Weapon Zooms

I haven’t seen anyone discussing this before, so I’ll show my opinion on it.

I put this as a Halo 4 category since it’s still in development.

To me, Halo has a simple feel to it’s “weapon zooms”.

I’ve seen a lot of games using the CoD Zoom style. I know everyone’s preferences are different, but this doesn’t need to be Halo’s zoom style. Yes the CoD style is realistic, but Halo isn’t suppose to be “realistic” now is it?

Leave me thoughts and opinions.

I am with you on this 100%. I definitely do not want to see ACOG sights or iron sighting in Halo. The novels give a great explanation for the zoom by discussing how the weapon scope links with the helmet’s HUD. Call me crazy, but I do not want the CoD level of realism when I aim my weapon in Halo.

Saber Khai

I don’t want to see it either, lets just hope 343 takes this into consideration and not giving into the “realism”.

I really doubt that 343i would change the zoom to iron sights. Seeing as majority of the community don’t want that to happen and how the zoom in Halo already has a good explanation.

You have to think of it like this… Spartans have HUD’s and they can be linked with the weapon? so you dont even need to use the weapons sights, the scopes are more for distance viewing, Their HUD’s show them where their weapons are pointing, so all they have to do is look through their visor and fire.

See what im saying?

Iron sights are unnecessary in an FPS they just slow down gameplay, only give the illusion that your gun is more accurate, and it takes away all the jumping and strafing that actually requires skill. They’re a nice thought but unless you want a game full of campers, due to the slowed down gameplay of iron sights and subsequently removing the jumping and strafing, it just doesn’t work out.

EXACTLY… everyone needs to read this ^

They’re fine in CoD, sure, but I’d rather the core aspects of Halo stay Halo :stuck_out_tongue:

Just to clarify, “Halo-style zooms” are scopes while “COD-style zooms” are ironsights or ADS (aim down sights).

Honestly, I really hope we get both. That is to say, I hope that longer-range weapons like the DMR and Sniper keep scopes, but that other weapons – Needler, SMG, AR, etc. – get ADS.

After Bungie messed up with the core mechanics in Reach, I doubt 343i will want to repeat the same mistake.

Keep the Halo weapon sights the same as they’ve always been.

The original Halo zoom is just unique and it shouldn’t be changed. It’s one of the most important things in Halo.

If your talking iron sights it doesn’t make much sense because there really isn’t any enhanced scope to them.
If your talking about additions then that would also be a bad move for Halo is all about bringing all players to an even ground from the beginning of the match, it’s all about knowledge and “skill”.
If your talking about that to aim properly you have to hold a button to bring up your scope this also not good. It works in CoD because of fast kill times. Halo has slower kill times therefor fast aiming takes a backseat to strategic planning.

Here’s the thing about Halo’s weapon zooms, you’re not some guy in the modern day military running around with glasses that don’t show you a HUD, and don’t have Halo’s “Smart Zoom” scopes, where the user can be wearing a spartan helmet, and get a scoped view of a target, with out even having to look into the scope. I would not like to see a CoD style of zooming in Halo, it’s just not Halo.

Definitely do not want ADS gameplay. Smart linked scopes are already explained canonically and allow for Halo’s core battles to take place (jumping, strafing, crouching whilse in a battle) and to bring in ADS would cripple that significantly.

It has no place in the game and would turn more people away than Reach did IMO.

Maybe they should make a CoD styled Halo game. Something like ODST, when you do zoom in like cod and you die quick. That would make the casuals happy. Make the graphics like it as well. I would like to see this game but not as a main halo game or a major part in the story.

I just want static reticles and build in scopes in the spartan helmet.

Halo is special for a reason.

I hope that 343i thinks like you.

Can you strafe, crouch jump or ninja in CoD?

No, and you never will.

Can you ADS in Halo?

No, and hopefully, you never will.

Halo is special, because it’s different from “realistic” war games.

if ADS is ever in Halo then I may stop playing the games.

I really hope no weapon gets ADS. It makes zero sense to have them in Halo. If you have a 100% accurate reticule built into your helmet that shows you exactly where you are aiming at all times, why would you need to aim down sights of weapons that mainly have no sights to aim down other than the aspect of trying to look cool?
