This is the result of prioritising monetisation over player experience. It won’t change as it would result in less money. The game was made to please shareholders and executives that don’t play video games.
Well MCC requires over a billion XP to be Max rank, so they could go with that, since there are really not that many people that put 5000 hours into the game
Would be cool if they added a Halo 3/Reach style military rank system with its own XP and when you level up it gives you battlepass XP as well.
I’d love to get my weekly’s done. Played for 90 minutes today, and 4 hours yesterday. ONE, uno, eins, uh, ONE game of CTF. I need to play 3.
I honestly think when you have a challenge for something it makes it harder to get. When I don’t need CTF, it’s every other match I play it.
Sigh.
Wake up 343.
The funny thing is that your post calls attention to your actual problem (IMO). You’ve sunk 90 hours into a game in two weeks, and you’re complaining about the challenge system not keeping you from being bored. 90 hours. I don’t judge at all regarding the playtime, but listen to what you’re saying. You’ve put more time into this game in two weeks than most people out into a full-time job in the same amount of time.
Don’t get me wrong, the challenge system needs tuning and the progression system needs tuning (especially going into season 2 where we should be going to shorter seasons). But it sounds more like you’re suffering from burnout than “this game doesn’t give me a reason to play”.
This is something that should be rectified at retail and the addition of playlists to the UI. If it goes into retail with just quickplay, BTB, and ranked then yeah, “wake up 343i”.
The incentive to play, is to play the game. If you need addons, or achievements, or challenges to play, it’s not the game you actually want to play. It’s just to be able to tell yourself “I did it”. That’s sad.
I can see how players are going to burn through things and this has me worried when the campaign drops. How much content will there actually be to play to keep my interest? Nowadays, content seems to be less engaging, and less of it, because companies want the players to focus on the battle pass/the shop.
So ranking/leveling seems to be the main thing offered when players are looking for more to do, and if they burn through it as you have it’s on you knowing this is just a Bata. This isn’t a looter shooter and players shouldn’t play the game like it is one either. The time you spent playing this game is telling me you are burning through things, and you will do this no matter what they do.
Having this “need” to get everything done as soon as possible. I just don’t see how that’s fun🤷♂️
Hopefully when the campaign drops this will change, but that remains to be seen.
You said it far more eloquently than I could have,
With the lock down some guy in Europe managed to do it in like 2 years or less.
And the ranking structure in Reach was ridiculous and I saw crap tons of people rolling around as Inheritors like within a year of release.
“No incentive to play”
How about having fun?
Every other issue aside, if they just made progression give you a decently sizable bit of xp per match, and made the challenges give more (and not be game mode restrictive) a loooot more people would play consistently. Only more so if they add credits per match to buy with (so long as it isn’t a terrible amount and the credit cost in the shop isn’t a lot.)
I grinded out the “ULTIMATE CHALLENGE” for the week, and it was pretty fun.
Afterwards though, even playing with friends, you do feel like you’re missing out because you don’t have much to shoot for like everyone else.
I’d love if the XP you obtained after the match scaled with how well you did in the match.
As much as I love racking up medals and getting to the top of the board, it feels lame to get the same 50xp reward over and over regardless of performance. Progress just slows to a crawl.
Overall, I wish there was something to shoot for after weeklies. Maybe some smaller challenges?
Just spitballing here.
So you’re telling us you picked up this title for an OCD grindfest?
Buddy, you need to relearn to have fun playing video games.
64 hours played and it’s fine for the time being, you’re just whining if you try to shut down criticism of your opinion by attempting to invalidate anyone who dares. If you have been gaming for 20 years surely you remember a time when grindy rewards were less widespread and harder to attain. At 28 I sure as hell do.
The problem isn’t that the game isn’t fun. The problem is that gamers expect to earn progress as we play.
Once the challenges are completed there is no way to earn progression other than the base 50xp per match. Furthermore if you’re playing ranked, you’re likely to make next weeks challenges more difficult.
Reach had the best progression system of the series IMO. It had challenges, and significant rewards just for playing which included rewards based on player performance.
I was happy when I finally completed them since then I could focus on ranked mode. This game is alot like Halo 5 in that there isn’t much to do but sweat out ranked play. If youre not into that you might have to wait until custom browser or campaign comes out
wdym, you can play for the 50XP, that sure is good enough

Have you considered playing the game for the sake of playing it or are there any gamers left in this generation?
Wait, do we need some sort of incentive to play other than the game is fun?
Jokes aside (kinda, I dislike ‘incentives’ being used in games to replace good gameplay), that’s the point of weeklies. It’s a marketing scheme that plays on your reward centers designed to make you KEEP coming back. You burn through the weeklies… then you come down off the ride and you want more; but that sweet battle-pass xp fix won’t be there til next Monday.
Keeps the concurrent player numbers high and investors happy.
but seriously though… The game is fun and that should alone be the incentive to play and not some shady reward-center duping mechanic.
Same all challenges done, no incentive to play
