Note: Definitely not trying to start a COD vs. Halo war, I’m just pointing out an observation and my thoughts about it. Please try not to start any fights.
I guess in the end it was inevitable, but there’s still a part of me that died on the inside when I saw what had occurred…:
Black Ops 2 has surpassed Halo 4 in preorders for the Xbox 360 alone.
It’s sad to see that a game like Halo 4, which has had so much dedicated work put into it based on what we have seen graphically, aesthetically, gameplay-wise, and content, is being surpassed by the likes of COD which has imo nowhere near as much work being put in.
But you know what, let those COD fanboys have their fun. I’ll be playing Halo 4 and I’ll be sticking with it all the way (or at least until Halo 5). The population doesn’t make the game and with the population that is generally associated with COD (-Yoink!- and prebuscent boys), I’m sort of glad COD’s fanbase stays where it is. Halo’s always had the more mature audience despite COD supposedly being more “realistic” and “war-like”.
Don’t get me wrong, COD is overall fun if you get through it’s kinks and downsides, but I’ve always held Halo in a much higher regard because of its quality. I just don’t feel that COD should be getting the attention and sales that it consistently gets.
Still…It kind of kills me that it seems like COD will once again outsell Halo…D:
Let them have their copy n paste franchise. I don’t care if it outsells Halo because Halo 4 has been in production for three years and has had major improvements to the sandbox.
> I honestly have no idea why anybody would care about those stupid pre-orders.
>
> Who the hell cares? And by the way, I haven’t pre-ordered it yet, I will in november.
Well preorders indicate the hype surrounding a particular game. So if a game has a high amount of preorders, then that means it is highly anticipated.
I haven’t preordered mines yet, but I will soon too.
Also like I stated in my original post, the sales of the game doesn’t matter. After all, the sales don’t make the game or its level of quality. Despite all of it, I still get a bit down when I see how it is. I mean, don’t you?
It’s because Halo 4 has no hype, nobody wants to preorder it because they don’t even know what it is, Black ops2 has has live event coverage on the 360 dashboard, youtube and TV ad’s, trailers once every 2-3 weeks, and loads of info every week, Halo 4 has a weekly bulletin that is exclusive to WAYPOINT (a place where only Halo fans live) so people outside of the Halo fanbase have almost no idea Halo 4 is even coming out November 6th, i was playing with an old buddy i used to play Halo 3 with, and he didn’t even know that Halo 4 was coming out!
Acutally, CoD’s fanbase is loosely made of people from all age groups. What defines them as a demographic is their fear of Middle-Eastern culture and an overzealous opinion of their input in regards to society. As such this results in many people thinking they’re hot Yoink while in fact they are kings of a bland propaganda campaign. Halo 4 is not about shooting ‘terrorists’, so its sales will suffer in relation to games that are.
Just because a game gets more pre-orders or sells more does not make it better or that Halo 4 will be terrible. Halo 4 will still be very successful and thrive for the rest of the series.
To put it into perspective; Blops2 is like an action movie. It’s very entertaining to go to but you don’t necessarily go see an action movie and expect masterpiece of story, writing etc… (Not to put the CoD franchise down, I like that series as well) I’d compare it to Transformers, a high budget action movie that you pretty much just go to see explosions and crazy stuff.
Halo’s series, to me at least, is more of an epic. Something on a more grandeur scale, like LOTR but sci-fi. You get lost in the story and the universe that it is taking place in and marvel at the environments, the look and feel.
That’s how I feel at least. Sorry for the horrible analogy using movies
