Does anyone else find it frustrating that whenever it comes time to select a new Specialization we’re forced to decipher the absurd definition of each one given to us? I mean, really, the descriptions aren’t even close to what the Specialization even is. I get that they are trying to create a cool kind of description based on the lore of the gameplay, but come on. Not only are the descriptions competely obtuse and off base but the names themself are as well. I hate having to Google what they really are everytime before I decide. I chose just one to show as an example below. Sorry, just needed to vent this. Thanks.
Pioneer
“Spartan optimization for deployment into uncharted, hostile territory (such as uncolonized worlds or forerunner installations) for the purpose of gathering/relaying information.”
How I decipher it - some kind of ability that will allow me to gather or share more info in serious battle situations, such as advanced radar or enemy weapon information.
Actual ability - When earned it’s called Fast Track (not Pioneer) and earns extra XP points when equipped, allowing players to rank up faster.
I already seen the video telling what specializations did, so when I got the game I was already informed. But I see what you mean, though. They could’ve shown the real purpose of the specialization, instead of its background. We need to know what we’re about to spend our time getting XP for and if it’s really worth it.

^^ This was my point. I mentioned that it is annoying that I have to search the web for a proper definition every time. Just seems counterproductive and unnecessary to make us do that.

Ha. You’re really streaching for an analogy for that one. Besides, the Pioneer description says nothing about “Pioneering” through the ranks in the descriptions. Furthermore, it actually unlocks Fast Track which fits the actual ability. Why not just call it Fast Track to begin with?

Brilliant. So, we can’t just buy the game and play it. We have to creep WayPoint and Google for clairity to the game? Just makes no sense.

It does fit when you think about it.
It talks about being able to gather information and ‘experience’ efficiently and more effectively in alien worlds.
You level up faster because you’re specialised in gaining data and experience, which translates into EXP in the game.
But yeah, unless you’ve researched it, I do agree that it isn’t made clear at all.

You do know that the Waypoint community makes up about 10% of everyone, right? And 10% is stretching it.
Randy - “Ok, I hit SR 50, so what’s next? Oh snap, look at that, I can enlist in a Specialization now. Let’s see what that does.”
Randy looks at a Specialization description.
“Well… wait… what? Whatever, i’ll just choose Pioneer and see what that does.”
This is a prime example of 343i’s assuming to much.

Yeah ofcourse I realise, hence why I apologised and admitted it to being a false assumption.
I spent the majority of my time here on Waypoint during the years leading up to Halo 4. Thus nearly everyone you spoke to on the forums was well aware of everything and up to date with information.
However, post-launch, I stopped coming on here. I’ve only just returned and am not yet accustomed to the huge influx to new forum members.
Nice.
Honestly, I take my chances on the abilities that come with the Specialization based on the armor I want to unlock. Anything else that comes with it is a bonus.
They should’ve put more accurate descriptions for those who are choosing based on abilities, though.
