So just asking what you guys thing out of all the starting weapons, which takes the most skill. Please don’t just choose the weapon you use, it’s how much skill it takes to use not how “Owsum” or how much it “reks”. Please post your reasons below so I can laugh. Thx.
The Covie Carbine because every shot counts.
Seeing as my favorite weapon is the Light Rifle, I have to say that it takes the most skill by far, it’s is extremely technical compared to the other precision weapons.
LR and Carbine.
DMR and BR have high amounts of aim assist, any idiot can get a kill with it.
(apparently r--Yoink!- comes out as limited rofl)
Light Rifle because of the way it fires. Its beam is slower than a bullet which makes you have to lead your target when firing at something moving.
Probably the Carbine
I am really, really surprised/proud of the halo community so far, it’s NOT a bunch of idiots saying “buhuhu, wel ubveusly AR and dmr r su Hurd to yoose cuz yah” I mean, so far it isn’t terrible, maybe we’re not going down the road of mindless stupidity names cod? Heheh
P. S. the 1 kid who said AR is probably the same one who constantly asked bungie for recon back in H3, and again in Reach, and is still asking bungie for it in H4.
I think I might have seen the covie and prom ARs twice each in mm
Carbine. It’s fun to use but IMO it’s also hard to use. Light Rifle is also pretty rewarding if you’re good with it.
Storm Rifle, you need to be Chuck Norris to get a decent amount of kills with it going up against all of the rifles.

Yeah, if your the idiot running midfield on Ragnarok going to “Snype sum nuwbs” but yeah, even in its niche, it doesn’t always win.

Mastur Cheef?
Well, just for the fun of it I have also just selected the AR.
You know, it’s hard to say which weapon requires the most skill, cause this game depends a lot on the counter weapons, the levels, etc. Just to say the AR is “bwahaha” compared to f.e. the DMR is not true. If you are really good you can maybe kill someone with 3 DMR hits… surely with 4 hits… but for the AR it’s way harder:
First (excluding any other team dmg) you only have one mag per opponent! Meaning that while you could (more or less) easily kill at least 3 opponents with f.e. the DMR without reloading, you have to take reloads into consideration with the AR all the time!
Secondly, if you cannot hold your aim at the opponent all the time your are emptying your mag, the opponent will certainly survive and you have problem, that mostly (at closer range) can only be solved by punching him, which in turn gives you an even bigger frame of vulnerability because you can’t reload for another couple of seconds!
Also with the AR you really have to be in some serious battle which means, while you are constantly aiming and shooting, you gotta jump and/or move around like hell and try to surprise and at the same time predict your opponent, more than with most other weapons. One miscalculation or just bad luck and you are dead.
Furthermore, is it not skill when you have the AR and you are up against the overpowered BR or the DMR at midrange, but you manage to avoid your opponents line of fire and close in on him, without dying to give him hell at short range?
The last I can think of, is timing… when do you start firing with the AR? This also requires a lot of skill, cause just to start emptying your mag when you see an enemy running away at a farther distance is not enough. The timing needs to be perfect, not to close not to far away… or else you’ll got serious ammo problems. With the DMR, timing is also an issue, but it’s a whole other story regarding the distcane…
This is only an example, just because you got killed a lot by ARs doesn’t mean it’s an easy weapon. In fact I think people that realize the AR is one of the best choices for levels like Adrift for example, have to be very skilled naturally. Also maybe you should remember Halo (1)… if you haven’t played with the pistol all the time, you should be able to recall all the exciting battles with the ARs. - In my opinion… the real and true feeling of Halo! This is not counter strike, or CoD where you are just head shooting and its over. Halo is about moving and anticipation much more than aiming, don’t you agree?
Hopefully you understand that it is very hard to say you need more skill with one weapon than another… what about the shotgun… yeah sure its such an easy weapon if you camp and/or the opponent is at close range, etc. What about the rocket launcher, if you are not “skilled” you might only get one kill out of four rockets. How much skill does it take to sit in the back of a map (probably even invisible) and shoot with the sniper, or with the DMR for that matter? How much skill does it take to fire the BR at midrange? - Three fast triplets just in the chest are enough to get down the shield and finish the opponent with the last shot! Compared to the DMR with the BR you don’t even have to hit the opponent in the head… but still… use these weapons at close range, maybe against the AR… you will need a lot of skill!
In conclusion I would just suggest that the true skill depends on the player and how one can handle all sorts of situations…
Still, a very interesting topic and a good poll! I am eager to see how the votes progress! Very nice idea!
PS: I don’t really can talk a lot about the alien weapons… cause I haven’t used them very much so far. Maybe there is one that is really tricky among them… the poll at least suggests the Carbine… interesting…

Holy… That’s a lot to read, but I read it. Just 2 things I think. This is only starting weapons, and I would most certainly hope the shotgun isn’t one. 2nd the cases your bringing up are usually only real vent when the other guys is perfect. For example, you CAN just start emptying a clip on a guy from short range and win so long as you keep the reticle on him(not too hard) and you should need to reload after a kill, otherwise, the AR might be able to get kills at a range that was never meant to be, like an enemy who’s shields have popped from a previous battle running away on an open map from a far distance, if an AR user has 80 shots in a clip and only hits a messily 10% burst firing, it’s enough to kil that guy at 60m, something that wasnt meant to be. So while yes there are skills that go into each weapon, most that go into the AR are simply generic skills in shooters that apply to most every gun. I appreciate the detailed input.
P.S. I think you’ll find the carbine requires a good amount of percision considering the amount of shots required.
I do have to say the Carbine. It takes the most shots out of any precision rifle in the game to kill (and a miss can be devastating) so during that time you are vulnerable, as a DMR or BR could just run in and kill you before you can pop their shields. You need the most skill with the carbine to jump and dodge their shots and grenades while being pinpoint accurate with your own. Not to mention every time you shoot, scoped or unscoped, you are practically advertising your position away with great big green lines. The Light rifle only has this problem when scoped. It has to go with the carbine, hands down.
