What are your expectations for Halo Infinite?

Made a post here on reddit on the subject:

> Now that the rumors, leaks, etc. have started to subside…What do YOU want for this game?
> I mean, sure, we all want:
> - Playable Elites
> - Black Undersuits (check)
> - Old art style (check)
> - The Flood’s return
>
> And so on…But what about the stuff that hasn’t been openly requested by everyone? Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of removing sprint and I love the Spartan abilities in H5. However, how can we compromise? Here’s my first idea:
> - Choose between “Classic” and “Modern” gameplay modes. Nothing changes visually, just the gameplay. Classic = no sprint, no abilities, modern = abilities + sprinting enabled. Competitive would more likely lean on Classic gameplay or be a new gameplay mode in multiplayer, blending both classic and modern.
>
> Now the rest…
> - Choose your armor. Master Chief’s armor can take on a sleeker style or a more modern look from Halo 4-5. Which armor you chose dictates your abilities. Old armor makes you faster and you can sneak around with active camo (maybe?). Modern armor turns you into a walking tank, basically like Halo 5, but slightly slower and with more HP. You can choose your loadout before any mission. Maybe the player can accumulate a few different sets of armor and choose between them.
> - The Didact returns as an anti-hero instead of a full-blown villain, composed into an AI form. Maybe he brings Mendicant Bias or 343 GS back with him.
> - Blue Team returns. They also serve as Chief’s co-op buddies. You can disable them if you don’t want allies on the field of battle. Instead, the dialogue changes and they talk to you through a communicator, from the ship, instead of talking to you directly. Doesn’t require a massive change to the plot and character development, as a result. Just record a slightly different set of lines and/or add an effect to the alternate sound so instead of talking live with you, they talk to you through a comm.
> - Fireteam Osiris returns as a playable team for 1 or 2 mission(s). They’re secondary characters.
> - Halsey, Lasky and The Arbiter return as supporting characters.
> - Roland is Chief’s new AI.
> - Ancient Humans make a brief appearance. Maybe their tech, as well.
> - The Precursors are enemies in the game. (Simply a variation of The Flood, I suppose)
> - The ability to remotely control certain vehicles like the Mantis and Colossus (which you can also get in), as well as drones. You can control them like you can control the killstreak mechs in Call of Duty. Campaign-only, please! And no killstreaks in Halo, please, that’s not what I meant by it.
> - The Banished appear in the game.
> - Professor Anders makes an appearance in the game.
> - EVERY VEHICLE EVER returns. From Halo 1 to Halo 5 multiplayer to Halo Wars 2. If you can ride it, it should be in. Be it the Mantis, Colossus, H5 Scorpion, Classic Scorpion, Falcon, Sangheili Vehicles, Banished/Brute Vehicles, Grizzly, Phaeton, Kestrel, Hawk, Cobra, Hornet, Wasp…etc. You get my point.
> - More Promethean/Forerunner vehicles.
> - The game allows you to explore the world a bit (Like Crysis), but isn’t open world (Like Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077).
> - Marty returns to do the soundtrack, but works with the composers from H4 and H5, to re-use those memorable H4 and H5 tracks, as well as the classic ones, all while creating new tunes, as well.
> - The “simple stories” motto is thrown out the door. Halo 6 explores and develops characters but isn’t burdened by its need to do so, nor does it all detract from Chief’s story. We also reference things like Forerunners, Precursors, The Banished and other events in the books, but never without at least giving enough context for the players to understand, in case they never read the novel in question.
> - Dual Wielding and Equipment make a return, along with the newer Spartan Abilities and Sprint.
> - Forge everything! From vehicles to maps to…Anything. Most expansive Forge yet, make your own game modes, etc. Let us make realistic-looking vehicles and maps, too, not like in H5, where the textures and lighting are bland. Let us make stuff that looks like the official maps and vehicles, por favor!

But what about you guys here? What are your hopes and expectations for the next Halo game?

Mainly be better then Halo 5 and handled better content wise. Bring back things the community has been wishing for a long time such as playable elites with them being good on customization and UI such as Halo Reach. With the people who joined 343i recently I think the Campaign is more likely gonna be good since that shall not be named left 343i. Gameplay wise I’m expecting it to be a hybrid of classic and modern mechanics that fit in the game very well. I think doing so will fit into the games new change of the artstyle and the series as a whole.

Sprint is my only expectation for Halo Infinite.

Outside of that I trust in 343i to deliver an excellent product and will likely enjoy the game regardless as long as it offers sprint.

I expect for several vehicle returns and tons of new ones. This game is going to be big when it comes out. 343 can’t screw up. It’s what everyone is saying.

Basically just make it somewhat as good as halo 2 and people will love it. 343 needs to learn that less can be good and I hope this can be the game that brings back the franchise.

I foresee I’ll watch gameplay on youtube and then maybe buy it & an xbox one x. But idk

not sure just hoping for a more enjoyable campaign

I want a masterpiece that will make 343 be remembered for years to come. I want the greatest Halo and FPS made in a long time, if not the best Halo ever. But what might we get instead? A great game with a few flaws.

I expect it to be the halo game that truly brings that joyish glee I once had for halo. I still love halo but it doesn’t have that type of way it use to make me feel

Way too high.

I’m already hoping for so much, but with such little detail available to us.

Never go in with expectations. I don’t allow myself such things, and I always end up having plenty of fun as a result. It’s just not realistic for people to build their own expectations. They’re almost never fulfilled.

I’m trying not to set too many expectations. It leads to disappointment. I do like what we saw of the engine demo, but we know nothing of the type of game they’re making. We can, and have let our imaginations run wild, but we shouldn’t, not yet.

I don’t expect anything good, 343 have disappointed me 3 times but Halo Infinite does look promising. I want 343 to make a real Halo game which means getting rid of sprint and abilities, bringing back playable Elites and also add playable Brutes, and bringing back the classic soundtrack. If none of that happens, I ain’t even gonna bother buying the game.

Getting rid of sprint wouldn’t make the next Halo game any more “real,” than if it does offer sprint. It would only make the experience worse.

Care to explain how it would make the experience worse because I don’t see how it would, bud. Removing sprint would make you equal to everyone else because everyone is moving at the same speed and not some players zooming around the map and some just running. Sprint forces you to put your weapon down and prevents you from shooting, regenerating your shield, throwing grenades, and meleeing which makes you vulnerable to someone who isn’t sprinting.

I hope that Halo Infinite gives me reasons to keep coming back. In the long run, Halo 5 didn’t do this for me. The incentive to play Halo 5 was threefold: Ranking up, earning REQ packs, and just having fun.

I greatly dislike ranked play, so that’s automatically off the list for me.

REQ packs didn’t keep me interested for quite a few reasons. For one, there were way too many cosmetic items. Not only were most of them unappealing, but the REQ pool was needlessly bloated with lots of reskins. Seriously, how many green colored visors do you need? Most of the ones I wanted were legendary, and my energy to keep grinding for points burned out a long time ago. As for the other half of the REQ system, Warzone weapons and powerups, I lost my interest in collecting weapons just the same. I never used them anyway because I was afraid that they would get wasted, and rightly so. The only useful items for taking out other players were aerial vehicles and The Answer. Everything else was bested by teamshot. Besides, the REQ system as a whole just got more laggy and unresponsive over time. So even if I wanted to call in a weapon, I probably couldn’t anyway. This ties into my third point.

Having fun. Warzone used to be my go-to playlist. 343 intended it to be the casual half of Halo 5’s multiplayer. But the lack of serious attention to it over Halo 5’s lifetime has made me abandon the playlist entirely. They’ve added new maps and changed up the bosses, but serious problems were never addressed as far as I know. The game boiled down into stacking up and farming. Covenant and Promethean enemies were made artificially difficult by making them insanely tanky. Seriously, I’ve never felt weaker as a Spartan in any Halo game ever. Issues like getting the last shot on a boss were not just brushed off by 343, but they practically mocked those of us who complained about it. On the whole, Halo 5 in general felt too sweaty, regardless of what I was playing. I wish I could put my finger on why, but I can’t.

So with all my critiques out on the table, here’s what would bring me back to the franchise. Right now I’m thinking back to Halo Reach and how it always had challenges to encourage playing a little bit of everything. Challenges in campaign, multiplayer, and firefight. Fun custom games, forge, and so on. Everything you played contributed points to ranking up. So when I played campaign, for instance, I didn’t feel like I was wasting my time because I was earning points, as opposed to earning them through multiplayer only. If 343 could make an integral sort of experience like Halo Reach for Infinite, that would be wonderful.

The other thing I want Infinite to have is a smooth UI, with lots of polish for the game in general. Halo 5 just got slower over time, with more lag in the menus and REQs. And this is all on top of the game’s inherently choppy animations when navigating through the menus. Honestly, it felt like it was all held together with duct tape. Reach’s menus always felt smooth, and it was something we all took for granted back in the day. I believe a smooth user experience should always be a priority, not an afterthought. Given the fact that 343 has a fancy new engine to work with, I’m hopeful that they can accomplish this.

If not, then I’ll be going back to Destiny 2 again.
