Alright so first off to all those people complaining, I want you all to understand exactly why 343 did what they did. MONEY. Every game company wants their game to make as much money as COD makes, so thats why every seemingly every FPS game copies some of what COD does.
Now on to the question at hand, “What 343 SHOULD have copied from COD”. Formula. Every freakin year theres a new COD, and it is essentially the same game every time. 343 wanted to make their own formula with Halo 4 so it could regain its thrown that COD took from Halo. Well 343 let me tell you this, the money making formula your looking for is right in front of your faces. It is called Halo 2 and Halo 3. Halo 3 had at least 100,000 people online all the time for 3 YEARS. If you guys wanted to go the COD route with Halo 4, you shouldn’t have copied the their stupid gameplay mechanics to get all the COD noobs to Halo (because their going to be gone next week anyway), what you should have copied is there strategy of not changing ANYTHING and you would be rolling in money and everyone would be praising you.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for innovation. But its pretty obvious all 343 wants is a money making machine like COD, so they should’ve just left Halo 2/3 alone and they would be bringing in the $$$$$.
And just incase you were wondering I am thoroughly enjoying my time with Halo 4(well… maybe just Slayer Pro), but I’m afraid that, unless they do some tweaking (and fix custom games), Halo 4 will die fairly quickly and I don’t want it to become the barren wasteland that was Reach.
I could go on and on analyzing the advancements of games, and tearing down CoD and how all elements of those games are borrowed from previous games as well.
It really doesn’t matter though, because what is boils down to:
CoD is successful, therefor if something has a feature CoD has: COPYCATS
Regardless, of CoD actually originally had said features first*
Examples:
Killcam
Loadouts
SPRINTING
Seriously, they changed a winning formula to pander to the lowest common denominator. Instead of trying to get CODs audience, why didn’t they just stick with the loyal one they had?
there’s no reason to copy call of duty, what many people dont realize is call of duty is successful not because of its successful formula but because it was a major market disruption when it launched, 1st it was a Modern day shooter in an industry dominated by WW2 shooters, 2nd it launched a year after the Nintendo wii console being an fps that appeals to the casual gamer, call of duty has no winning formula aside from cod4 being launched at a coincidentally perfect time and its marketing strategy being “saturate all media outlets and make the game look like its being played by everyone”
if cod4 was released a year earlier or a year later it would not be a powerhouse like it is now, its not worth copying any of its designs unless you want to push halo backwards

What a compelling argument you have there. The point me and others are trying to make is that most of these changes were completely unnecessary, and only serve to further dilute the FPS genre until everything is like COD. I may be running around as a spartan in multiplayer, but it sure doesn’t feel like Halo.

i refer you back to my prior statement
“if they resold H3 with better graphics you would have complained about that too.”
> No one is saying COD invented these elements, the industry is changing because of COD and that’s why we link these elements to COD.
That’s like heavily implying something and then denying
People link elements to CoD because they like to whine and hate game progression. It’s one thing to dislike the game for a direction it’s taken, it’s another to say they’re trying to ripoff/copy/turn into another game to steal their audience.
The obvious answer isn’t always the correct one, especially in videogame design

Of course people would have been upset. That game came out in 2007. It doesn’t really justify a remake, so I really don’t know what point you are trying to make. But if they did do it, I would at least be playing something that feels like Halo, not Call of Duty.

i mention this beacause no matter what is done to this game you people cant enjoy it you all have to complain about it.
it moves forward and adds features - wah it changed this isnt halo
it recycles the old “better” halos - wah its the same old thing
they cant win with you people. honestly this community is tarded sometimes.

No not really.
We want game progression but we also want the core gameplay that made us like Halo in the first place. Also stating negative criticisms=/= whining. Not liking the game’s direction because they feel like the gameplay was changed to appeal to a different fanbase is a valid reason.

I’m all for adding features and moving forward. What I don’t like is a radical change in core gameplay. This is no longer Halo.
