What are the opinions on H5 graphics?

This is more towards the people that have actually played the game, not only watched Youtube videos.

To me it looks somewhere between Halo 4 and H2A.

H2A was the best graphically in my opinion.

The lighting makes rocks and stuff look super real, but the majority of halo is metal structures, you can’t really do much to that. I thought they were great. Character models look like MCC imo

I think the graphics look great ( I only have watched YouTube videos but they all have been in HD Quality 60fps )

I havent played the game but i did play the beta. Even then i thought it looked awesome.

I’d say the spartan models and the environmental models for the most part are amazing and are like major leaps from previous Halos. However, and this may be just because of the fact that they have simiair models, most of the actual enemies look more or less the same compared to Halo 4. The vehicles, especially the Scorpion look pretty great to me, though.

Simply amazing

Looks good, smells good, tastes good. i r8 8 out of 8 m8

The stuff looks much more crisp and has a pop to it.

They are alright but lack one feature that would make the game look significantly better in every single environment. Does that feature have a significant performance impact? No. What is that feature? Anisotropic Filtering (A texture filtering technique).

However for some reason 343i chose to forsake it and tried to improve their ambient occlusion and bloom effects which only improve the game in specific areas. Not only that but those features eat up considerably more power. If they need to use dynamic resolution they might as well have limited it to 900p to give extra headroom.

Here is an example of no filtering vs anisotropic filtering.

In my opinion they are just a bit better than Halo 4s graphics but still better than anything else they have made at this point.

Another point I can add concerns the explosion effects. Why is it that the explosions look pretty much like they did in H4? Ugly and unfitting.

H2A’s explosions are leagues ahead and would probably be a better fit. Dice’s explosions found in Battlefield or Battlefront are even better; these are however impossible due to technical limitations.

Talking about explosions, Just Cause 3 has hands down the best looking explosion’s I’ve ever seen.

I think environment looks better than it ever has before, but the characters look a little cartooney. But I’m going against your rule in your post because I’ve only seen Youtube videos.

Gamplay looks great, but I think the real showcase for the graphics is those beautiful cut scenes.

Haven’t played, but graphics are looking top notch.

I think that’s mostly due to the consistent art direction. the models themselves look more detailed to me

According to digital foundry it looks great, they sacrificed some eye candy to keep the 60 fps in game play but the cut scenes are amazing.

The one sore point is some animations…but besides that nothing but good things

to me it looks like you can see further. It’s like being nearsighted compared to having almost perfect vision

Not even blatant lack of decent anisotropic filtering? I made a thread a couple of weeks back and took some screenshots from a gameplay b-roll.

Somewhat I suppose. Due to the nature of texture rendering the textures are blurry unless using texture filtering. Good thing that modern hardware is really fast at implementing those techniques! Means 343i can use them, oh wait…

Here is another example
