So normally the SMG was almost superior to the AR prior to the update but is it overall the other way around now? All I can see the SMG has over the assault rifle now is it has a bigger reticle.
I think the SMG is still better for CQC, but overall I would pick the AR.

They killed the smg. Even before the AR could beat it at range, but the smg had power to compensate. Now it’s just a bad gun to use. There’s almost no situation where picking one up is worthwhile unless you’re including the variants such as with kinetic bolts, which actually kills in less shots.

It kinda worked for me, I used the SMG and AR together a lot throughout Halo 5 and it works a lot better after the update, but I just noticed when ever I kill off AFK players the SMG feels like it takes a while even while aiming for the head now.
It’s a close range bullet hose now like it should’ve always been while before the update you could kill people from midrange engagements. I find the biggest issue is figuring out when it would be best to pick it up.
