Less than a day away from the introduction of the forge beta. You’ve seen the videos and perhaps some community creations already like that toy story map. So what are you most excited to build with all the new tools available?
For me, I’ll be building a mcdonalds map. It’s been a tradition of mine since H3 and I think I’ll be able to make the best one yet! my last build was on H5 and featured a highway with off ramp, a modern mcdonalds design complete with burning stoves, drive thru, working sink, a police station, school, parking lot, and even a driveable pelican!
I’m excited to see what all I can do this time around.
probably a simple slayer arena and castle wars map. ive tried scripting more complex game modes in past games but could never get anything game mode specific to spawn. so for me, just slayer maps
A handicapping script for our weekly Halo nights. Scoring based on K/D of the victim (KD * 10). Good players are nerfed when they hit a streak of 3 (pop go your shields) and bad players are buffed with an overshield on spawn (for between 15 and 90 seconds depending on your KD).
Head Hunters. Seems like a good project to get my head around scripting.
A version of H5’s legendary Bag 'n Tag. When you kill someone a zone appears on their body and you score by running into that zone and crouching up and down before it disappears.
I know it’s going to be a huge challenge but I really want to remake Halo 2’s Containment. I went out and bought a series S just to boot up MCC and try to remake some maps and take inspiration from campaign environments.
Think of making a forge canvas people can forge and add on, think halo reach forge world. Looking forward to driving warthog around on it and just having fun. Probably create something zeta halo themed to start with.
Since Halo Reach I’ve made it a specialty of mine to remake and redux maps from previous Halo titles. Back in Halo Reach I did make a decent recreation of Cold storage and Foundry from Halo 3. Halo 4 I remade Construct, Narrows, Sanctuary and Avalanche. Avalanche required a modded map because I needed enough pieces to be able to make the canyon wall around the back side, but it turned out pretty good and then I made a spiritual successor that didn’t use a modded map so that way I had something Avalanche like that was actually forged by me and would have my name to it. Sadly because of the changes done to Halo 5 I was not able to do much forging. I mean don’t get me wrong Halo 5 had an amazing abundance of pieces and was a big step forward in forging, but the controls were just clearly meant for PC that had a terrible controller layout slapped on top of them. The entire thing was so unintuitive that I just couldn’t tolerate trying to forge on console and I didn’t have a computer good enough to actually try running Halo 5 forge.
When they announced that Halo infinite forge would have multiple controller layouts I was very happy to hear that and I look forward to seeing how things work. I’ll probably try remaking Construct again. I’ve always loved that map and I think it would play really well in infinite. I’ve also already promised one of my friends that I’ll try remaking a couple of Halo 2 maps because they were his favorites and he really liked how accurate and well playing my versions were. You know me, when I make a promise…
Just a heads up- Forge council member UneeqTV has already built Foundry in the co-op beta and made it as accurate as possible to the original. He may port it into the retail version shortly after launch.
