Weeklies aren't rewarding (including cosmetics)

Just gonna come out and say it; the experience you have to go through to complete a weekly isn’t worth it. Usually requires doing challenges that aren’t fun in playlists that aren’t fun. And the game’s state compromises the core gameplay loop so much that it isn’t enough to carry the experience. And the core gameplay experience is weaker than past entries anyway. It’s not bad, just weaker. Season 2 won’t be enough to bring me back. They need to fix the issues and then maybe I’ll think about it.

Now allow me to just default dance my way out of here

I agree for the most part, although I personally hold the core gameplay experience for Infinite as much better than any other 343 Halo game to date. If it weren’t for the fundamental fun factor and the way the gameplay just feels right, I’d have abandoned hope for this game altogether months ago.

But the weekly challenge structure is a joke. I haven’t even bothered trying to clear my weekly challenges until this week when I decided to try for the black visor. It has always just looked like too much of a chore to wipe out the challenge slate- and going and working through it this week so far, while I’ve had some fun matches, I have to say that it has ultimately felt like an arduous grind. I remember 343i promoting that they didn’t want players to feel an obligation to grind when they were promoting this game’s challenge and battle pass system. They definitely missed the mark on that.

I’m excited for the progression system to be overhauled at some point along with the store and so many other elements of Infinite. It’s one of many things that are holding this game down at the moment.

My only issue with Infinite rn is that the fish taco weapon charm is missing from the game.
If they made that return, the game would be complete.

I think weekly rewards (and event passes) should be slapped onto the end of season passes.

Gets rid of FOMO and gives you something more to grind for if you missed the event

I think something like this could work. They could even require you to pay for the premium battle pass to access these missed rewards at the end. I don’t think many people would complain about that.

It would be available for free if you do it when it’s first available (weekly or event) but paying for the battle pass would give access to grind for anything you missed during that season.

Would prefer it to be free of course, but I wouldn’t complain if you had to pay for it

I figure it is free when it is first available so it would be okay if they included it in the purchase of the battle pass. This would make it a win-win for 343 and the player. It would add more incentive for people to buy the battle pass and then there would be no FOMO.

This, 100%
I stopped grinding the weekly challenges since january. They are not worth to spend my time playing gamemodes that i dont like.

I’m not sure this is what you are saying, but I had a thought spark with your comment. What if…

At the conclusion of a season, when a new battle pass is released the battle pass for the old season is updated to add new levels. One level for every week of the battle pass with the rewards being the weekly rewards for those weeks. That way, since the passes never expire, a player can choose to work on the old pass to get the missed rewards, or move on to the new pass.

Personally, I would move on to the new pass, but when that has been maxed I would jump back to the old pass to finish up the stuff I missed.

I was thinking they would be added right after the week/event is over, but that could work as well.

I just really hate the FOMO aspect of limited-time rewards.

Yeah, I also think they should be released in the store as well, along with my thoughts on a catalog of literally everything being available for purchase (except for very exclusive items) at all times. This gives players a better idea of the value of their time (even though it is entirely fictional, it still makes us feel better).

I don’t think releasing for free the following week makes a while lot of sense though because it takes about 10 min or less to advance a level at the start of a week. So people wouldn’t be motivated to unlock this weeks item, they could just wait a week and get it on accident.

Just don’t do them then. They’re only for cosmetics, which aren’t required to play the game.

Instead, focus on having fun in the modes you do enjoy play! =)

the weeklies personaly aren’t rewarding because the challenges are annoying, RNG based, and at time BS (like killjoys)

and look, i get why it’s a thing, and it could work for halo… but with the current challenges that are 9/10 times based on RNG elements, it is unfun. what with the desync making certain metals annoying to get (ninja), certain mode specific ones being annoying because 3 modes (ctf, oddball and territories) are locked behind a 1/4 chance QP. weapon related are also RNG based weather you get the map you want or the mode for said map you want, which is relied on RNG… you see the pattern? the issue is RNG… if only 343 would take a note from their own MCC que system or valve’s TF2 que system, a more player friendly experience, thusly offering more fun… then again, infinite’s trash UI probably can’t handle such a design

and even then, by the time the reward is given… it just feels more of ‘finaly, i can be done playing’ rather than… ‘woo, finaly! that was fun. might just play a bit more’. because news flash… NO ONE LIKES RNG, unless the given person can control it and seek it. like with fiesta, or a multple mode/map que system that the player can adjust to their own wim

I’ve probably said it a bunch of times in other forums, but the way MCC handled it was much better.

In that system, there were still items that were available for a week. But it was much easier to earn enough seasonal points to get all the items without having to worry about FOMO. And this is mainly for three reasons

  1. It was much easier to select the specific game mode you wanted to play. (This one’s probably a given)
  2. The total seasonal points per week was split evenly between PvP AND PvE. There are currently no options for PvE challenges in Infinite.
  3. You could choose whichever challenge you wanted to complete. There was NO set order.

I suspect that the real reason why challenges and weekly rewards is so incredibly frustrating is the fact that not only is there still a huge amount of RNG when it comes to finding the right game modes, that RNG becomes even worse given the fact the challenges are put in a set order.

So let’s say I have a set of four challenges currently active and I HAVE to complete one of them before being able to unlock the next challenge. If the four challenges are win one CTF, one Oddball, one Strongholds, etc., then that’s just tough cookies for me. In this scenario, I have to rely on two points of RNG. Getting the right mode in quickplay, and winning.

This might seem like a particularly diced scenario. But I imagine that this is a pretty big reason why weekly rewards are just not worth it, no matter what it is. What would I give if I could just select which challenge I wanted to complete first out of ALL the challenges, not just the first four.

Now that is a very good idea!

It’s just too sad and comes to no one’s surprise that they are removing the ability to progress in BP1, if you are a F2P person. Some decision making going on there

For me weekly reward it’s just an opportunity to play different game modes… I’ve done all the weekly challenges until now, some rewards were good, some were trash, but at the end I always enjoyed playing for that rewards… I hope in the future (as devs promised) rewards will have more value, but for me most important thing is that I enjoy playing, not only have nice aestethics…

Well. at least they got rid of the Killjoys (if I remember correctly from a recent update). Asking people to play different queues is not my most favorite aspect but I can see that as a incentive to try out other modes - so I can live with it.

My biggest gripe right now is the mode specific challenges that tie into QP. Weapons are a lot more doable given that Fiesta exists (unless you get the challenge for the Minigun, which can only be done in one BTB map…).

The big issue in the end is that to get any rewards from playing you need to go through the challenge system. BP progression → challenges. Weekly reward → challenges. Events → challenges. It would be quite a bit less annoying if you could get something without going through the challenge system - e.g. the commendation system from Guardians or the overall progression system with certain cosmetics tied to how far you progressed there.

I absolutely agree 100% with this. That makes so much sense, the free events should be for for everyone but what really separates the BP from everything else? This would be a welcomed change to the earnable items in the game. Would allow 343 to be in line with there non fomo and player first goals.

the modes tied to QP could be fixed easily if the modes were in seperate playlists akin to how MCC did the que system

but also, agreed. challenges should be an optional way to earn XP… i mean, in prior games there are per match XP, even in warzone it’s per match xp. challenges are simply meant to be additional xp. and the commendations would be amazing! halo 5 had TONS of commendations… though it was a shame a lot of them were tied to the lootbox system, but the rewards themselves felt so amazing to get! like completing the weapon commendations, felt rewarding and more of a reason to learn and use these weapons. they also reward xp as more of an insentive to do so. i really hope 343 brings commendations back, they are so fun to complete. of course along with an actual progression system and more ways to earn xp, such as per match xp based on SKILL
