So me and a buddy live less than a mile from each other, our neighborhoods back up to each other actually, so lets say a 10 min walk, maybe 10-12 blocks between us.
We both have the Cox Gigablast Internet, both get decent speeds, 900 down 900 up etc…the Xbox gets a little less than that actually, 800 down 700 up “ish”.
Ok when we play solo multiplayer we both do well, he’s gotten as high as a diamond 6 before but hovers in the high platinum ranks lower diamonds, same here, but I’ve not been that high, he’s a little better than me. Anyway ranks don’t matter, we just play Quick Play now, so I don’t know if ranks go into how it finds players or not in QP? But thats off topic too, because the deal is when we are solo, both get really good scores, games are usually lag free, games feel pretty good latency wise. When solo, when we team up, him being the leader or me, one of us usually gets really bad latency/lag. Usually its just a matter of our shots aren’t hitting or we are just a few m/s behind enough to where we lose a LOT more battles 1v1 etc, where if we were solo we are on fire etc…its just odd, only when we are teamed up.
I don’t know what our networks are being we live so close and are on the same ISP, probably on different hardware outside the home, or maybe not. I wonder if anything like us going through the same OTN with Cox would make us hinder each other when we play together? Or even if not on the same Cox hardware outside the home, you would think us being that close together our latency’s would not be bad that it would cause one of us to be bad in the games. I don’t know if the leader of the fireteam is called “host” or not now days? But it seems if I’m running the fireteam he does bad and has the slight off gameplay and vice versa, so I’m really just lost why when we play together one of us is hurting the other.
I know this is kind of broad and out of or realm of knowledge from gamers minds, but figured I’d ask to see if anyone else experienced it. I hate not being able to play with my friend, but when I do I’m usually frustrated cause my game play is so god awful.
Whenver you party up, chances are you are going to go up aginst those that are more skilled then you to balance you playing as a team. So probably just a coincidence?

I understand that part, we are used to playing high diamonds and occasionally an Onyx or two, and I can definitely tell who they are from the others, they have those higher qualities, so I know when I’m beat by a higher up. But its the normal players more my skill level and the difference in what shots land with them when I’m solo vs. with my friend. Its a night and day difference even if only tiny bit off. It also didn’t used to happen that way, we’ve had lots of games in the pas where we both were top on the team, but now its like we’re both the bottom two or he’s top and I’m last place or vice versa. Just odd. It may be coincidence but man it just seems off.
If I’m understanding your issue right I have been seeing the exact same thing. My buddy is 30mins away from my house, same isp and every other game is horrible lag/hit registration. We rarely get a night where both of us are lag free during the same game.
The last couple of nights its literally been every other game being fine/laggy/fine/laggy/fine/laggy…so frustrating. I literally go 55-70% accuracy to 35-45% every other game when this is happening or I get 60%+ acc and have a negative kill count, using xbox capture I can see the cursor is red/right on them but no hit… From about Feb-mid july everything was fine but its been awful the last month or so.
We’re both upper midwest, where are you located? Just wondering if maybe they shut down a halo server close to us recently and having to connect to a further away datacenter is causing this lag spikes.

Exactly the same, so weird, we are located in Oklahoma City. Yes we both have NAT open, we have great internet connections, gigablast is awesome, again, when not partied up with him, it seems great, though I am seeing a LOT of Mexican servers/hosts/players, with or without him, its less an issue when I’m solo.

I am 3 hrs north of you and do see the same thing from time to time. It has gotten really bad just before the servers went down. Seems better now.

Last night was awful, felt like my guy was walking through mud or water or something with very heavy aiming, had to bump up my sensitivity to compensate. I tracked a couple of games to see where my xbox is connecting to a few nights ago and it appears to be either central or north central azure datacenters where they have the game hosted.
23.101.166.125 azure north central (illonois)
13.89.46.201 - azure central (iowa)
65.52.13.121 - azure north central
157.55.142.43 - azure north central
My latency is between 35-60ms and that doesn’t appear to be the issue. Just wish I could get this lag/hit registration issue sorted out, halo is the only game I have any issues with and unfortunately happens to be my favorite

Try something for me as it appears to help for a while.
Press the Xbox button to open the guide. - Select Settings. - Select All Settings. - Select System. - Select Console info & updates. - Select Reset console. - Select reset saving games and apps. - You will have to sign back in to your acct after this completes but I thought it was well worth it.

lol, why would he want to do that? Are you trying to be mean? What good does that do?

Can you tell me how you tracked your Xbox and what it connects to, I’ve always wondered which Azure servers it connected to.

It keeps all of the important stuff and gets rid of all of the un needed installation files, kind of like a defrag on computer.
