And that wasn’t very long… Here I am barely 2 weeks out from release and this game has become mind numbing. Seriously… There are a few reasons as to why I’m leaving halo. Black Friday comes and I’ll be trading it in for a fat amount of instore credit. Why? This is why.

  1. 343 -Yoinked!- this game big time. This is NOT Halo at it’s core. It’s Call of Duty With shields, low gravity jumps, and a crappy join in progress system. How can someone actually think this would settle with a majority of the fan base? Last time I played halo was Reach, which I only liked one thing that came from that and I’ll touch on that soon. I used to avidly play Halo CE on PC… hell even modded it, got myself in touch with Sparkedit. Then halo 2… and then 3. All great games, very balanced, competitive games. I believe Halo 3 was the first to get as much attention as it did… hell I remember every time I walked into a walmart, there master chief was on the front of a giant mountain dew bottle, it was insane! But this is not Halo, not anymore.

343… you did an awesome job with the campaign, you humanized one of my favorite video game heroes, he actually talks now, outside of half sentences in very few cut scenes, and even with not being able to see his face, you can still sense his emotion, so props to you for that, campaign was amazing.

Multiplayer on the other hand… holy crap. WHAT HAPPENED? I’ve played Call of Duty, used to be a huge fan but will not be going back to that mess ever. Also played quite a bit of Battlefield, along with Halo. Those 2 are my favorites.

Reason #2

RANKING! Can anyone agree with me that ranking up in most multiplayer games is what keeps you coming back? That sense of accomplishment and satisfaction of seeing how much you earned each match for kicking -Yoink-? Its great imo… I love it. But it’s COMPLETELY POINTLESS IN HALO 4! COMPLETELY! Why? This is why.

Level 1 First Match- Slayer, 1st place- xp rewarded: 2981… I believe i ranked up twice from that one match.

Level 34 Many matches later… many… Slayer, 1st place… xp rewarded: 2981… WHAT?! Are you serious?! but there’s more…

Level 34 same day slayer 3rd place, negative KD… xp rewarded: 2800… WHAT THE -Yoink-!?

Where is the sense of accomplishment when each match has an xp cap? meaning that I’m only getting a couple hundred more points than the guy that sucked 3 places under me? That is ricockulous. I don’t understand where this makes any sense whatsoever. Who’s ever idea this was, tell him to quit bringing his crack pipe to work. What makes this even worse, is there is an xp cap per day, so removing this cap per match, would only cause an even worse problem, then you’d be getting 5-6000 points per match, meaning you’d only reach the DAILY cap that much faster. Also, what’s the point of playing spartan ops on legendary difficulty if I get rewarded more playing on normal? Leveling is severely screwed here. On top of that… Armor. That was the one thing from Reach that I mentioned earlier… The fact that you had to level to unlock all the armor… but then buy it with hard earned credits… Now all you have to do is level. Everybody gets all the armor no matter what, and don’t even say that if you complete some of those ridiculous commendations gets you something special and different… I love the EVA helmet… just got the EVA BRCH for completing “Hail of Death” Master… and guess what?.. it has striped… Holy crap that gave me a woody…

Reason #3

Balance balance balance. This is why Betas shouldn’t be extinct… If we had a beta for this game, most of the kinks, overpowered weapons, and glitches would have never been such a problem, I feel like I paid $60 to beta test a game… this is beyond me, I don’t understand how a company with the rights to such a famous name could screw this up so bad… The DMR is the new sniper rifle… The Assault Rifle? What Assault Rifle? Oh you mean the Assist Rifle? Hur hur hur hur… This game is the most unbalanced piece of garbage I’ve ever played. Do I use the DMR? Yes I sure as hell do, because it’s only the most unintelligent thing to whip out a BR… you’re signing your own death certificate.

So with these reasons… I bid Halo farewell. To those of you that enjoy it, by all means, enjoy. I will not rip on you for enjoying a game you have fun playing. I just don’t understand why most developers nowadays are doing this, morphing best sellers to be like other best sellers in efforts to outsell. Don’t do that… Just bend to your fan base, you’ll have the most famous game ever doing that. This is not a Troll thread, this is not me vying for attention… this is just me speaking my piece, and saying farewell. Enjoy Halo for what it is folks… Goodnight.

I must agree with the EXP section you did. If you +15 you get 2.9k. You get -5 you still get 2.9K. Either raise what you get for carrying the whole team or lower what you get for sucking.

Add to that, dodgy multiplayer and it’s a messy old cake.

OP I’m going to agree with you on all aspects and especially the XP per game, its stupid to think I can come bottom with 1 for 20 and still get 2500XP because i’m in a winning team, this makes NO sense to me and tbh I would get 2000xp for being on the losing team lol. The XP system must have been an oversight by 343 because no body would create such a pointless system and rewarding players when rewards are not due.

However I’m still enjoying the game and will continue to do so, but i’ve gave you a Thanks anyway :slight_smile:

I have played halo for over 6 years now, it’s very special to me, I’ve read all books, some twice and I follow the cannon very closely. And Halo will always be the game for me. But I find myself agreeing with the premise that 343i has dropped the ball here.

The combination of power weapons from ordinance, ability to spawn with any weapon you choose including plasma pistol and stickies and instant respawns does degrade the game for me.

As you put it, COD with shields seems about right. With the accuracy and rate of fire, you can be dead in about 1.2 seconds from 2 people, and I have never had that issue with anyone ever in any Halo game.

The best thing 343i could do is make Halo 2 remake for next gen console with a stand alone matchmaking just to see the reception of a more linear game that’s truly an arena style shooter.

But as it stands now, I will keep playing it, though probably not nearly as much.

I’m not being cynical here, but hopefully Bungie remakes the core essence of Halo’s matchmaking in their next game.

To all those here who claim this is CoD with shields… i have never disagreed more with ANYONE in my life.
Do you know how i tell Halo and CoD apart? CoD gets boring after 2 games, Halo doesn’t.
Halo 4 is far from boring and i think thats some people on the forums feel like they are so entitled that a game is bad as soon as a feature they want is gone. Im sorry but it doesn’t work that way.

  1. Beta’s are expensive and the feedback can and does break games (Reach)

  2. 343i are quickly fixing things week by week and keeps us regularly updated (unlike DICE with BF3)

Some of the vets on here (im a vet, but i love this game) need to understand something, you are NEVER getting the past experiences in Halo back again… NEVER. Deal with it, Halo 2 style multiplayer will cause a huge loss in support from potential buyers and new fans alike. You see the online figures? They’re far stronger than Reach’s and they will continue to rise.

Halo 2 was Halo 2, if you prefer that, then go play that and stop coming here and labeling Halo as CoD, because that WILL NOT get you the change you so dearly wish for.

What is with you “good day” people and not defending your opinions. Argue, state your opinions, share evidence. Most people who believe Halo 4 is horrible don’t wanna believe it but every time we put our disc in we are drowned in a constant reminder of a sad reality and what should and could have been.

I’d be satisfied if 343 at least acknowledged that the game isn’t finished or gave dates for patches.

What really urks me is that they seem pretty focused on catching xp farmers (when it’s so easy to gain IT!) rather than focus on core halo features such as FILESHARE, F-O-R-G-E, so people who bought the regular edition would have something to do when we max. Which they made so easy to do…

A: 343 is a NEW company, most new companies start out at the bottom. Granted they have come from a well known company, this is their first game as a new company. GIVE THEM SOME TIME… two weeks and you want a miracle. Last I checked no game was perfect, flawless, amazing to the point you humped your t.v.

B: Nothing is original, just tweaked to seem original.

Apart from issues that haven’t been mentioned here, you obviously just repeated known topics. I found these changes to be a long time coming, and will be eating my turkey dinner tonight thinking I am thankful this was not another call of duty.

Actually the majority of the community likes this game, the people on this forum are a small portion. If you want to leave Halo that is fine by me but you have to give the game more time, 343 is trying to fix the problems.

Yes 343 is a new company… A new company that consists of members from Bungie, Infinity Ward and I’d assume more talent from other studios. When a new studio takes on the role of picking up where the last left off, you’d expect the game to be as good as the last. This is a AAA Title not some Indie game that 2 College students made.

If 343 made a new IP as their first title and it was as bad as H4, no one would defend them blindly. But because they are a new studio making and their first game is Halo 4 it is now okay for them to make the worst Halo of the series?
