Weapon Types and Damage Types

Not sure if i’m the only one who noticed this, but the medals in Halo Infinite when you get 5 kills with a specific weapon type caught my attention. Particularly when I read the medal for getting 5 kills with the needler, which is classified as an SMG type weapon in the game. This made me recall something that 343 talked about in an Inside Infinite post regarding damage types and how they work differently and have different quirks, and how there will be multiple damage types within a weapon type. For example, the Heatwave and the Bulldog are both classified as shotgun-types, but do different kinds of damage.

This made me realize we could see things like the plasma rifle be included in the same box as the AR, or a UNSC SMG be included in the same box as Needler as a map spawn. Close range automatic kinetic weapon, or perhaps the Suppressor will return with new quirks or in an evolved state to occupy the hardlight damage type slot for SMG type weapons. There’s also room for more shotgun types, like a UNSC or Banished shotgun that deals fire D.O.T, or a UNSC sword/knife that deals bleeding Damage Over Time.

There’s alot of possibilities with this. Just wanted to make everyone aware

This has been done before. Reach’s commendations split weapons up into Pistols, Automatics, Precision, CQC, Explosive, and Vehicle. With Pistols being the Magnum, Plasma Pistol, and Needler. Precision being the DMR, NR, Sniper, and Focus Rifle. Automatics being the AR, Repeater, Plasma Rifle, and Spiker. CQC being the Shotgun, Hammer, and Sword. And explosives being the Grenade Launcher, Rockets, Spartan Laser, Concussion Rifle, Fuel Rod, and Plasma Launcher.

Vehicles are self-explanatory but they did count turrets, like the Machinegun, Shade, and Plasma Cannon.
