The second disk is used for installing the War Games experience only, right? If that is so, then how are we supposed to install the Campaign from the first disk? Maybe I missed something, but I would really like an answer.
The second disk installs so you don’t disk swap to play multiplayer like in battlefield 3
There is a feature in Xbox to install disk 1 on the hard drive, brought out the same time as halo 3 but how to do it evades me.
The multiplayer install is just so you don’t have to swap disks. You can install the first disk if you want and this can be done from the dashboard.
Step 1) install disc 1
Step 2) install disc 2
Step 3) put disc 2 back in the case and never touch it again
Step 4) re-insert disc 1 and play halo 4
I think I get it now. You install the second disk in-game, then you can install the first disk on the Dashboard. Thanks guys!

Just remember to Launch from Game library to get the best from the Hard Drive, or else it launches normally and then there was no point in installing. Also you’ll need the disk in tray if that is the method you chose.

It makes no difference where you launch it from. Provided it’s installed, “play game” uses the harddrive too.
