James Gregory Cutter has been changed for Halo Wars 2, his voice actor, his cinematic 3D model, all have been drastically changed for unknown reasons to the community. Me, along with many others agree this is a BAD change and shouldn’t have been changed originally, not only does this change how original Halo Wars player’s feel about Halo Wars 2, but also alienates us from the new sequel. This new man has taken the place of a beloved character, who we loved for his voice, character, and appearance, not some unknown younger captain. I would have honestly preferred Cutter to die, than be replaced by a younger, different man who literally is a shell of the once proud character we knew in the original game. Why not have someone take his place so we wouldn’t have to go through this idiotic change. I do not feel at home when I see this man, I only see another man I don’t know. I’ve heard people say BLUR did not enjoy his original 3d model, and I understand that, his original model did require work and updating on the face, but besides that, he could have been the same in the sequel.
How do you feel on this change, is it welcomed, is it a good change, or should this be changed as soon as possible? Please select a poll, and hopefully change will come.
I honestly don’t mind it too much because this is a BETA, so maybe all this is provisory, but the old Cutter was definetely better.
The Halo Wars community is such a tiny minority. The general public is vast and knows little about Cutter. Your voices are going to be unheard, lol. Halo Wars is dead, if you hadn’t realized. HW2 will introduce something new to the oblivious RTS noobs. But I prefer this Cutter, and this is coming from a Cutter Master player. The new style is very appealing to this new gaming generation.

While yes, to anyone who hasn’t played Halo Wars 1 or who just give no -Yoink-, it doesn’t matter and is a welcomed change. But to me personally, I despise this change with a passion.
Does anyone else not think he looks kinda similar to Gideon from Advanced Warfare?
I mean I know it’s annoying that they changed it, but it doesn’t really bug me too much.
I think he looks fine either way.
I’m really hoping that at least his voice actor is just a place holder. the Spartan from mp in hw1 really shouldn’t be cutters voice. It looks like the look is set in stone now though sadly, they have the cinematic trailer and stuff with him now
I wonder what everyone else is gonna look like now though… But I definitely agree. I would’ve prefered cutter to die instead of getting a redesign
edit: Saw someone’s comment about him looking like Gideon, and I thought he sounded like him too, so I looked it up and boom. Literally Gideon emery. rip

Not Gideon…
I’m with you 100 percent. Wtf do these people think? Imagine going to see empire strikes back and Darth Vader isn’t -Yoinking!- Darth Vader… It’s beyond my ability to understand.
I like the new look of cutter, but for continuity sake it doesn’t really make sense why they redid his look.
He was changed because that is what 343 specializes in. Putting their “artistic touch” on things that don’t need it and making it two steps worse in the process usually.
Info about the new Cutter and Anders in the community update.
> Q: Um, why do Anders and Cutter look different?
> A: Because they are different – for both casting and technical reasons. The first Halo Wars game, for all its glitteringly wondrous CG, contained characters that Blur essentially “made up.” They were effectively “hand drawn” amalgams of character, rigging and aesthetics. Those characters were created in 2008, using 2007 tech and they looked fantastic at the time. But since then, the industry has made geometric leaps forward in technique and technology and the trend, rightfully, has been towards proper facial and performance capture. The end result is much better immersion in the story and far more believable “people” because they are people – recordings of the performance rather than a simulation or cartoon of it.

> As we mentioned, the actors have also changed. Gideon Emery is our new Cutter, and as you can see from his headshot, we’ve very literally captured his exquisitely sculptured features, but grayed and aged him to match the game chronology and further, show the impact of war and time on his face. Faye Kingslee is now the actress now playing Anders, and you’re going to love her performance – while respecting the original character, she’s poured a lot of herself into this*.* And while we loved Kim Mai Guest as our previous actress for Anders, getting our schedules to jive was a challenge. We’re really excited to have both Faye and Gideon join the Halo family, and we can’t wait to show you more of the story and the amazing Blur cinematics in Halo Wars 2.

I don’t get this. Fantastic at the time? Try just fantastic period. I’d be perfectly happy with the same absolutely gorgeous cutscenes from Blur.
The old facial model has been replaced with a new more realistic one using improved facial recognition technology. Frankie said so himself. I’m not sure why they’ve made him much younger though.
Either way, some of the comments in here are silly over-reactions.
The game is aimed at the current xbox generation, most of which have never played Halo Wars and won’t realise the change.

Le capitaine Cutter dans Halo Wars 1 était mieux !
Why they re made Cutters look… Age? or simply better looking graphics create better looking models… Seriously stop hating on minor details
Don’t be so melodramatic, they explained it in a post in the news section. His face model in HW was made by hand, not using someone’s face so recreating that is very difficult and so they decided to use someone for motion capture (in this case Gideon Emery). Gideon is also a very talented voice actor so they used him for the voice as well give him a chance. Check him out in his role as Balthier in Final Fantasy 12.

Same actor, his name is Gideon Emery.
I don’t like it. I mean, the new model looks good, but he seems so much younger. Maybe there is a reason though. We just have to be patient. It is jarring though. I don’t, however, think it will affect my enjoyment of the game in the grand scheme of things.

It was explained in a recent update (see the post a few above yours).
He shouldn’t appear younger though - they aged the actor up to make him look the correct age according to the lore.
