Decided to go for the weekly challenge this week. For the second time in a row. So I knuckled down and did the them as efficiently as I could;
The games I ended up playing;
Land Grab x2
LSS x2
Team Slayer x5
Rumble Pit x1
LSS x2
Land Grab x4
LSS x3
Team Slayer x1
LSS x3
No challenge swaps used.
I had to play the five games of Team Slayer - it was literally play five games. But I ticked off a couple of assist and weapon challenges at the same time.
The four land grab games in the middle was for 5000 score - and I think I was only 300 short after the first three games. Doh.
The two I was most worried about were double kill in Team Slayer (got three that game) and 10 headshots in LSS (got seven in one game). Unfortunately I had a 5 headshot challenge and a 10 headshot challenge and I couldnāt get them on the same page to do concurrently.
Every game was played in the spirit of winning AND having a good time. At no time did the way I play affect anyone else in the game.
The only bit Iām not proud of was camping like Hell in the last game of LSS (finish top 3). When I took on the last two players I actually didnāt try too hard. It was embarrassing enough playing dirty to get that far.
But anyway. The Challenge system is a LOT better than it was. I breezed through the week in 23 games. I probably could have done it in 20-21 with a bit more effort / luck. And I only had to play 10 of the event games (most of which were over inside five minutes).
The problem with weekly decks being random per player is that any given player on any given week will have a wildly different experience in grinding for their weekly Ultimate. Something like 50% of this problem would be alleviated if we could select which challenges are active at a time, but even if we could do that there would still be weeks when your challenges wouldnāt jive well together.
Iāve had weeks where I can knock every challenge including the Ultimate out in about five hours of total play time, which isnāt bad at all. But other weeks are more like 10-15 hrs, which is a lot less reasonable IMO. I decided to go for the Tawny Prarie coating this week and it ended up being a major grind for me.
If theyāre tweaking it so more players get better and more synergistic challenges more often, thatās a good thing. But I still think the system needs a much bigger overhaul.
I would say that this isnāt that bad in the slightest. I gave up on the battle pass and challenges just to play ranked, but I think Iām going to come back for challenges and unlock items again.
Some times you luck out and get challenges that isnāt so bad⦠Other times you wonāt get so lucky. I had to use like three or four swaps just because I loath tactical Slayer and kept getting challenges related to it.
With some luck, the challenges arenāt nearly as bad as they used to be at the outset of Season 1. Still, I find that the weekly rewards just arenāt worth my time and grind. It would be great if at least half of them could be completed in Bot matches. But of course we know that 343 likes artificially making things more difficult just to try to force them to buy challenge swaps.
The challenges alone whilst the population keeps decreasing itās going to really hurt the existing players still playing soon. They need to take off the pve/pvp requisite on the challenges since people actually play the bot playlist.
Had a couple of ffa challenges to complete and each game took a while to find sadly. Too bad I couldnāt have stacked them because the 10k score event ones were getting in the way. I just want to be able to progress all of my challenges at the same timeā¦
I didnāt do any weekly challenges early. They were brutal if the game you didnāt want came up in the game rotation. And the ones like get a ākilljoyā medal - were soul destroying.
But Iāve done the last two with minimal fuss.
I acknowledge there is a bit of luck involved - but the set up is exponentially better than it was at the start.
I would still prefer some sort of cumulative score system⦠with multipliers to reward wins, medals, not quitting, consecutive daily play, different game modes, and events, etc. Basically encouraging players to play properly (ie. to win), not quit, log in daily, try multiple game modes, and participate in events.
But in the mean time the current challenge system is on the right track.
Theyāre definitely in a better spot than they used to be.
Could still receive some better tweaks.
-Give reason to do the weekly even if you donāt want the main reward
-Earnable credits through weekly completion. 50-100 per week? If they arenāt going to be reasonable with the store prices, at least make stuff earnable through dedication to the game. 50 credits per week in a 3 month season would still make a player have to purchase credits to buy the season pass, but give them some options/savings for armors in the store. This would help the gameās economy and morale a lot.
-Make some power weapon specific challenges a little less demanding. 10 rocket kills⦠10 shock rifle kills⦠really? Going to try and have me be a weapon hog to my teammates, or RNG through fiesta? I think 1 kill per power weapon, 3-5 with an intermediate, and 10 with a common (Iām not sure on weapon tiers exact categories but hopefully you catch my drift)
-Challenge select. Still only 3 active for non BP, 4 for BP holders. Still gives the perm to the BP.
-Make other forms of progression aside from the BP⦠its been about 9 months. How is there not performance based exp.
They are so easy now and I never even tried to do them. Now I practically donāt even try to get the challenges and I found out Iāve completed 1/4 of them.
Which encourages me to focus on them but I do wish every player had the same but thenā¦
How would challenge swaps necessarily work.
Yeah the system is bonkers and needs to be removed since adjusting wonāt help one bit. I donāt have high hopes since MCC is almost as bad BUT MONEY lololol
I see why 343 use the challenge system to leverage events and other playlists.
But I also think that it shouldnāt really matter what you are playing.
Which is why I would prefer the system be based on cumulative scores full stop. They can use multipliers to encourage people to play events or multiple modes (eg. get 10% extra for your first game in any particular mode that day).
But if you want to just play BTB and get their a bit slower that should be fine. After all you are actually playing their game!
That still sounds like a lot of effort. Minimum 3-4 hours of work. I agree that the challenges are better than before, but it still needs work. I think they should get rid of āwin x gamemodeā and weapon specific challenges in particular.
