I’m confused as to what the visors are made from. It can’t be plastic because it would melt because of the heat from plasma weapons. I don’t think they would be made from glass because it would be too fragile to withstand the blast from grenades, mines, etc.

There is no specific material used in the production of faceplate, as each faceplate differs on a FDO’s preferences. Not to mention that there are multiple layers of varying elements that serve specific purposes in creation of the faceplate. However, it is acknowledged that the ones created before the end of the Great War were of durable alloys - specifically rare earth elements and “stragetic metals” (likely titanium, aluminum, tungsten, etc). But in the Post-War timeline, you had everything from high-tier nanolaminites to that obsidian-like substance that you find in the aftermath of a Glassing to composites (such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics).
Future-stuff. If nanobots that can completely restructure armor in cryo get to be a thing, future-stuff is a good enough explanation for MJOLNIR visors.
My bet would be that the visors consist of more than one layers. Glass technology has probably advanced somewhat from modern days, so I wouldn’t say glass as the base material is out the game. That said, it makes sense that they would do what we do with bullet proof glass these days which is to use layers of plastics and glass to get a rigid interior with a flexible outer layer and layers of plastic to keep the shattered pieces together. In addition, there’s also likely a layer of electronics for the HUD as well as an active layer to either decrease or amplify the intensity of ambient light. (Realistically, this would probably consists of two separate layers for amplifying and dimming.)
At any rate, the fact that the visor has to be transparent puts some limitations on what materials could be used. Any metals are out of the question because due to their good conductivity they’re completely opaque at any reasonable thicknesses. I wouldn’t bet on graphene either because its opacity is also exceptionally high.
I would assume heavily reinforced glass with electronics layers for the HUD and brightness control. According to the flavor text the Remembrance visor uses glass from glassed worlds for its outermost layer.
BUT, there is the question how they actually see through.
I mean, some helmets like for example GUNGNIR have no actual visor, just a little hole, indicating that they see through some cameras or something… but then, there are no visible cameras or anything similar. Also, Noble’s Six, Kat’s, etc. - many Spartans had cracked visor and it was shown how it is visible to their vision. Master Chief had a cracked helmet, but we didn’t see it in-game because many people would be annoyed to play the game with the cracked lines on the monitor/TV and would complain about it, right?

^this
Also, it would not only just be the visors Spartans’ have on their helmets, but also any other sort of glass the UNSC uses, like on vehicles, combat glasses, or the visors seen on ODST helmets and any other infantry helmets the UNSC Air Force, Army, and Navy use.

Well as we can see in the first ODST love action trailer, a plasma burn -Yoink- through it. So definitely not the same materials

The visors and glass the UNSC utilizes on their soldiers and vehicles are not impervious to weapons fire, no matter the origin. So the fact that a plasma bolt or whatever was able to puncture through the ODST visor means that the same thing could have occurred to a Spartan. We see this in Halo Reach with Noble Six’s visor during his last stand, and if I remember correctly, when Kat was shot through the back of her head, the Blamite shard punctured her visor as well. So, they would be made out of the same materials.

Fun fact Astronaut Visor are made of Gold Flakes/sheets with glass and some other thing so maybe same thing can be said for Spartans but not gold though

Pretty sure the shot just went in her head and out her chin without effecting the visor
