If I wanted to upgrade them, would they be classified as vehicles? Turrets? What?
Or when they attach, does it become based on that units type?

Quote from the Colony HCU:
“Skitterer units are mechanized scouts piloted by Lekgolo. They are cheap, expendable vehicles, and their twin-linked beam cannons are surprisingly lethal for a vehicle of this size. Their most notable feature is that they can use a defend ability to set up a protective overwatch on other friendly units and act as a weapon turret and defense shield, increasing the health of the attached unit as well as providing additional firepower. Most units can have at least one Skitterer attached, including infantry and aircraft. The defensive link cannot be undone during a mission.”
I would say they are still a vehicle once they are attached but if I am wrong please let me know.
Skitterers are technically vehicles. They said that Skitterers ‘act as a weapon, turret and defence shield’, so I would say they are still considered and behave as vehicles in gameplay when attached. You know, the grammar of it all.

At least they are not Terror Drones from CnC Red Alert 2.

They are classified as vehicles. You can use vehicle Symbiotes on them.

You can use symbiotes on air and turrets too.

I know the descriptions says it works on buildings, but from my experience, it doesn’t do anything to them at all.
Neither does it do anything to air units, but I don’t know if that’s intended.
When a Skitterer shot at my Shroud, he said infantry. Though 343 says vehicle.
My guess is the Skitt was attached to an infantry unit and shot the Shroud, so that’s why it said what it said.

No, it can’t be used on air. It will not allow you to cast it on them and when you do cast it over a vehicle as well as other air units - it doesn’t apply. It will cast on buildings/turrets because that is in the description, but the Skitterer is not a building. It is a vehicle just as 343 has described in multiple posts.

They’ve also described it multiple times as being a turret when attached. Which would be a building. /shrug
We need some data mining.

I guess in the vid doc Clay mentioned it was a turret with legs… But trust me - it’s a vehicle. Go have an anti-vehicle unit shoot it vs. an anti building unit.
They’re definitely vehicles. Symbiotes work on them, and the vehicle global upgrade effects them.
Though they’re unique in that Spartans cannot hijack them, but that makes sense considering what Skitterers are.
It’s a unit. Nuff said.

Wrong,
Its a mech scout.
They’re vehicles, but when attached to a unit they basically become that unit type. When a unit they are bonded to dies, the skitterers die as well.

Then how come when you select ‘all units,’ the skitterer shows up in the list? Total. Unit.

It doesn’t when it’s attached though. Must be a building.

By then it’s just an upgrade for individual units that costs unit space. Before then it’s a unit.
They’re classified as vehicles but won’t benefit from Vehicle Upgrades, jus like Protector Sentinels don’t benefit from Air Upgrades.
Rule of Thumb: Unique units (Sentinels, Skitters, etc) and Heroes don’t benefit from generic unit upgrades, but special units (Ghosts, Goliaths, etc) do benefit from generic unit upgrades.
