Weapon's despawn too fast.

I don’t know if I am the only one who has noticed this but weapons that are dropped on the battlefield tend to disappear really fast.

From a recent match: I picked up the sniper on Ragnarok, got to a good spot and snagged nice sniper kill, then I was flanked by one of the opposing team and got killed. I re-spawned in the general vicinity of where I died and went back to where I died. I killed the person that just killed me and searched the ground for that sniper I just had. I thought that the other player picked it up but it was nowhere to be found. The weapon was just gone.

This happens all the time. Can this be fixed? Or does this happen for a particular reason? Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah we’ve been complaining about this since the game came out. It is a pretty annoying problem. I’d much rather get frustrated by a pile of rifles than having a power weapon disappear for no reason.

blame ordnance drops.

> blame ordnance drops.

You are probably right.

It’s the same thing with Resupply. The point of it is to tone down grenade spamming.

Same point here, to tone down Power Weapon spamming. Which people still do anyway… ESP in the Majestic Playlists.

Don’t evveeeen get me started on that debauchery…

> blame ordnance drops.

Nope. This happens in Campaign and Spartan Ops too.

You don’t even have to be killed to lose a weapon. Many times I drop one weapon to pick up another one, use the second weapon, then walk say 10 feet back to get my original and it’s gone.

It;s almost like “out of sight, out of mind”. If you keep the weapon in view and are close by, it usually stays put.

With Halo Reach, I could go usually go back half way across the map and pick up weapons I dropped originally.

And I would dearly love to see this fixed too.

I did not design the game so I can not say with absolute certainty but never the less, this is the most logical/rational explanation.

The rate at which weapons despawn is linked directly to halo 4’s ‘better graphics’

To put it simply…

Anything which makes a 3D image more detailed or realistic (be it more polygons, dynamic shadowing, ray-tracing, reflective surfaces, bump maps, anti-aliasing etc) takes more time and more resources to render.

The extra time this ‘detail’ takes to render is multiplied by how many objects need to be rendered and there is a limit to how much can be rendered in real-time without affecting the frame rate.

Basically, if there is too much stuff on the map then real-time rendering will suffer and the video will ‘lag’. Every time some one spawns they introduce new objects into the scene and if the limit has already been reached then existing items must be removed. Obviously you can’t remove the trees and buildings etc from the map so this is why the weapons disappear.

edit: It’s doubtful that the code would simple remove the oldest weapon on the map. More than likely, other elements would be taken into account when selecting which weapon should be removed next. Such as when it was dropped, if a player is within a certain proximity of it or if a player is looking directly at it etc

Yes yes totally agree, they de-spawn way too quickly

Yes I have noticed and I hate having to run as fast as I can to my body, only to see my weapon disappear while I’m on my way. It’s pretty crazy.

Here’s the low-down on what happens:
Walk over power weapon.
Refuse to pick it up.
Change your mind.
Weapon has disappeared.
“WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?”

The part I hate is when I’m playing campaign or spartan ops and I run out of ammo while all of the guns of the enemies I just killed disappear. Then I get to die while trying to melee everyone.

Yeah, really wish there was a way to make it so weapons don’t disappear so fast…

Yeah, it’s madness.

Sometimes lay down a weapon for another and fight from that position, intending to use that weapon, the weapon I have stowed away, and the weapon on the ground as they are needed, but the weapons always disappear!

Seriously, they should make it so weapons take forever to disappear and the insanely fast despawns apply to corpses instead.

> blame killstreaks.

fixed*

I wouldn’t mind so much if 343 actually gave us a way to make static weapon spawns. But they didn’t. So…

The weapons are gone way too fast in any mode, and without a way to increase the timer there’s no way to re balance maps aside from ordnance drops, so basically they choose this to make their brand new thing required.

Its to cut down on the possibility of frame rate lag. The graphics of halo 4 push the console to the limits. To compensate for this weapons bodies and blown up vehicles de spawn much faster.

This. This is actually good advice to keep in mind when complaining about certain H4 issues. Gotta remember, this game as shipped pretty closely squeezes every last drop of performance out of the 360. You won’t find many more games that push the envelope any farther.

I would like to see dropped weapons last a little longer, but it’s hardly annoying. I’d like to see vehicle wreckage last longer, too, but oh well.

Saying weapons despawning in 13 seconds is to keep performance high is a cop-out and a lie.
Why is it that dead bodies stay on the map longer than weapons, and bullet/burn marks stay on the map for literally the entire time. Even if weapons on the map would cause noticeable framerate drops, the game replaces the weapon models with low-def, poorly-textured versions only a few meters away.
There is no way having weapons stay on the map for a minute will cause serious problems.

The real reason weapons despawn so quickly is to push Infinity settings; with the amount of power weapons that randomly drop from both world ordinance and personal ordinance, we need weapons to despawn quickly just so we don’t have stupid amounts of power weapons on the map at once. It’s just another way for 343 to force their Infinity gametypes on us even more.
