Weapons shouldn't be changed just because pros say so

To me, adjusting existing weapons to suit a single style of play is short sighted.

I think a more durable approach is to remove the mangler from HCS altogether or create a “competition” version, which offers the desired attributes.

As a matter of fact, offering “competition” models of all of the weapons allows them to be tuned independently while offering their own special cachet and additional cosmetic money making opportunities for 343.

Ranked weapons have a certain balance, social modes have another balance, custom games can decide which balance they want. Simple but nooooooooo, pros know everything

Good to know they are putting dev time into animations of assiasinations instead of fixing this dumpster fire of a game. Modern gaming.

nobody is using the mangler to 3 shot with it, they are simply 2 shotting and dropping it to finish with BR.

Very true. Nowadays, too many games loose their way by trying to please the esport crowd, and end up loosing what made them fun in the first place.

I don’t think this is correct. All these features are used just basic stuff that is expected in the game, regardless of competitive players.

Esport and competitive elements always had negative impact on video games in general, because it destroys the fun elements of the game to turn in into a shallow “sport”. 343 made Halo 5’s core gameplay for esport. Also too much focus on competitive PvP always comes at the expanse of PvE content.

The mangler is one of the hardest weapons to use efficiently.

Have you ever watched Halo 5s documentaries from the devs? Everything they made was for the pros, according to them. They even brought pros to the development team to help them out.

“Esports is bad unless its good, then its not Esports” lol

All of those things are championed by pro players, it is stupid to argue otherwise.

Where is your evidence? Few games on the market (especially shooters) do not have an Esports scene, I can name like a dozen games with strong Esports and huge communities… Very few games can survive and be completely casual. I would argue even games like Dark Souls with nothing but PvE still benefit greatly from a finely tuned and challenging core game design. Minecraft is probably your best argument I could see, aside from that Fortnite, Apex, Warzone are all absolutely massive and they also have huge competitive scene.

I’ve heard this argument, and although it is certainly reasonable to assume this, the reality is that Halo has always been pretty mediocre for PvE, yes we’ve had Campaigns and (occassionally) a slapped together Firefight mode, but its laughable to blame Esports for that. Gears of War has had good PvE since like Gears of War 2 for example, Esports has had virtually no impact.

Yes.
Unless your aim is good.
Then it’s easy.

Yeah I’ll agree to this, The pros dictating how we enjoy a game should not be allowed for the developers to take input.

A game first and foremost needs to be: FUN.
Bottom line. If you are a pro, you’re already being paid to game, so stop complaining. Some of us have to work for a living and we want enjoy our games.

Let the mechanics be determined by what’s fun and enjoyable, not what qualifies as a “balanced weapon” because that’s nonsense. There are classifications for each weapon, so the power is purely determined by the classification.

Professional gamers have a place as entertainment, but the developers need to learn that gameplay being fun is what keeps the majority continuing to play. That being said, I have been enjoying the game thoroughly.

Only complaint, bring back the guns from previous Halo games like the grenade launcher, napalm grenades, and older shotguns or laser cannon.

I don’t care how powerful they are, they’re fun. That’s what we need.

343i should wait to make any huge changes to weapon balance till forge is out. at the very least they can give players full customization of weapons. Than if they want to make changes to the HCS meta they can.

Haha you are definitely funny because you know by the way you are talking, it’s more like you’ve provided the evidence they need to prove that they are catering to pros.

Talking about DPS, Bloom, and really high end gamer (almost paid) lingo, it’s definitely got some affect on the gameplay and the community since those are your talking points and defense position.

I don’t know if you’re a pro, but there clearly is some rationality behind their argument if you’re using this kind of speech to say “pros aren’t affecting gameplay.” Saying it’s a “bizarro reality” isn’t really that bizarre since these are the talking points you’re making and corporate offices like Microsoft have catered to louder or more noticed professional gamers instead of the majority population of their consumer base.

And with that being said, where I agree with you: paying attention to detail function of each weapon is also highly important for game devs, however, the lack of previous equipment does show they were trying to balance the mechanics to cater to the professional crowd.

And that’s not necessarily a bad thing because there is a professional team market that is out there, but it also limits the gameplay or what you can do in the game. Nothing wrong with the claim to certain extent

There is nothing wrong with saying it caters to professional gamers because Microsoft does have a stake in the professional gaming industry too, but it should not affect the fun behind the gameplay which it has for these gamers.

Again, all of that is okay because again whether it’s true or not, it’s not necessarily a bad thing either. I think we all should just keep gaming and have fun.
Who knows what they’ll add to the game later on for all of us? Maybe they’ll step outside the comfort zone of “balanced” and do ridiculous mechanics for the rest of us.

I’m not letting it ruin my gaming experience, neither should you. I like your assessment of mechanics btw. Very enlightening.
