What are Halo 4's biggest issues?

What would you say the top 5 issues with Halo 4 are?

For example

  1. Lack of options for custom games.
  2. Networking issues.
  3. DLC never gets used.
  4. DMR is too powerful.
  5. Power weapons are too easy to come by.

1. Lag
2. Team Set-Up System
3. JiP (BIGGEST MISTAKE TO HAVE IN HALO 4)
4. Lack of Ranked and Social Playlist
5. Forge Island Limitations
6. Lack of Custom Game Options

  1. AA balance (weapons are being addressed, so won’t include that unless the rebalancing is poor)
  2. Lag
  3. No social / competitive split
  4. Rankings / progression
  5. No middle ground between Infinity & SWAT except throwdown, which was implemented too late such that it doesn’t - and won’t - have a high enough population for me to be matched with players of approximately my skill (or lack thereof)

But the inability to do custom controller layouts and separately adjust Y-axis sensitivity is personally the most troubling to me (though I’m not sure how many others share that sentiment).

  1. Incineration Cannon is extremely overpowered. Seriousy, a weapon that kills someone on the initial blast and then, on top of that, sends three heat-seeking missiles to kill others? Has no balance…

  2. Beam Rifle is extremely overpowered, as well. Make it 1 headshot = kill and 2 of anything else = kill. It was better in the older games when it was just a faster Sniper Rifle. Now, any moron can run around shooting people in the foot and arm with it, killing them.

  3. Grenades are extremely underpowered. Take very long to blow up and don’t have a realistic blast radius. I’ve seen two grenades blow up at my enemy’s feet and they still had frickin’ SHIELDS! Grenades definitely need a huge buff.

  4. Uneven teams when people leave lobbies. What I mean by this is, let’s say you have 10 people for a 5v5 game and 2 people leave. Now, you have 8 people, but instead of compensating for that and making it 4v4, it will make it a 5v3 game… really? Halo’s been out for 12 years with tons of games made by two different companies and they still haven’t figured out how to even out the damn teams before the game starts? OK, whatever.

  5. Needs more gametype options in the menu. Games like oddball should be part of the mix-and-match playlist, but also have its own playlist like older games. On top of that, they should program a Race gametype. If these 5 changes were made to the game, it would be the best Halo AND Shooter game…

1-3, I have a different perspective on those. However, I agree with 4 & 5. If the teams are uneven, the set-up team system should even it out. Game options as well

  1. Lack of Custom Games options + gutted Forge
  2. Core gameplay quality decrease
  3. Terrible UI
  4. Lacklustre Campaign (including dreadful Covie models, poor plot handling, generic music, etc.)
  5. Essentially everything to do with online Multiplayer, including dreadful maps, poor DLC handling, horrible gametypes, etc.

Instant respawns

halo’s biggest issue is that it wasnt stopped after halo 3 and that its going to turn into CoD Stupid story and stupid gameplay. Frankie O’Connor will tell us how great halo 5 will be but it’ll just be the same old reach with sprint and hopefully a 4 shot br if anything is going to go it will be loadouts/specializations

> Instant respawns

I have a question, i’ve heard a lot of complaints over that. Is it worse in 4v4 or in BTB, just out of curiosity?

Neither are really bad. In my humble opinion it doesn’t realy add or subtract anything good or great from gameplay. People are just butt-hurt about it cuz it’s “too much like Call of Duty”

  1. The DMR is too powerful. At this state, it can out-perform all the loadout weapons.
  2. Join in Progress. It’s just not Halo’s thing. You get thrown into bad losing games towards the end. It never works in the favor of the joiner it seems.
  3. Instant respawn. You’ll get those times where you kill someone and they instantly respawn and they come in for the instant revenge. Plus the “X” is implemented to stay on as long as the player is in the “killcam” so when they respawn instantly, that “X” is gone in an instant
  4. Death cams. They never work. They’re delayed and they seem to never really follow how you got killed. It’ll show the guy walking into a wall and firing and have the red reticle and that’s apparently how you died. It’s really pointless.
  5. Loadouts. There’s too much freedom. You can choose your primary, so you can choose the most powerful weapon in the loadouts to spawn with (DMR), your secondary, so you can just spawn with a plasma pistol for the EMP shot, grenade, so everyone can just spawn with stickies, and all that other crap that people have obviously abused in the past. That’s why the past Halos were deemed better, because you all spawn with the same stuff and you have to work to get another weapon or stickies or something.
  6. Armor Abilities. Obviously some aren’t bad, but there’s still Active camo, which is obviously abused by a large chunk of Halo’s players, and Jet pack, another terrible move. In reality, armor abilities shouldn’t be in.
  7. Sprint. It was okay-ish in Reach, but now that everyone has it and they also have the ability to choose mobility and have unlimited sprint, the game has turned into a “run away if any opposition is met” kind of game. With the implementation of shields and the extra kill time after the shields to kill the enemy, that gives them plenty of time to run away with their tails between their legs. No one really stays and fights 'til they meet their demise anymore. It’s always “Oh, Ima go and take this guy out” starts getting shot up and shields are half gone “Oh no! Gotta go!” sprints away, making an easy escape. It’s ridiculous.
  8. Ordinance Drops. It makes the game too easy to get power weapons, making the game extremely camper-friendly. You sit in a spot, rack up some kills, earn your ordinance, wash, rinse, repeat. Both personal and map ordinance were not very good.

That’s about all that I have for now for my list. As you can see, it’s mostly the newer stuff that was implemented in the game recently. I’m not saying I’m against change. I’m all up for the game evolving. It’s just what they put in and how it works. You see, really, none of this stuff works very well. If 343 can change up the game like Bungie did between Halo CE and Halo 2 and between Halo 2 and Halo 3, that would be good. The addition of good features that work properly as well as bringing back some older stuff from the original games would be excellent.

The only place I really notice it being frustrating is SWAT. For me, anyway.

Man I think BOTH, it does keep the game fast and intense but BTB is like a mad house with DMR’s and instant respawns, 4v4 is bearable but I wish it had team throwdown’s settings.

Alright.

I personally have no problem with Armor Abilities. I think they are all somewhat balanced, except for Promethean Vision. That’s just a pet peeve I have with any war game, though. I am always skeptical of an ability or power-up that lets you see where your enemy is at all times. There should be at least SOME limit to it. It has a huge radius and it detects people both running and standing still. It should have at least some drawback like, it can ONLY detect people running around not both moving and still people. The other AAs, though, I don’t really mind. Like I said, I think they all have some balance to them and you’re never forced to use ones you don’t like.

My main gripes would be, loadouts, ordnance both random and personal, instant respawn, weapon despawn time, sprint, and a small skill gap.

Its biggest issue overall is that its straying so far away from what made Halo “Halo”. Its trying to be something that its not, its trying to blend in with other FPS games instead of standing out.
