I noticed in my YouTube feed that people noticed the BXB combo worked in Infinite. I hoped that would happen, but I also hoped that people would -Yoink!- about them until release so they don’t get patched beforehand.
I feel like they’re a point of contention where the devs and community are on complete opposite sides. It seems like the devs hate them because they’re “bugs,” a small part of the community also hate them because they’re “cheating,” but I feel most of us abuse and love these mechanics. They add to the skill, it’s just like any button combo in any fighting game. Noobs will mash attack and block, while experts are chaining combos.
I feel that there are really two communities too, a 4&5 community, who will absolutely migrate to Infinite, and the classic group who haven’t touched 4 & 5 since release. Infinite’s goal should be to bring that older group back into the mix. I thought that’s why it was so heavily influenced by CE.
personally, the reason I play CE is the pace of the gunplay. 3 is the slowest of the classic games because the lack of good combos, 2 is faster paced thanks to quad shots and BXR. CE is by far the fastest because you never have to stop to reload and melees are usually insta-kills with splash damage. It’s really nice to see an insta-kill melee in Infinite, but I fear it’ll be removed before launch.
They aren’t free either, in the sense that they break the game. Landing both hits in a double melee is very hard to master, and the BXR/quad shot are quite awkward and takes a huge amount of skill to land all shots in the burst. The only combo that’s I’d consider trivial is backpack reloading and even that takes some skill because you have to listen for the audio queue to switch back.
I wonder if my perception of the combos is skewed by which games I play, maybe my views are way off from the community. So do you all like the combos or not? And am I wrong that the devs seem very anti-combo?
