Weapons shouldn't be changed just because pros say so

Love this.

I made a poll that goes beyond “Nerf it” and “Don’t nerf it”. Feel free to check it out.

[Poll: How should the Mangler be nerfed?]

^ That’s the title

They just want it on the spawn where you can only have one per spawn point on the map and less ammo. Sheesh.

It is fair. Literally everyone can do it. Just bind the button or hold y with anticipation.

Now you have me curious.

Yeah… Reach is an awful Halo title competitively. Now it eventually got decent by the time v7 came out (wanna say it was a year maybe two after release?) then was dropped when Halo 4 came out 2 years later in 2012 (which was even worse competitively)

For example… What do you think the biggest issue with Infinite is right now in terms of competitive play? Its lack of Forge and bad custom games settings (that stupid player switch thing in particular can go screw itself) Mangler is a problem but one could argue that Bazaar itself is a mess (where Mangler is abused most)

how can we be surprised with the poor methods of communication

Do you understand that it’s the mangler’s range and damage that provides the advantage?

I flew as Firaxa 1 in Star Wars: Squadrons. We were for a time, a top 40-US-players in the first tournament, Operation Aces Open. in the larger global tournament, we didn’t quite make that top-8-teams cut, sadly. But we were a very well respected team that was outwardly LGBT+/PoC inclusive and were advocates for minorities in professional gaming spaces.

About the only people who have anything bad to say about Firaxa are people we got kicked for bigotry. Everybody else liked us quite a bit. On top of that we were just really good players. But we were not the best by a pretty firm shot.

I agree. But their input is valid most of the time, since they try far harder to learn the game mechanics than the average person. If they say the mangler is potentially game breaking, for instance, they probably have a reason to say that.

For my part, it IS a little overpowered in ranked. It would be easy to fix the problem without nerfing the gun though.

They nerfed the sword and rockets by reducing the ammo for each every spawn. This didn’t change how the guns work in any way, and they’re still major weapons that influence the game every match they’re in. So maybe something as simple as that is a good fix.

A mangler with one extra magazine, so 16 shots total, is plenty to make important plays with. Then you increase the respawn timer So it’s not a fresh one every 30 seconds, and make sure BOTH sides get one or that it’s more centrally located on maps, and boom you have a balanced Mangler in ranked.

It should also be noted that while the AR is broken as a social starting weapon, as a power/pickup weapon in ranked? It’s actually great because it still does reward skill, good shot placement, and only one person can have it. I make a habit of picking it up on Streets because it is a genuinely good tool to have.

But absolutely needs adjustment or a new variant for Social/Starts. It is simply too good for anything but pickup weapon status, as the BR is honestly genuinely not as good as it in 4v4.

EDIT: Same can be said for the Sidekick, but that is a weapon that is much, much harder to use.

That’s actually the beauty of BR only starts imo. Everything you pick up has value at that point. I don’t think BR/AR or BR/Sidekick starts would feel right in this game. Grabbing an AR or Sidekick in ranked gives you a utility of value in a number of potential situations. Hell, I’ve even used the disruptor some in a pinch to varying effect. You can’t really use most of the sandbox like that in AR starts.

some people like to call it the ‘skillgap’

That game had competitive play? Never heard of it. The game I’m familiar with but obviously not that it had tournaments or anything.

There are quite a few games that looking back I wished I had competed in (I might still with Infinite) but a lot of the games that I happen to love typically don’t have anywhere near Halo’s prize pools and general level of competition. Gears 5 I probably could’ve been though but I kind of wasn’t that enthused by its PvP mode (now if they had a really badass version of Overrun mode then I’d go nuts)

This doesn’t really track.

The Mangler can just be removed or replaced with something else in Ranked if it doesn’t work in the sandbox.

It’s mid-high diamonds whining about every little thing keeping them out of Onyx that are whining the most about the Mangler, not the pros.

You really can’t - it’s an extremely oppressive tool. It is genuinely too good to be anything but a pickup at this point. I saw a leak that showed the MA5D model out there as a kit/swap of some kind but I haven’t seen anything about that since.

I’d very much like if we had two ARs. The one we have now, and a more balanced one for starts. My proposal is always:

Lower RoF
Higher damage.
No headshot bonus.
Lower magazine.
Less long range accuracy.

Makes it more rewarding to land hits that do consistent damage no matter where they hit, providing a purely flat TTK that is consistent in a way few guns in the game are. But also, more punishing to miss.

Alternatively, you could give it the current one’s long range accuracy and no headshot, but have the current one have less accuracy but still allow that really, really satisfying headshot bonus damage kill that does indeed reward good shot placement/skill.

One’s a generalist that’s balanced, one’s a specialist that’s allowed to be busted.

Organized Competitive, at that. There wasn’t REALLY a true ranked matchmaking system, but we organized tournaments and such with cash prizes and all ourselves. EA/Disney footed the bill on a few things and we knew the developers well. It was a remarkable game but its heyday is very long gone.

No kidding, lol. It’s a great gun! It’s just horrible as a starting weapon.

You’re usually on the money, but the sponsored teams are in agreement on this and they’re definitely not Diamonds.

In high skill games people make it a point to strategically control the Mangler in their opening strats. Seeing them play and hearing them talk, it’s often more valuable to control the mangler than it is the true power weapons and power ups. That’s where the issue is coming from I think. 343 didn’t initially anticipate how powerful it really is. It’s a power tier weapon that is treated like a basic sidearm or secondary. I guarantee if they just tweak its spawn rate and position on some maps people will see the light.

I miss when Frost’s shotgun was an absolute monster :frowning:

Agreed, 100%. It’s strictly superior to the BR in raw damage - even if it has a relative TTK, that’s seriously powerful. Designing a gun to fill the CE Magnum niche, may very well be the worst thing to do carelessly.

Because many people on Youtube echoed this.

As a competitor myself. I still agree. I think especially the state the game is in NOW it needs to have party modes and more casual gamers put first for until season 2 or 3. Weapons should never be nerfed unless they are absolutely busted. Simply Buff the weaker guns

I have no issue with the Mangler, it’s not easy to get a perfect 3 shot and when it comes to the 1 shot melee kill, it’s similar to how the Mauler played.
