I was optimistic about what 343 was doing with Halo 5 at first, AR Slayer during the first week was fun.
When BR Slayer was brought online during the second week, I stopped playing the beta.
And before all of you diehard Halo ‘pros’ go off on me like “oh ur just sum noob who sprays and prays with teh assault rifle get better”, no.
This wasn’t an issue of skill, it was an issue of enjoying the game. Having a cross-map camping contest, where you get punished for moving more than 5 feet away from cover, isn’t fun.
The first week was fun because with AR starts, because you had to fight to get a BR and it was safe to move across the maps because there was a lot of cover.
The second week was a bust because everyone already started with the best non-power weapon in the game.
And since the maps where too open for close combat, the only weapon people bothered picking up was the Sniper Rifle.
So I, and many others, left the beta during that week, and went to the forums to tell 343 that we don’t want BR starts, and that we liked the AR starts better.
So now what do they do? Week three of the beta, and they just put AR and BR starts together. This isn’t what we asked for, 343.
We’ve been talking about how starting with a BR makes all of the other weapons obsolete. When you start with a BR, theres not much reason to use an AR, a DMR, an SMG, or whatever standard weapons you may find lying around.
343 must have thought that this was a matter of preference of AR or BR, but it simply wasn’t.
In this game, when players start with a BR, they’ll just hang back and wait for someone to walk into their sights, no need to stick your neck out looking for weapons when the game has already given you the best you can get.
Of course, we’ve all heard this argument dozens of times by now.
Its too bad it turned out like this, I thought I could get back into it during the 3rd week, but it looks like I’m done the with beta altogether, since this is it’s last week.
Because spawning with an AR while you also start with a BR is like getting free ice cream in hell, whats the point?
