memories. When Reach got boring I thought about Halo 4. However I was reluctant to go back to Halo 4:
> - bad lagging times
> - Spartan Ops got boring quick
> - lack of new and interesting playlists
> - took too long to get kills (almost 6-8 shots with dmr and br)
> - leveled up too quickly
>
> However I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Since I started playing like two weeks ago the game seems transformed. New playlists like ricochet and big team battle were great additions, less lagging and faster load times, more skilled players that know what they are doing, and faster killing (which I’ve known has been around for awhile). After being defiantly attached to Halo Reach, Halo 4 has made a comeback in my books. Though Spartan Ops remains repetitive and boring, the multiplayer seems much more advanced and faced paced. Are there changes I want for the game: heck yeah! But I’ve noticed improvements that make me excited for Halo 5

Since release, Halo 4 has undergone some serious changes, most of them for the better. Since I’ve noticed and have enjoyed many new modifications to Halo 4 I’ve gone back to the game.

The game is far from perfect however:

  • get rid of awareness
  • get rid of boltshot in starter weapons
  • make binary rifle a two-shot body kill
  • bring back Dominion and Regicide as single playlists

These are just a few of the things I would like 343 to modify, but the game overall is pretty good. 343 “had big shoes to fill” after Bungie left the Halo universe. But the good news is that 343 is making some changes and I believe Halo 5 will be a much better starting product than Halo 4 was. Frankly, Halo 4’s poor reviews out of the gate are the reason it is struggling with population right now.

That would would be stupid. Don’t get me wrong, I hate that the thing is one shot kill, but with 2 shot kill, it would become a worse sniper rifle. It would become a human sniper, with half the mag size, and lasers pointing out of it.

On the subject of snipers, the beam rifle has to lose its shotgun traits. It’s a sniper, it shouldn’t be so easy to use up-close.

No your right, I didn’t say it, but its obvious that you would have to change the binary rifle a little bit in order to get rid of the “one shot one kill”. I just think its unfair to shot someone in the toe and get a kill for it.

I agree that the beam rifle has to be less of a close-quarters weapon too.

I just posted this in another thread, but here are my thoughts condenced to 10 points. i could go on.

  1. New engine. (current Reach ‘copy and paste’ is useless)
  2. In game ranks
  3. Separate Social and Ranked playlists.
  4. No AAs, Ordnance, weapon drops, weapon markers or other ‘random’ crap
  5. Bring back equipment, descope and remove flinch
  6. Better weapon sounds. (most sound like plastic now)
  7. WEAPON BALANCING
  8. Longer, more interesting and adventurous campaign
  9. Use halo 2/3 as a guide, dont just go in a whole other direction.
  10. And finally, can 343i atleast acknowledge our thoughts and feelings, instead of ignoring the blatant obvious truth about their game. Give us something to go on so we know what you plan for halo 5. 343, you are a business, you have customers. Stop ignoring us.

So yeh, fat chance of me getting the xbox one, even for Destiny. So halo 5 better be friggin amazing.

> CUSTOM GAMES…

I don’t know why 343i has such a hard time understanding that the popularity of every Halo release had more to do with the entire package and not just matchmaking.

Sure, you could go online and play Team Swat for a couple of hours but after that maybe you wanted to play a game somebody made up. Something goofy like Rocket Race or Grifball (both created by FANS, not the developer). You could make a Slayer game that removed ALL the variables, create a map that emulated trench warfare, build a spaceship to fight in. Or a pirate ship, it didn’t matter. Whole groups of people formed for the express purpose of forging and creating custom games. Yet after the advances we saw with Halo 3 and Reach we’re a bit… disappointed… that we couldn’t really cut loose in Halo 4.

No, when we get a new gametype we get it from 343i and we should just like it because they do.

For me, it was Lag.

Lag due to abysmal host selection, lag due to not picking the player with the best connection as host, lag due to no spatial filters to reduce player match up from across the globe in a game which is more lag, no user options for “Good Connection Only”, language or skill whens setting up a matches and constantly picking players with the lowest SR as host because of “Host History”.

And before I hear the tired old “it’s your connection” 343 mantra, no other multiplayer game I play lagged like H4 does. The lag I am talking about was when H4 had 100,000+ playing daily too - not now when H4 has fewer players than Reach does daily.

June 6th I permanently went back to Halo Reach for my Halo fix in multiplayer, co-op campaign and co-op FireFight. H4 gave me 14 out of 20 games having 0.5+ second sof lag - where as Halo Reach I get 1 game in 20. I no longer empty my DMR into an H4 enemies head and not even taking their shields off or throwing plasma grenades threw players chest in H4 or pulling the trigger on a rocket launcher in H4 and waiting up to 5 seconds before the weapon fires.

I hit what I shoot now in Reach and this is all about H4’s Lag.

Yeah I agree

As much as I didn’t like reach. I had to admit the forge and custom game modes were both handled really well…

It felt like custom games on halo 4 was more or less secondary to the campaign and multiplayer…that they just threw it in for the sake of it and gave us just an option to play the same maps as multiplayer and same. Modes…

I could hope for custom games to be fixed in halo 5, but considering what little they have said on this matter, I doubt we’ll see anything good…

There’s so many things that can be improved so I don’t even have time to write them in this post.

Nothing is gonna be changed though. The improvements will be in Halo 5, hopefully.
