i dunno why all the halo tv show threads are in the infinite threads but oh well, heres some of the dumb bullcrap i thought was dumb
-that human villain literally had 2 seconds of screen time and i feel like i can already predict her entire character. i also cant stand her already, so good job 343
-the plot sounds a lot like mass effect 1, which would be cool for mass effect, not halo
-chiefs armor looks like garbage, i also couldnt tell which voice in the trailer was even supposed to be him
-i dont think cortana looks as bad as people say she does, but she still looks pretty bad
-i cant believe, but at the same time im not surprised at all that they literally went for the most mocked trailer trope of usin an edgy cover of an 80s song. the funniest part is that halos ost is really iconic, but they just decided not to use it
-why are the elites grey, i thought it was an arbiter at first
-why is there a 2001 car lmao

I’ll reserve my opinion of the show itself for when it releases. As for the trailer, seeing a Tahoe in the background had me dying in my seat lmao

dont forget about the aks

The AK-47 was more believable than the Chevy, since other real-world weapons (namely the MP40 and a Desert Eagle) have appeared in other canon material, but it was still pretty jarring.
yknow it could actually work if they were like, i dunno in some kinda museum for stuff from the 21st century, but it looks like theyre just on some desert with terrorists. why would those guys in that place have tons of 500 year old stuff thats probably worth tons at that point

So many things in this series is just gonna make the fanbase cringe
I didn’t like that they portrayed the series as a drama series. It’s supposed to be an adventure packed with comedic timing. It needs to be a big-budget 3 part film on par with LoTR. - although, I say the same thing for Masters of the Universe which hasn’t happened yet either lol

if they just adapted halo ce with some added lore stuff either from the books or stuff they just made up id be fine with that

Woah! Never saw that. What material are you thinking of? Seems like a whole lot of artistic license.
Considering the current state of older firearms, a 500 year old AK seems crazy. I suppose there are enough of them out there that one is probably preserved under ice lol.
Civilians used MP40s and M9s in the invasion of Mombasa, and desert eagles are seen in Shadows of Reach. Fred even mentions that the rusty hand cannon belonged in a museum.
But it’s not too far fetched to believe that the UNSC doesn’t make their state of the art weapons widely available. So civvys and colonists are left to scavenge through the remnants of the past.
Fun fact. The band Queen is also canon.
okay but thats like sayin terrorists from our time should use muskets
Alright. I’m pretty sure the MP40 was just speculation in the source I was referring to, but the Desert Eagle was legitimate. Here’s the weapon’s halopedia page.
htt ps://www.halopedia.org/Desert_Eagle
If you don’t want to read the page and just want me to get to the point? It was in Shadows of Reach.
If it’s all they had available, I’m sure they would. I’m sure you’ve seen some of the primitive and haphazard bomb makers?
But as far as live fire munitions go, they have them in droves. Desert Storm and Desert Shield funded and supplied foreign countries with weaponry in order to secure oil negotiations with our allied nations. We gave them a literal -Yoink!-ton. So much to the point that they were literally burying crates of guns in the ground because there was so much overstock.
Terrorist sects then excavated those weapon caches for themselves, and a lot of weaponry was also purchased from the foreign governments when the conflict began to settle for a bit. Not to mention war profiteering.
The MP40 and M9 were from a graphic novel. And although they are not specifically mentioned, they are illustrated pretty clearly.

yup yup, I do remember that. Interesting cross over idea. Someone above mentioned that mp40s and M9s were in the defense of mombasa (I think it was just artistic license taken in the graphic novel or something)

I think that Fall of Reach, First Strike, and Ghosts of Onyx all established other “older” firearms as canon (I think they referred to the MA3,) and it was being used by insurrectionists. This late into the covenant war, we’ve also established that plenty of militias etc have access (legally or illegally) to military grade hardware (Like the militia guys in Halo Reach.)
One would think that “terrorists” in the canon would use some of the much more modern firearms that are already established in the series, or some of the older warthogs or military trucks that exist in the canon. Them using an AK in the TV trailer comes off as either lazy or misguided. My guess is that it (and the 2001 Chevy Tahoe) were just much cheaper than actually making props.
It’s also important to remember that this is all speculation based off of one TV trailer. We don’t know much about the entire plot of the series yet, whether or not it be a outer rim colony, insurrectionists, or what have you. I don’t think it’s fair to write it off immediately it’s just cheap production quality, as we can also see from the trailer that they do have modernized UNSC weaponry, there are warthogs, and a variety of other things that tie it all together. Not to mention, that with this being a entirely different timeline, we could all just be completely wrong.
AK’s are extremely easy to produce weapons, yet really reliable. Its why they’re so common among guerilla forces. The gun itself is unlikely 500 years old, was quite likely made recently.
Its important to remember that outside of spartans most UNSC infantry tech isn’t really remarkable compared to what we have to today. Given that the AR still uses NATO rounds, an AK is likely still a credible weapon.

I mean sure, the tech they dreamed up in 2001 isn’t really impressive compared to modern standards, but as I mentioned in the comment two above this, there are quite a few weapons established in canon as being outdated by 2552 but that would better fit the Halo aesthetic than an AK. It is just really really hard for me to imagine that this wasn’t just an economical decision about props. Making a prop of an older rifle that exists in canon but hasn’t been visualized would be a lot more investment than just using what they have in stock and adding some random crap to it, which seems to be what they did.
How do you feel about the Chevy Tahoe? It’s crazy to imagine the effort it would take to keep one of those running for 500 years, so by 2552 they would much more likely be in a collectors garage than being a rugged vehicle used by low budget militants.
I mean regardless of what colony it takes place on, the same logic about outdated weapons still applies. Not to mention that these are colonies… there wouldn’t just be old weapons stashes to find. Old firearms from the first colony ships? Sure, but those would be Halo style Misrah Armories rifles or something, there’s no way that a few hundred year old AK would get shipped out for colonial exploration. If you can afford a Phoenix Class colony ship, you can afford firearms manufactured within the last century.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s insanely expensive to make a show like this, it certainly isn’t “Cheap,” but it isn’t going to have the kind of budget that The Mandalorian does, and they should be adjusting the scope of the show accordingly. Stretching it with 500 year old props like AKs and Chevrolets seems like a pretty bad move for a universe with a vigilant fanbase.
I’m also certainly not basing my judgement of this TV show solely off of this. The general vibe of the trailer was cheesy Marvel action movie type stuff. The Phil Collins remix alone is enough to tell me the show will be bad. We’ll find out in a month!
The desert eagle in shadows of reach was stolen from a museum, so it’s a possibility. Vehicles in Halo Lore are weird in general. Like still using forklifts when there are civilian class cyclops mech suits.
But as you said, we’ll find out in a month. I’ll reserve my judgements until then.
