Weekly CU Featured Content Feedback

Disregard.

Could it be due to lack of submissions so they have to use the same people?

While that is possible I kind of doubt it. I can’t speak for anyone else, but in the time-span that they have been featuring screenshots I’ve submitted 50 pieces on 14 different occasions. When Ske7ch asked for Railgun and Rocket screenshots back in May he got 84 submissions.

Now that you point this out, this is rather alarming. While those who got featured have created some amazing works, I can’t help but watch from the sidelines with a subtle scowl. Personally speaking, I wouldn’t mind nabbing the Unicorn Fire skin (or the Unicorn Ice skin) though I doubt that I’ll really use it that much, if at all. I occasionally take captures in hopes of landing a spot in the Community Update at some point or another, but I find the process extremely frustrating, if not seemingly “impossible”.

I honestly wish that Twitter wasn’t the primary method of submitting content for the next Community Update as I doubt I’ll actually use the platform that much (I’ll stick with Facebook, thank you very much). Especially for those who didn’t have Twitter in the first place (like me), that’s a massive barrier in and of itself for anyone vying to get the weapon skin. And once they get their prize, the Twitter account may be considered expendable, likely to never be touched again. That’d be huge waste of a social media account, in addition to time and effort. I’d personally opt for a dedicated submission thread in the Community Creations section as a more accessible option for the masses. One can simply hope…

In short, you pulled out a damn good point here.

Stanley, you have got to be kidding

Couldn’t it be that those people happen to submit really high quality screen shots every time, and that those multiple times they’ve been selected it’s because they were actually the best submissions?

I mean, it seems to me that some users can just be better when it comes to this sort of thing. Just like how the same forgers tend to get their maps/game modes into matchmaking. I don’t think there is a conspiracy to only allow the same people to win every time. 343i doesn’t benefit from that.

That does seem to be the general consensus. Not trying to say the system is rigged or anything I totally understand that they often are the best. I’m just asking for more players to be given a chance. Instead of having a Community Update with 3 returning artists why not try to have 2 new artists and 2 original ones. The last 2 Community Updates are an excellent example of this. The one that came out 2 weeks ago only featured returning artists and the one that came out today featured 4/6 returning artists 3 of which were featured the week before.

I agree with you on this. I can’t stand Twitter and Reddit for various reasons, and I think it would be more professional for 343 to do things like this on their official Halo website. I know they primarily use Twitter and Reddit to communicate with fans because they’re more populated than Waypoint or something (and there’s nothing wrong with talking to the community on those platforms in addition to Waypoint), but I don’t think that excuse flies when it comes to accepting screenshot submissions for the community updates.

And I say this as someone who has no interest in submitting screenshots or getting the Fire or Ice skins. It just bothers me. Like Exenius says, Waypoint is easier to use and less cluttered and it would surely gain more traffic if 343 decided to pay more attention to it.

Originally, I wasn’t planning on submitting any more screenshots after the receiving the Fire skin.

However, I couldn’t resist seeing what else I could come up with for the subsequent CU’s, so I was in a bit of a screenshot frenzy for a few weeks.

It’s unlikely that I’ll be creating any more screenshots, as I’m satisfied with the shots I’ve made and I want to free up some of my time to do some other things.

Its a bit amusing, me and Exenius where in a party talking about this one shot in particular that looked pretty easy and generic. But yeah, its a bit frustrating trying to compete with all these good shots and stuff. Kinda gets me upset whenever I see the same people in the CU over and over again
