As a disclaimer, I do not currently like the monetization system in Halo Infinite. I believe that it has been implemented incredibly poorly with customisation options like colours and armour being locked behind paywalls.
With that said, I understand that 343i need to monetize some acspects of the game since they decided to make the multiplayer free to play (another debate in itself). So, below I’ve made some suggestions on what 343i could monetize rather than armour pieces / colours.
HUDS - In Halo 5’s campaign, we got to see the HUDs of multiple Spartans. Whilst Chief had a very nostalgic HUD, Locke had a more futuristic looking HUD. Meanwhile, Buck had one resembling Halo 3 ODST and Vale had one which was Covenant themed.
New HUDS would allow players to personalise their Spartan further and find a design which goes with their playstyle. I’m currently using the Mark V [b} armour, so maybe a Halo reach inspired HUD would be great?
Announcers - Halo 5’s announcer packs were pretty well received. I’ve heard that 343i stated they would not add these, but honestly I can’t see why they wouldn’t. Plenty of players would be willing to buy some of these packs. Rather than just having Spartan Agryna, I’m willing to bet a good majority of players would rather have a different character talking to them.
Examples include, Lasky, Buck, SGT Johnson, Anders, Exuberant Witness, SGT Forge, Commander Palmer, Captain Cutter, The Arbiter, YapYap, Jun, Carter, Halsey or of course, Cortanna / The Weapon. You could even give out 343i guilty spark for those who beat devs in community playdates.
Things like Assassinations are a very easy thing to monetize too, however if they were locked behind the store that would be pretty annoying. Having them behind battlepasses and events however doesn’t sound too bad though.
Really just wanted to write down my ideas and see if anyone else has anything to add. Feel free to agree or disagree. In a ideal world, Halo Infinite launched complete and we wouldn’t need microtransactions. Unfortunately, 343i went with the free to play route. Might as well try to improve the system rather than continually complain.
