Well, I've done it...

I have completed my gold grind.
Customization 91%
Loadout 100%
Power weapons and vehicles 100%

I don’t really feel like i have accomplished anything, I feel like I don’t have a reason to play the game, other than for fun, of course. The game is still fun and i suppose i could still finish the commendations.

I don’t know if i was secretly expecting a better outcome or something more but… I feel a little disappointed. I thought i would be excited to open my last gold pack and finally be finished, it just kinda ended.

Here are my last two gold packs if anyone is curious

Second last gold pack
Last gold pack

Congrats man, I’m still working on mine and have quite a bit to go

Congratulations!

I finished my grind a few months ago. The main thing driving me right now is getting to SR 152, so there is that to aim for.

“I don’t really feel like i have accomplished anything, I feel like I don’t have a reason to play the game…”

This is why I ignore commendations, achievements, challenges, and rank grinds in general. I got my Inheritor in Reach because could and it felt meaningless. I wasn’t proud of it, and I wasn’t proud of a lot of the things I did to get it. It’s like these things, which are designed to add longevity to the game, just suck the life and the fun out of it instead.

You still have an XP grind

I have all weapons, vehichles, loadouts, and cosmetics that aren’t hidden behind a pay wall and I feel like I accomplished nothing, especially with a game and a company that I have little to no support for

*Clap clap

I’m like 3-5 packs away from finishing my grind. I’m not even bothered to boot up Halo 5.

The more I type, the more I’m motivated to launch Halo 5

Then what are you waiting for? Get those last items out of the way!

Nice job man… now just keep up the CSR grind and clip hunt. That’s what has always brought me back to Halo…

Pulling off a sick play was always way more rewarding than opening REQ packs. Your REQ balance is about to get real high too… I’m just shy of 1,000,000 points lol.

Played 3 games of BTB and lost :frowning:

But hey! I open 1 gold pack and I’m like 4 left to finish my grind.

And this is one of the many things wrong with this generation of gaming, players shouldn’t play games just to get a jumbled mess of coding, you should play a game because you enjoy it (Dark Souls being the exception lol) I remember playing games and just getting a simple “you win” screen, sometimes it wasn’t even spelled correctly.

Congratulations! Now onto the 152 grind.

Agreed, although it isn’t the fault of the gamers (not saying that’s what you mean). Games these days offer these intense grinds that give players a sense of working towards a goal, with sprinkles of meaningless content along the way to keep you enticed during the journey, only for you to get to the end and realise that the end content is exactly the same as the content that paves the long and arduous road. Players these days are rewarded for soaking time into things, not for pulling off amazing feats or actually accomplishing anything, and because of that, they’re just not as fun or as engaging.

I really think we need to see the return of the Road to Recon, where there are a few armours and helmets and whathaveyou that you unlock by completing devastatingly difficult feats that most players won’t be able to do. Then you get a piece of armour that you can wear with pride because you earned it through your own volition, not by soaking 150 hours into the game. That’s why I’m not a fan of Achilles, which is just a grind-fest. There’s nothing impressive about the commendation besides the high number you have to reach.

While I agree that they need to bring back armor that is unlocked through actually accomplishing things, I do like having commendations and the like. I have 100% commendation completion, but I still play so it’s not like I don’t enjoy the game. Having little goals like that just gives me something to work towards while I play a game I enjoy.

Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with commendations and small goals to hit along the way, but it shouldn’t be the only thing you can work towards. If the game had several different ways of unlocking armours (packs, commendations, spartan companies and Vidmasters) then we’d see more content for people to aim for, and a more diverse selection of content. And the beauty of it is that the devs wouldn’t even need to change or add to the game, just make challenges within the game, like earning an overkill with Sniper headshots while standing on top of a Phaeton or something.

That’s pretty much how I felt about Halo 5. I wasn’t having fun with the game for months, but I still kept playing due to the false feeling of reward of finishing my REQ grind. As soon as I finished, I realized that I really didn’t enjoy the game, and would rather be doing other things instead. I kept trying to come back, but after a match or two of matchmaking, I would stop. Custom games added some nice variety, but after a while people just played the same small handful of games.

Sure, there’s the XP grind, but I couldn’t care less about my Spartan Rank at all. Again, it’s just a meaningless number.

Congrats Mr. B. The fact that you stayed this long and finished your grind is an accomplishment. Not just for you but for the rest of us that are still grinding and have someone in the game queue to play with.

That being said, I understand completely how you feel. H5 is disappointing for me as a longtime Halo player for so many reasons when it could have been much much better.

Congrats on completing your REQ grind OP!

With that said, I completely sympathize with you. The game is indeed still mostly fun for me but I too don’t really feel like I’ve accomplished much of anything after opening up my last gold REQ Pack despite there still being the SR152 grind left to do…

Although I agree with having rewards for completing feats, however I’m not a fan of being rewarded armor or emblems and this is due to the problem of people wearing the armor or emblem not necessarily because they genuinely like it or think it is cool but because they just want to show it off, that normally wouldn’t really be a problem but just like when Hyabusa became easily obtainable after new achievements were added it became watered down and the Spartans started to become less diverse, the same happened to Recon and will eventually happen to Achilles, mind you I’m not saying any of those armors are not cool, I wear the Achilles helmet and the Apollo emblem because I genuinely like them, if I didn’t I wouldn’t wear them like the Achilles body.

I know its an unpopular opinion amongst us classic Halo fans but I prefer the credits or the req style of unlocking armor because because it breeds diversity, we just need full customization and classic style armors and I believe we are set in that department.
