What about the Halo 5 Radar? Broken or Great?

I personally prefer games without the radar. With that said, the new radar is absolutely useless to me. The range is way to narrower. To make matters worse, everyone moves around like horses with their accelerated runs and jet packs. By the time I see a red dot on the radar, they are right beside me (sometimes because I am about to melee them or vise versa). The range needs to be the same as the previous halos or wider. Alternatively, just kill it off as it does not much value. A setting to remove the radar (pop up option maybe?) at the users discretion will also be nice. With the current layout, I see everyone with my eyes (not the radar).

I like the reduced range. Makes players think more strategically about stealth and ambush.

I believe it should be slightly wider. I didn’t experience it but apparently in the beta it was too large and too useful. I would rather too small than too wide but I would like to see it a little wider

Personally I am a fan of no-radar at all. But I know I am in the minority and I am a big proponent of compromise. One solution I have suggested is to increase the radar range for dramatic movements like sprint, Spartan charge, ground pound, slide and thrust. And to retain the current range for base movement speed, jump, and clamber. Maybe perhaps keep slide and thrust within the current range. Idk, it would need some field testing.

Overall, I think that would help balance the two spaces. Giving players time to react to sprint + Spartan charge. While still allowing for overall flanking opportunities.

Keep it as it is for Arena. Just upgrade the range for Warzone.

The range is great in my eyes, my benchmark is whether or not the sensor can track movement from one end of R2/B2 to the other on Truth. It can’t and is therefore the ideal size for me.

broken. with how quickly you can move across a map in this game with unlimited sprint, and using your thruster the range on the radar needs to be significantly larger. it’s current state makes it way to easy to sneak up on someone because of sprint, thrust and shoulder bash.

I like it the way it is, maybe have a slight red on the outer ring for people in the 25-18 meter zone like vehicles but smaller or less obvious. I guess like Destiny kinda. But I do like the shorter range cause I find myself looking around more than just watching that small blue circle.

I think it needs to go to about 20m for Arena rather than the current 18 or the Warzone 25 / 40 with the Tracker armour mod.

More importantly though, I play with a guy who has a specific form of colour-blindness that makes the current dimmed red dots for different elevations blend into the HUD colour, so it makes it even less effective for him to the point of totally useless.

I really enjoy the much more competitive style Arena but if does feel like the game has been so tailored to players after the hardcore experience that it’s left behind more casual Halo fans… Could use a more casual style playlist with more traditional Halo shields and weapon balances but the same movement capability plus a more focused core playlist with Breakout, Swat and probably a BR start slayer for those also asking after that. I’m really excited to see new maps and community forge maps too!

I like it based on how small the maps are, but it is too small to be useful. I say increase it to 20-22m. Also the speed with which an enemy moves across it is ridiculous. I’ve been in situations where the act of looking at my radar puts me in a vulnerable position, like it actually takes too long to move my eyes to and from it and by then I’ve already taken damage. I think it is good for tournament setting but we kind of need to tone it down for the public.

I pretty much only play swat, so maybe my opinion doesn’t matter much, but when I do play other game types it feels way to short. A slight increase in range would be nice

Its fine how it is.

It’s practically useless at the moment. Currently the only people the radar can catch are those about to hit you or those with shotguns. They need to increase the range quite a bit for it to be useful and match the effectiveness of previous games.

They have to make the range wider in Warzone.

Having a wider range would be nice, but honestly, I’m hear to adapt to the game, not adapt the game to me.

I’d vote making other changes considering that you now have three different speeds at which you can move. As such I’d make the normal walk speed no longer give off your position but the moment you sprint, your position is exposed on the radar. Why suggest this? Maps have been stretched out by sprint to validate the two design choices from a symbiotic conceptual standpoint. Walking normally is almost exactly like crouch-walking because you’re covering less distance than sprinting.

And please for the love of god bring the radar distance up again. Don’t micro-manage the game for the minority of competitive players. They’re not paying for Microsoft’s wallet.
