What are the gameplay benefits of sprint in halo?

I know I’m beating a dead horse bringing up this topic but I am genuinely curious. What are the actual benefits of sprint for halo’s GAMEPLAY. I’m not talking about whether or not Chief sprinted in a cutscene or in a novel. I don’t want to be called boomer or fat and I don’t to hear from the marketing team of the fan base telling me halo “needs to get with the times and appeal to a modern audience.” I also don’t want to talk about how it allows for things like slide as a) I am aware of that benefit and b) that is an extra mechanic. Any mechanic can be cool if you just keep adding mechanics on top of it that rely on it. I’m just talking about the one mechanic and the cost benefit analysis of how it affects the rest of the gameplay. I am a classic halo fan but I don’t want to strawman the modern fan’s arguments as I know how that feels.

If anyone in this thread:

  • Uses ad hominins - Appeals to marketing demographics - Tells me that I just need to adapt - Or overall, just doesn’t address the gameplay questionI will just ignore you. Hopefully we can keep the conversation civil.

I presume the gameplay advantage is that it allows you to get around the map faster on foot. I don’t mind sprint but I would definitely prefer Halo without sprint. I thought Reach was a decent balance in how they used it.

I used to be one of the “oh it’s in the books etc”, but I really think it’s destroyed classic teamwork atmosphere that was most witnessed in Halo 3. Vehicles mattered more, and you moved slow enough where your team had to travel as a pack, and the gameplay was more centered around a team beating the other team at a certain location (the hill in Valhalla, or the gold lift in Construct.)

At the end of the day I don’t mind sprint, I just prefer when we didn’t have it, or when it was hybrid (Reach). I will always hate clamber and slide in Halo though.
