i used to play a lot of CoD MW2, Black Ops and MW3. In MW3 i even went competitive and got into the german esports scene, joined a clan, competed in tournaments and all that.
Before that i played a lot of Halo 3, so Halo always comes first from me. I just had to switch to CoD when Reach annoyed me at the beginning.
So, as a Halo player that has played so much CoD aswell, i was of course happy to see the Fighstick button layout. Because since i was so successful in CoD, i actually saw that as a valid option to use.
But here’s the thing.
On the fishstick button layout, B is for crouch and Right Stick is for Melee.
And of course i’m aware that that resembles the default layout on CoD.
But not every player on CoD uses that.
In fact, most people who play CoD on a competitive level use the control sheme where B is for melee and Right Stick is for crouch.
And for those players, if they want to compete on the same level in CoD, it would be way better if Halo 4 also included a 2nd Fishstick option where melee and crouch are flipped.
I, as someone who wants to play competitively, can definitely say that i’d love to see this button layout.

They cant make a layout for evey single player, like you can do on PC. All those other “non-fishstick” player should adapt
I’m getting really sick of the whiny “you’re immature if you play CoD” or “If you like CoD you’re most likely 12” statements. Seriously, people act as if “immature” people don’t play other games…There’s plenty of younger people on Halo and Battlefield too.
Of course i know that they can’t make the layout for every single player.
Just like they can’t let people make their own layouts because then there would be too many BXR combos, even though i haven’t really seen BXR being utilized since Halo 2.
But see it this way. I’m not the only person who played CoD competitively. CoD competitive gaming is BIG right now. And i’d just guess that at least 95% of competitive CoD players use the button layout i suggested.
I’ll just guess that 343 made the fishstick button layout to make Halo more attractive for CoD players. But in that move, they shouldn’t overlook all the competitive ones.

Why must some of you people quote the original post?

BXR = Boxer amiright? A lot of my friends use boxer
OT: Me, also being a cod player, always use the defauld cod layout. Most people use the default layout, the 95 percent of yours is perhaps 95 percent of all MLG players. Classic players use default (most of them)

Welcome to the forum iTz Vplus2! Players from any and every game are welcome. I personally think developers should let players customise their control buttons to anything they want.

BXR was a button combo used in Halo 2 that caused a glitch where the Player’s would melee, then reload, which would cut off the animation, and then he could shoot immediately after.

I always kind of wondered if there was a reason we couldnt do this. Is it hard to implement?

I don’t necessarily have a problem, it’s just an annoyance when you must scroll down the same exact and fairly long original post to see a reply.

No, BXR is a move from Halo 2 where you hit B to melee, then immediately hit X to reload and cancel that melee and then hit R to shoot. You could get really quick kills that way.
That’s the thing though, 343 said they don’t let people do their own button mapping because there would be too many BXR combos. But BXR was Halo 2. Not Halo 3 and not Reach either. So i don’t even know how that’s supposed to be a valid reason. But that’s not what this thread is about, so let’s keep that discussion for another time.
And you played CoD with the default button layout, but then you probably didn’t compete in leagues and play it on a competitive level, wether it be GameBattles or somewhere else.
And that’s pretty much what i was talking about, even in the title.
With the fishstick button layout they welcome casual CoD players like you, but not the competitive ones.
I didn’t realise 343’s job was to accommodate every single COD player through a -Yoink- of control schemes. If they can’t adapt then they shouldn’t be playing.
personally, I’d prefer you stayed away from Halo, I’m not trying to be nasty or anything but what you consider a good game I consider a bad game.

Relax competitive CoD is not like Pub CoD. Pub Halo in Reach is pretty noob as well, so many people think Halo is a “Slow-paced” game just because most people play BTB or their first experience is AL/Camo starts on Sword Base. H1+H2 were on the other hand not like the new Halo’s in terms of pace, defensive abilities, kill-times and maps on a competitive level.

Actually, i was a Halo player long before i played CoD. I mentioned in the OP why i switched to CoD initially.
And about the “every single CoD player” …i also said something about that in one of my previus posts. It’s not like there is only a handful of people who play CoD competitively. Or an insignifficant amount of people. There are lots because CoD is also really popular in the esports scene.
So since 343 want to attract CoD players, that 1 simple button switch would attract all those competitive players who are interested too.

Halo reach had ther BXR combo too, but it is slower
Like I said i was a casual player. But I think by adding a casual CoD layout, they have done enough.
I think all CoD MLG player can also use the default CoD layout

Finally a post that isn’t so much a thread of hatred towards 343i and Halo 4.
However, as the above quote says.
Those players will have to ‘adapt’. I play Call of Duty from time to time when I have nothing better to do and I use the standard CoD layout, then when I go back to Halo, I just have to remember which game I’m playing and use the default Halo layout.
You could use the same argument with over shooter games anyway.
> Halo reach had ther BXR combo too, but it is slower
> Like I said i was a casual player.
You may be right with that, but i’ve literally never seen it utilized. And i did play a fair amount of Reach too, my rank on Reach is Legend. During all the Reach games i played and Reach footage i’ve seen, i’ve not seen the BXR combo utilized even once.
So as i said, i don’t see how that’s a valid reason for not letting people customize their button layouts. And this is a reason 343 have actually stated.
But as i also said, that discussion is for another thread, another time.
