Yes, I know it is epic and I’m glad they made it (this isn’t a hate thread), but surely it is costing a fair amount to produce. I haven’t seen anything such as DVD’s or other ways to make money from it.

Pretty much this. It’s a great way to get new fans up to speed with the story before Halo 4 launches.
It is also to please existing fans who have always called for a live-action film/series.
It’s also an exciting new way to expand the series and set it apart from the rest of their competitors.
And behind it all, im sure 343 are just as much fans of Halo as we are. Im sure creating a kick–Yoink- live action series of their favourite game wasn’t a hard decision for them to make

It was a good idea and it also gives us something to see that is Halo related before Halo 4 comes out.
While I can see they are using it to create backstory for Halo 4, I hope the campaign doesn’t suffer without having seen it.
If Fud takes off like the Battlestar miniseries, it will make millions and create massive media/public attention to the halo universe.

Gets people interest in the Halo storyline in general, meaning more sales on the games.

Wishful thinking here, but if it does well enough it could be a good argument for a full movie!
they are gaining publicity…? forward unto dawn is essentially a giant marketing campaign.
343 is doing the most epic marketing for halo yet, though for some reason i haven’t seen any commercials yet? i’m guessing a majority of that budget went to FUD.
