What armor do you start with in standard edition

I started with the default and the mark vi armor in halo 5, my friend started with mark 5, default and chiefs damaged armor. I want to know if 343 ruined the fun of unlocking the mark vi armor or not

The current gen of mark vi is unlocked through req packs, and is ultra rare. The mark vi you are referring to is the gen1, both normal and scarred, which is unlocked by playing master chief collection and unlocking achievements via that game. The current gen is similar, but has subtle differences.
