You know what bugs me about the energy sword? That when you use it in the game it has limited energy but when the Elites use it in the Cinematics, they never ran out of energy…If there’s an explination for that, I would appreciate it.
Game mechanics.
Literally the sole reason. Can’t have a powerful weapon have infinite ammo - it needs to be fair gameplay wise. Simple as that.
The same reason Chief has his trusty Assault Rifle with him in every cutscene.

they did that once back in halo2, most every one was pissed. one sword that never ran out, if you could get to it first most of the time no one could stop you.

I believe the covenant know how to reload the plasma batteries, as Every time a human tried opening a covenant weapon, according to Halseys Journal (Halo Reach LE) it exploded.

They could be coded to only open for covenant races. At least, that’s how I would do it.
It’s not only for fair game play but it’s also because it’s a covenant using a covenant weapon, simply because of this reason and for the game Cinematics they have unlimited ammunition

When I read it, I thought that it was because the tech used to open a plasma weapon wasn’t available to humans.
